Carnival just canceled another five cruises—here's what vacationers need to know

Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled another five sailings from its upcoming cruise schedule, citing changes to its dry dock maintenance calendar. The cancellations affect sailings on the Carnival Breeze departing January 11, March 5, March 13, March 18 and March 22, 2027, all of which were set to sail from Galveston, Texas, to the Western Caribbean. The cancellations follow a recent last-minute scrapping of a 2026 Carnival Liberty voyage due to a shipyard strike in Cadiz, Spain. Dry dock periods are the cruise industry's equivalent of a pit stop—it's the time when ships get spruced up, inspected and sometimes overhauled. Carnival says the Breeze is due for a turn in the shipyard, and with a packed maintenance schedule across the fleet, some voyages had to give. Affected passengers and their travel agents were notified weeks ago. Carnival is stepping up, however, by helping passengers book a comparable sailing at the same rate, offering onboard credit for rebooked trips or a full refund for those who choose to call the whole thing off. While cancellations aren't everyday events, they're not entirely unheard of. Maintenance needs, redeployments and charters can all derail cruise calendars. In fact, Carnival is not the only cruise line to drop sudden cancellations. MSC Cruises recently cancelled five months of sailings on the MSC Meraviglia, and Norwegian Cruise Line cut over four months of sailings on two ships this summer. If you had your sights set on a 2027 getaway on the Carnival Breeze, you'll need to pick different dates, or a different ship. On the plus side, the extra time in dry dock should mean your next round of on-board margaritas could come with fresher paint, shinier decks and maybe even a few new perks.

Carnival Cruise Line cancels five more cruises

Carnival Cruise Line cancels five more cruises originally appeared on TravelHost. Carnival Cruise Line is adding to its growing list of cruise cancellations caused by changes to its schedule for routine dry dock maintenance and refurbishment that cruise ships undergo every few years. Earlier this year, the cruise line cancelled multiple spring 2026 cruises due to revised dry dock plans, and now more cruises are being impacted by additional schedule adjustments. These latest changes come shortly after the cruise line was forced to cancel one Carnival Liberty cruise at the last minute due to a shipyard workers' strike in Cadiz, Spain that delayed the completion of the ship's maintenance work. Now, as the newly refreshed Carnival Liberty sets sail again, Carnival has announced the cancellation of five cruises planned for early 2027 on another one of its ships. Carnival Cruise Line cancels five cruises on Carnival Breeze Another change to the schedule for Carnival cruise ship dry docks has now resulted in five cancelled cruises on Carnival Breeze, which sails Western Caribbean cruises year-round from Galveston, Texas. The five Carnival Breeze cruises cancelled as a result of the schedule change are sailings that were scheduled to depart on Jan. 11, 2027, March 5, 2027, March 13, 2027, March 18, 2027, and March 22, 2027. 'Due to a short-term change in itinerary and dry dock plans (scheduled maintenance) for Carnival Breeze for the specific timeframe referenced above, we are sorry to inform you that the above voyages, including yours, have been cancelled,' the cruise line explained in an email to impacted cruise line is offering to help passengers find and book alternative cruise options, and protecting their cruise rates on comparable sailings in similar accommodations. Impacted passengers who book an alternative voyage will receive an onboard credit, which varies based on the length of the voyage. Passengers who opt not to reschedule will receive full refunds of their cruise fares and any pre-purchased items. Carnival passengers say the cruise line keeps letting them down Although the cruise line gave plenty of notice about these cancellations, passengers are naturally disappointed to have to revise their travel plans. Some even say the cancellations are another misstep in a series of ways the cruise line is letting down its passengers lately. In June, the cruise line announced a new Carnival Rewards loyalty program that will link status to spending when it replaces the VIFP Club program in June 2026. Many passengers have called the new program a 'money grab' that prioritizes profits over passenger have also recently spoken out against the cruise line for charging high prices for add-ons and limiting what's included at its new exclusive cruise destination in The Bahamas, Celebration Key. Many have used Royal Caribbean's CocoCay as an example of a cruise line private destination that gets it right. Although Royal Caribbean also charges steep prices for add-ons, passengers can enjoy unlimited food and use their cruise beverage packages on the island. At Celebration Key, Carnival passengers are limited to one complimentary meal and can't use their beverage packages. 'If Carnival is trying to up their game and compete with Royal, have any of the 'beards' been to CocoCay? Almost everything is included, including drinks since they have already been paid for if someone has the [beverage] package,' Carol Lee commented on one of Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald's Facebook posts about the included menu options at Celebration Key.
