Marti was indeed here to party ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Marti Pellow gave the crowd exactly what they wanted – and more on Saturday evening at Edinburgh Castle. His voice remains strong and his stage presence charismatic. And this concert – the second in the Castle Concerts series – was a real love in with people who know and adore him and his music. He said he was here to sing and would not offer too much in the way of banter – except to say that as he was driving to Edinburgh earlier the sky turned blue heralding his arrival on stage in the sunshine. Starting off with a reggae favourite Jammin' he quickly had the crowd on their feet with Wishin' I was lucky. The 7,000 or so at Edinburgh Castle were not exclusively women, but everyone was on their feet as soon as he asked them to stand up and dance. It was an accomplished performance from the star – and he is a superstar after all these years in the music business. He knew that the crowd wanted to hear (and sing along with) all the numbers they knew which he used to sing as the frontman with Wet Wet Wet. But he was crafty enough to intersperse them with other songs – including a surprise Starry, Starry Night with just a piano and a guitar to accompany him and the 1979 disco favourite Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now. The breadth of songs only emphasises his ability to sing just about anything alongside his seven piece band including two women backing vocalists. Nothing has been lost in his solo performance – the twinkle is still there and boy did he give it his all on the Castle Esplanade from 8.30 until 10.30 after a couple of encores. After 10pm there was time for a quick change into his 21st Century kilt – and a shout out for his friend Howie Nicolsby who made it for him. Then it was time for a real singalong with 'that song from that film'. The audience was in fine form with Love is All Around – which is also the name of the Marti Pellow tour. The crowd loved him – some of them saying on the way out that they can't wait to see him at the Hydro in November where he will play on his home turf. But in a nice moment towards the end he thanked the Edinburgh crowd saying: 'I've played here a few times but tonight I have to thank you all for your smiling faces and your energy, Thank you for giving me another memory to put in my top pocket.' And with that – after With a Little Help from my Friends – it was time to call it a night with Marti telling everyone to have a 'Safe journey home!' Kaiser Chiefs play Edinburgh Castle
Kaiser Chiefs took to the stage at Edinburgh Castle on Friday night kicking off the Castle Concerts series ahead of the Tattoo in August. Celebrating two decades in the business, the Leeds indie rock band began the run of concerts which continues on Saturday evening with Wets legendary frontman, Marti Pellow. Later on in the week Il Divo, Ludovico Einaudi and a special Harry Potter concert with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Kaiser Chiefs may have predicted a riot but the concerts at the Castle will no doubt take place with less disruption than that… The band was supported by Brighton's Youth Sector. Anyone attending Marti Pellow needs to know that the weather is for a high of 18°. Overcast all day with light rain in the afternoon according to the Met Office. As always for an outdoor event at the Castle – wear layers. Details of all the concerts here.
