UPDATE: Three policemen appear in court for allegedly escorting vehicle transporting dagga The three Flying Squad cops, Sergeant Solomon Mebo (49), Sergeant Jabulane Mbuyane (43) and Constable Lavandre LaReservee (32), who were arrested yesterday for allegedly escorting a vehicle transporting dagga on the N4, appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court today. They they were charged with defeating the ends of justice. They were granted bail of R1 500 each. Their next court appearance is scheduled for July 25. Other related charges could be added as the investigation progresses. ALSO READ: Three cops among five arrested in drug bust on N4 The two occupants of the vehicle, Joel Mamba (44) and Monica Zwane (34), are facing separate charges of dealing in dagga and will appear in court on June 17 for their bail application. They were caught allegedly transporting more than a 100 bags of dagga in a Toyota Corolla, while allegedly being escorted by the three policemen on the N4 near the Matsulu T-junction. Fourth disappearance reported – have you seen Khulekani?
A fourth missing persons case has been reported to the Middelburg Observer in the last month. • The Nkambule family from Hendrina and Siyathuthuka is pleading with the community in Kriel for assistance in locating their loved one, Khulekani Nkambule (23). He was last seen May 23 in Kriel, at the time of disappearance he was wearing all black clothes. Anyone with information that could assist in locating Khulekani Nkambule is asked to please call Siyabonga Nkambule on 076 368 1397. Nkambule's disappearance follows shortly on the following missing persons, all of whom have been reported to the Middelburg Observer: • Thabisile Thabethe (36), was last seen on May 30 at a bar in Blinkpan before heading home, she lives on Welverdiend Farm, and since then the Blinkpan SAPS and community members have been trying to contact her, the K9 unit from Secunda was organised to search with no potential sighting till today. • Meluleki Ndumiso Ncongwane (23) was last seen April 26, at the time of his disappearance he was wearing a grey and red tracksuit with white star sneakers. According to information Meluleki disappeared at around 22:00 between Stoffberg and Belfast Fourways, after being dropped off by a white Kia Picanto. • Hendrina Police are pleading with the public for assistance in locating Johannes Sibanyoni (45). Described as tall and light in complexion, Sibanyoni was last seen on May 25 wearing a blue shirt, brown trousers brown jacket, grey shoes and a black hat. The help of the SAPS and community members who tirelessly work around the clock and being on the lookout is commendable. They play an important role in the investigation processes. These are cases that are complex and can be emotionally challenging for the families and loved ones. The missing cases include the disappearance of minors and adults and it often includes foul play, mental health issues and other factors. Anyone with information about any possible sighting of the above-mentioned can report to their nearest police station. Strawberry Moon rises tonight
Look to the southern horizon just after sunset tonight, June 11, to witness the lowest full moon in nearly 20 years, known as the Strawberry Moon. Thanks to an orbital phenomenon called a major lunar standstill, the moon will rise unusually low in the sky — creating a dramatic and rare view for Southern Hemisphere skywatchers. While the full moon technically reaches its peak at 09:44 South African time (SAST), it will appear full and bright when it rises after sunset tonight. The best time to view it is shortly after moonrise, when it's close to the horizon and often appears larger and more golden. Parts of Mbombela to be without electricity for 12 hours A 12-hour power outage is expected in parts of Mbombela on Thursday, June 12, to complete the newly installed switchgear and to do maintenance work on the West Acres Substation of Block 14.
