Postal department service: Booking mail, parcels online resumes after suspension

Bengaluru: Home pickup of mail and parcels by the postal department is back after a temporary suspension following glitches in the online system. Last week, just a few days into the rollout of Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0 announced across India on Aug 6, server issues led to a pileup of parcels and letters in the state's post offices. "While people booked parcels, and the postman picked them up from their homes, no entries could be made in the software at the post office… The service was then suspended temporarily," said a postal department official. Agreeing there were technical glitches, chief postmaster general of Karnataka Circle, K Prakash, said Wednesday the service was completely stabilised. "Since yesterday (Tuesday), it has been completely seamless. We are doing operations in APT2 pan India across 1.6 lakh post offices." Talking to TOI on the sidelines of a department of posts event, Prakash said, "The APT2 we just rolled out has a lot of features, hitherto not provided in our software. One of them is booking an article at the convenience of your mobile phone, and somebody will come and pick it up. It's basically like having a post office on your mobile phone." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo He added that all the services provided by the post office — banking, insurance, and logistic services — can be accessed on mobile phones. "We also provide tracking details. While we have rolled out the web-based service currently, it will be developed as an app soon." Postal services hit in Chennai as APT 2.0 glitches cause booking delays

As the Department of Posts rolled out APT (Advanced Postal Technology) 2.0 across its branches in the city earlier this week, several post offices faced glitches due to a server breakdown, leading to delays in booking of articles. Over the past two days, several residents who attempted to book Speed and Registered Posts, and money orders failed to complete the booking, even after a long wait at the counters. While at some post offices in Ambattur, Avadi, and Pattabiram, bookings took longer than usual due to sluggish network, counters were closed at several others, including in Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, and Ayanavaram, much to the inconvenience of the postal customers. According to the department, the APT has been designed as a single-window system to offer an enhanced user experience, and faster service delivery. However, the services have hit a roadblock due to network issues. In the past one year, the Tamil Nadu postal circle has handled nearly 11.84 crore Speed and Registered Posts in the State. 'I visited two post offices in my area to book speed post on Wednesday. But the counter operations were suspended. The General Post Office, too, was crowded. I finally had to send a package to Madhya Pradesh via Speed Post by private courier for double the charges,' a Kilpauk resident said. Admitting that the post offices in many areas faced issues, officials said the APT 2.0 digital platform was expanded to all post offices in Tamil Nadu after seamless operation during pilot rollout in post offices like in Vellore. The General Post Office on Rajaji Salai — which handles a high volume of Speed and Registered Post consignments — has had difficulties in booking 20,000-25,000 articles over the past two days. The post office has also put up notices announcing the network issue due to new software migration. Officials said the technical issues had been escalated to the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology, and the operations were expected to normalise in two days. However, post office banking operations were carried out as it was offered through Finacle digital banking platform.

Dept of posts launches digital services in Madikeri

Madikeri: The department of posts introduced IT 2.0 technology, which was launched at Madikeri head post office on Monday. The Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT), Mysuru, developed IT 2.0 for the department of posts, digitalising its services comprehensively. The postmen will now utilise an updated application system. Previously, postal staff recorded deliveries upon returning to the office. Currently, they can instantly record deliveries through the MAA, which is an internal mobile app. The new Open Network system resolves previous connectivity issues in rural areas. Unlike the former SAP technology, postal services now function smoothly by accessing various telecom networks, including BSNL, ensuring consistent service delivery. Customers can now pay for postal services through UPI platforms. This facility was previously limited to head offices, but has now been expanded to rural sub-offices, improving accessibility. DigiPIN system The new system, with a 10-digit alphanumeric DigiPIN for precise delivery services, has been introduced. Superintendent of posts (Kodagu circle) SP Ravi launched the facility. Assistant superintendent KM Gajendra, deputy inspector BD Manjunath, and postmaster SV Manjunath were present.
