‘It was a shambles', rage angry fans after they were left queuing for Glasgow gig for TWO hours
FAN FURY 'It was a shambles', rage angry fans after they were left queuing for Glasgow gig for TWO hours Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FURIOUS concertgoers who were left queuing for hours before a gig at Glasgow's Hydro last night have blasted venue bosses - claiming they 'couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery'. Thousands of dance music fans flocked to the OVO arena on Sunday evening for the Bank Holiday Clubland Live show which was billed as 'The Biggest Night of Your Life'. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 1 Thousands of dance music fans flocked to the Hydro last night for the Clubland Live show Credit: OVO Hydro The star-studded lineup featured huge names like DJ Basshunter and noughties dance icon Cascada. And the "three-hour action-packed show" promised ticketholders a chance to "relive the classic tunes in a party atmosphere". But hundreds of revellers were left sorely disappointed after having to queue up for two hours and missing some of the gig. Doors opened at 6.30pm, with the event scheduled to start at 7 pm and end at 10.30pm. But scores of raging fans claimed they did not enter the venue until several hours after it began. Dozens of peeved-off concertgoers took to social media to share their frustration at the 'terrible' management of the event. One angry attendee wrote: "Well went to clubland at the Hydro in Glasgow. Organised f****** chaos, couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery. Doors opened at 6.30pm, concerts starts at 7pm, and we are still outside at 7.55pm. F*** that. Home time. We were told we'd be another hour to get in." Another said: "It was terrible, we arrived at 6.20pm and never got in till 8.20pm. Missed half the show. People were being sick in the queue and peeing in cups." A third added: "It was ridiculous! Nearly two hours we waited and got in just after 8 and that was only because we went round to the other side to queue. No organisation of queues and overall it was a shambles." Meanwhile, other ravers told how they had a 'great time' at the show. Noughties dance act hasn't aged a day as she teams up with huge producer for comeback track One wrote: "I nearly cried when I saw the queue but we didn't wait in it long. Quite quick." Scots DJ George Bowie opened last night's show with his iconic GBX anthems. The Clyde 1 radio host, 54, wrote on Facebook: "The Clubland Events team absolutely smashed OVO Hydro last night, even Billy Gillies (Music) made a surprise appearance. What a night, getting to open the show with a GBX set and then perform the Whiskey Roll remix with Cammy Barnes & Outforce to 10,000 ravers was a moment to treasure forever." An SEC spokesperson said: 'The safety and security of our guests is our number one priority and we always do our best to ensure a quick entry process for our guests. "There were some challenges at the Clubland event with a small number of people, which meant it took our security team a little longer than usual to carry out all the necessary checks. "We apologise to anyone who was affected.'

NYT Connections Today Hints Clues Help Answers Monday May 5 694
Looking for Sunday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here: Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the start of a new week! Hope you had a great weekend. I'm happy to be back with you. Did you miss me? It's Monday, and you know what that means around these parts: we kick things off with an upbeat song that will hopefully get you dancing, get those endorphins flowing and hopefully put you in a better mood. As tempted as I am to drop in an Electric Callboy song here (I've never fallen in love with a band this quickly to this degree), I know they won't be for everyone. So I'll refrain this time. However, a couple of years ago, they released a fantastic electronicore version of 'Everytime We Touch.' The version by Cascada (which borrowed the chorus from another song) is a Eurodance classic. Let's go with that one today: Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, May 5 are coming right up. Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... No perfect game this time, but that's a 68th win in a row for yours truly. That's over double my previous best streak and over two-thirds of the way to 100! Here's how I fared: 🟨🟦🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟩🟪🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 COAST, SETTLE, FLOAT and DRIFT seemed like they'd go together but not quite! I was one away there. I felt immediately very silly that I did not consider CRUISE, which was right next to SETTLE. I made that swap and got the yellows. I realized that a BAT, TORPEDO, CIGAR and HOAGIE (a type of bread roll used to make submarine or "sub" sandwiches) all have similar shapes and tried those out. Alas, I was one away again. Looking at BAT, it dawned on me that could go with a bunch of vampire- or Dracula-related words. So I swapped that out for BATON and was surprised to get the purples. I thought they'd be the greens. Huh. BAT then went with CAPE, FANG and CASTLE for the greens. The blue connection was straightforward enough. Not sure I agree with the difficulty levels for this one! That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday's game if you need them. P.S. The answer to a recent edition of Wordle was 'clash,' and I realized that I don't think I've included a song by The Clash in this recommendation section before. Let's change that right now. To stick with our usual Monday theme of upbeat songs, let's go with the brilliant 'Rock The Casbah.' Well, it's upbeat at least in terms of the instrumentation. After writing the opening lines, singer Joe Strummer looked at them and "for some reason I started to think about what someone had told me earlier, that you get lashed out for owning a disco album in Iran." It's a song about freedom and it's one that's catchy as heck: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too.

Perth Christmas lights: Council wins claim for cancelled switch-on
Council chiefs will get £97,000 back in insurance after they had to cancel the Christmas lights switch-on in Perth. Last year's event was scheduled for the weekend of November 23 and 24. But it was axed over fears about the impact of Storm Bert. Perth and Kinross Council later told The Courier it had spent a total of £114,941.51 on activities for the showcase. The authority's chief finance officer has now confirmed its insurance claim has been accepted. In a report to the council's finance and resources committee on Wednesday, Scott Walker wrote: 'The council has now received notification that the claim has been approved and the sum of £97,000 will be paid. 'As previously agreed by the committee, when received, this amount will be applied to an earmarked reserve for future events to augment activity in the future.' German dance trio Cascada had been due to take to the main stage on Tay Street before Storm Bert blew in. A firework and pyrotechnics display was also scheduled. Entertainment was planned in George Street, St John Street, High Street, Mill Street, and St Paul's Church. And a lantern parade was also expected to take place before the decision was taken to cancel the event due to travel and structural concerns. Perth was hit with heavy snow on the Saturday morning and roads around the city suffered disruption. The Christmas cabins and Santa Grotto remained in place throughout the festive period. The council said in January it had submitted an insurance claim. Last year's Perth Christmas lights switch-on was destined to be a more modest affair than in previous years. The council spent £126,092 in 2023, when X Factor star Chico and Boney M were the main attractions. It spent £168,748 in 2022 and £102,950 in 2021 when activities were still restricted due to Covid. The 2019 celebration cost £219,802 and featured acts such as Atomic Kitten and Basil Brush.
