CM Sukhu, LoP Jai Ram Thakur review Seraj flash flood damage

Shimla, July 10 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu held held a review meeting with Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur at Thunag Rest House to assess the scale of destruction and progress of relief operations in the Seraj region of Mandi district, which has been battered by multiple cloudbursts and flash floods over the past week. Amid the devastation, the Chief Minister directed state departments to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) on a war footing for the restoration of damaged infrastructure — including roads, bridges, drinking water schemes, and power supply systems. He specifically instructed that the DPR for the crucial 56-km Chail Chowk–Janjheli road be readied within a week and submitted for funding under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Stressing the urgency of the situation, CM Sukhu said he will soon visit Delhi to seek a special relief package from the Union Government. 'Restoration of essential services and rehabilitation of the affected families is the state's top priority,' he stated. The Chief Minister also announced that temporary shelters would be arranged for families who lost their homes and land. He directed the Mandi Deputy Commissioner to identify safe land parcels where prefabricated structures could be installed before the onset of winter. Coordination with the opposition and inter-departmental cooperation were emphasized to fast-track recovery efforts. LoP Jai Ram Thakur highlighted the widespread damage and underscored the need for swift rehabilitation of displaced families, especially in view of the approaching winter season. So far, around 60 percent of damaged drinking water schemes have been temporarily restored. The Public Works Department has been tasked with restoring road connectivity using bailey and suspension bridges, with the assurance of full financial support from the government. Former minister Prakash Chaudhary, senior Congress leaders, and local representatives also attended the meeting. UNI ML RN

Himachal Pradesh flash flood: CM Sukhu directs authorities to expedite restoration of roads, water, and power supply

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 10 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday directed concerned departments to expedite the restoration of roads and the resumption of disrupted water and electricity supply in flood-affected areas. Earlier, CM Sukhu held a meeting with Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur at the Thunag Rest House on Wednesday evening to review the damage and progress of relief and rescue operations in the Seraj region, which had been severely affected by torrential rains and cloud bursts recently. He said he would soon visit Delhi to meet with the Union Ministers to seek a special relief package for the State. The Chief Minister has instructed the concerned departments to immediately prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for the damaged roads, bridges, electricity, and water schemes within a week. He specifically mentioned that the 56-km Chail Chowk-Janjheli road would be proposed for strengthening under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). He also directed officers to coordinate closely with the Leader of Opposition and prioritise key schemes to accelerate relief efforts through inter-departmental collaboration. Despite the scale of devastation, he noted that 60 per cent of drinking water schemes have already been temporarily restored. CM Sukhu asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to restore connectivity through the construction of Bailey and suspension bridges, for which the government would provide the required funds. In the meeting, the leaders also discussed the issue of resettlement of families who have lost their land due to the devastation. Jai Ram Thakur highlighted that cloudburst incidents have caused extensive destruction, and with winter approaching, there is an urgent need to prioritise the rehabilitation of those who have lost everything. The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mandi, to identify safe locations for the temporary resettlement of affected families, where prefabricated structures can be installed to provide immediate shelter. He also instructed officials to assess the damages suffered by the horticulturists. Former Minister Prakash Chaudhary, Congress leaders Chet Ram, Jagdish Reddy, Vijay Pal Singh, APMC Chairman Sanjeev Guleria, Jeevan Thakur, Naresh Chauhan were also present in the meeting. (ANI)

Four-lane road in Bokaro gets Union govt approval

Bokaro: In a move set to strengthen Bokaro's industrial and regional connectivity, the Union govt has approved the four-lane road from Sector-6 Shastri Chowk to Telmocho. The 5.965-km stretch, sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for the 2024–25 financial year, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 62.2 crore. The project received approval from Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari following a proposal submitted by Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahto. The road is expected to ease vehicular movement, reduce congestion, and boost logistics efficiency between Bokaro and surrounding rural areas, including better access to Dhanbad. MP Dulu Mahto said, "This isn't just a road, it's a corridor of progress. The long-standing demand of the people has finally been addressed, and it will pave the way for faster economic growth in the region."

Traffic chaos looms in Guntur as flyover work rushed without alternative roads

1 2 Guntur: The rushed attempt to launch construction of a new four-lane flyover at Sankar Vilas Centre could trigger severe traffic disruptions, with alternative diversion roads still incomplete. Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar had asked authorities to begin flyover works within a fortnight, following an ₹98 crore grant under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) nearly eight months ago. Despite the roads and buildings department finalising designs by January 2025, delays in asset acquisition and marking by the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) stalled the project. Although the GMC fast-tracked land handover, legal disputes over compensation pushed the plan into limbo. Nearly 50 property owners moved court demanding cash payouts under the new Land Acquisition Act, rejecting the civic body's offer of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) bonds. Surprisingly, the GMC had failed to fully utilize the time to complete the development of alternative roads. The lack of coordination between the town planning and engineering wings in GMC has delayed the road development works. In fact, the newly developed road under the three-bridges junction was flooded with a simple rain last month leaving the civic authorities stumped. This road is important exit road for the commuters from Guntur west constituency to reach Vijayawada highway. The railway authorities closed down the passage near three-bridges junction for about four months for construction of additional railway track. The ruling TDP legislators opened the newly constructed road and drain claiming that they brought the decades long trouble of flooding of the road to an end. Within two weeks of its launch the traffic was completely stalled following a 30-minute rain leaving the legislators and officials shocked. "The problem at Donka Road (three-bridges junction) needed to be rectified before launching of Sankar vilas flyover work. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to handle the traffic in the city," said Guntur East legislator Mohammed Naseer. The GMC has been working on replacement of pipelines near Sarada Colony-Nehru Nagar road for the past several months. It was another exit road to reduce the traffic congestion in the city. Ironically, the GMC failed to exert pressure on the railway authorities to complete the Reddypalem-New Guntur railway station road to divert the freight vehicles without entering the city. The entry of container cargo vehicles into Sitaram Nagar road to reach New Guntur railway station is already crippling the traffic in the city. The city will be left with Pattabhipiram-Hindu college road and IRR to manage the massive traffic that moves between Guntur-Vijayawada.

Rs 81.47 crore approved for repair of 18km road in Saran

Chhapra: The state road construction department has approved Rs 81.47 crore for the widening and strengthening of an 18km-long road from Manpur to Garkha in Saran district under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a press release issued from his office, Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Wednesday claimed that this was another important achievement towards the infrastructure development of the Saran parliamentary constituency. Rudy stated that this road starts from Manpur under Dighwara block and goes up to Garkha Bazar (left out portion of NH 722). He further mentioned that important villages and markets like Bhairavpur, Matihan Chowk, Kamalpur, and Maulvi Bazar fall on this road. "After widening, the width of this road will be 10 metres, which will make the traffic easier, safer, and faster. To get this scheme included in CRIF, Rudy held continuous meetings with the state govt's road construction minister and the Union road transport and highways minister," Rudy said. Rudy expressed hope that in the future, this would improve regional connectivity and boost employment and economic activities.
