Randomized Shows Her Heels To Molly Pitcher Rivals

Randomized Shows Her Heels To Molly Pitcher Rivals originally appeared on Paulick Report. Klaravich Stables' multiple graded stakes winner Randomized got the jump on her five filly and mare rivals out of the starting gate and was never headed en route to a three-length victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $500,000 Molly Pitcher, one of five graded stakes on Haskell Day at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. Ridden by Flavien Prat for Chad Brown, a combination that won the 2022 Molly Pitcher with Search Results, Randomized covered 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:42.75. The 5-year-old mare by Nyquist out of French Passport, by Elusive Quality, set all the fractions, going :23.97 for the opening quarter mile, :47.25 for the half, 1:10;98 for six furlongs and 1:36.15 for the mile. The victory was the third of the card for Brown and second for Prat. The pair came back in the next race, the G2 United Nations, to win with another Klaravich Stables runner, Redistricting. Randomized paid $6 to win. Majestic Oops finished second, a nose ahead of Candied in third, with Dorth Vader fourth, Occult fifth, and Chilled sixth. Leslie's Rose, who was entered in and won Friday's G2 Shuvee at Saratoga, was scratched, as were Regaled and Power Squeeze. Randomized, breaking from the three post, got the early advantage over Dorth Vader, who broke to her outside under John Velazquez. Dorth Vader, coming off a win in the G1 Ogden Phipps at Saratoga, was lapped on Randomized around the turn and in the run down the backstretch, but when the field rounded the final turn and straightened away into the stretch, Randomized put her away and raced off to the victory. 'She's a mare that always is forwardly placed," said Prat. "She jumped well out of the gate and got herself in the lead and took it from there. She felt very good.' Bred in Kentucky by Cove Springs, Randomized was purchased for $420,000 from Four Star Sales at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She won the G1 Alabama and G2 Beldame before finishing second to Idiomatic in the G1 Distaff as a 3-year-old in 2023, then added the G1 Ogden Phipps last year at 4. She came into the Molly Pitcher off a fifth-place finish over a sloppy racetrack in this year's Phipps, her second start of the year after a close third in the G1 La Troienne, beaten three-quarters of a length, May 2 at Churchill her win in the Molly Pitcher, Randomized has six wins from 13 career starts. Breaking down every facet of upcoming Saratoga meet

With the new Belmont Park grandstand under construction, New York racing fans have been left with the Aqueduct fall meet, the Aqueduct winter meet, the Aqueduct spring meet, the Belmont at the Big A summer meet, the Belmont at the Big A fall meet and the Finger Lakes at the Big A meet. OK, maybe not that last one, but you get the point. Sure, the Belmont Stakes was run upstate as well as the short and sweet July 4th Racing Festival, but now we get a full 40 days as the Saratoga summer meet commences. Big days Got your calendar ready? The Diana is this Saturday, July 12. The Coaching Club American Oaks and the Vanderbilt on July 19. The Jim Dandy is July 26. Four Grade 1 races on Saturday, August 2 including the Whitney and Fourstardave. The Sword Dancer is Aug. 9. The Alabama is on Aug. 16. There are five Grade 1 races on Travers Day on Aug. 23, including the Forego and the Personal Ensign. The Spinaway is on Aug. 30, the Jockey Club Gold Cup is on Aug. 31 and the Hopeful is on closing day, Labor Day, September 1. It's all about the horses While Preakness winner Journalism may run in the Haskell at Monmouth Park, he still may ship north to challenge arch rival Sovereignty in the Travers. Mindframe, Fierceness, Sierra Leone, White Abarrio and Skippylongstocking make this year's edition of the Whitney a must-see. 5 Sovereignty won the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course last month and is being pointed to run in the Travers Stakes on Aug. 23. Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images Thorpedo Anna, the 2024 Horse of the Year, was defeated by Raging Sea in May. Thorpedo Anna will attempt to turn the tables when they meet in the Personal Ensign. Trainers Two words. Chad Brown. He ran away (with a little help from his four-legged friends) with the 2024 meet. Brown saddled 45 winners and it was a long way back to Todd Pletcher and Mike Maker who dead-heated for second with 22 winners. While Linda Rice (18) and Bill Mott (15) rounded out the top five, it was Mark Casse who had the higher win percentage (28.3 percent). 5 Chad Brown, who had the most wins at Saratoga in 2024, will be the favorite to win the 2025 meet. Jason Szenes for New York Post Riders up! Irad Ortiz Jr. visited the winners circle 52 times last summer but it was Flavien Prat who set records for most stakes wins (18) and graded stakes wins (14) at a Saratoga meet. Expect Luis Saez, Junior Alvarado, Manny Franco and Dylan Davis to get their fair share of wins and Jose Ortiz may give his brother, Irad, a run for his money. One thing for sure. You will both love and curse every rider before the meet is over. 5 Jockey Flavien Prat had a dominant 2024 Saratoga meet in stakes races. AP On the turf Chad Brown is a smart bet on dirt. And an even safer bet on the grass. Of Brown's 45 winners last summer, 26 were on the lawn. That number was three times larger than the rest of the conditioners. Baby races First impressions are important and there will be plenty of 2-year-olds making their career debuts at Saratoga over the 40-day meet. A look back shows Chad Brown, yes him again, led last year's standings with 10 juvenile wins, but only one more than the nine that Mark Casse trained. Casse's Ewing, a son of Knicks Go, slam-dunked his debut on July 5, winning by a dozen lengths and may reappear in the Hopeful later in the meet. Might as well jump 5 There are a couple of traditional steeplechase races at this Saratoga meet. AP Steeplechase racing has long been a staple of the Saratoga meet. Stakes on this year's schedule include the A.P. Smithwick Memorial on July 23 and the Jonathan Sheppard Memorial on Aug. 20. Freebies Giveaway days this summer: July 11: T-shirt July 20: Hawaiian shirt July 25: Blanket Aug. 8: Pennant Aug. 22: Tote bag Aug. 31: Saratoga quarter zip sweatshirt The forecast Likely more losers than winners but hopefully the weather will cooperate this season more than it has the past two years. 2023 was bad. 2024 was worse. Not only did the 40-day meet shrink to 39, but 45 turf races were taken off the grass and moved to the dirt/slop. Rooting for my picks and Mother Nature as well. 5 Spectators had to battle the rain on Belmont Stakes Day at Saratoga Race Course on June 7, 2025. Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images Turn on the races Fox Sports offers exclusive coverage of all races from Saratoga. If you don't want to pick your own winners, Greg Wolf, Laffit Pincay, Andy Serling, Richard Migliore, Jonathon Kinchen, Maggie Wolfendale, Acacia Clement and Sara Elbadwi will do it for you. That's enough handicappers to field a softball team. Did I forget anyone? Oh yes, Paul Lo Duca will bat cleanup. Post time is 1:10 p.m. May all the photo finishes go your way.

Carl Spackler adds truly international flavour to Queen Anne cracker

Three times a Grade One winner for Chad Brown in the States, the Lope De Vega five-year-old is now owned by Yulong Investments and with a new trainer in Ciaron Maher, meaning he will be a first Australian runner in a race superstar American mare Tepin won in 2016. Connections feel they have the right type of horse to be competitive, with William Bourne, Maher's bloodstock manager, saying: 'The sample size (of international runners in the Queen Anne) isn't huge, but his times really stacked up and just his temperament and attitude, he's the perfect horse to travel – he's an absolute dude and I think he's going to run a big race. Yulong Investments have confirmed the purchase of Carl Spackler, who will target the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal @Ascot! The horse, who has joined @cmaherracing, will become the first Australian-trained runner in the race before heading down under for a spring campaign. — At The Races (@AtTheRaces) May 26, 2025 'He's a very straightforward horse, there's not much to know – what you see is what you get. He's got a great temperament, he's like a kid's pony, he's made it so easy to bring him here, get him into the rhythm and train him. He's definitely made life easy for the boss. 'It's a red-hot race, there's no hiding, you're at Royal Ascot in a Group One so you're under no impression you're going to get an easy field. It is what it is, we think he's a pretty good horse and hopefully he can show up on Tuesday. 'When you speak to English owners and trainers at the Melbourne Cup, the buzz is the whole week and this is very similar – great weather, a lot of people, a lot of hype. It's a very international raceday and world class so just to even be here as a spectator or have a horse here, it's a privilege and to have Yulong entrust us with the horse is just amazing.' Lead Artist, Dancing Gemini, Rosallion and Notable Speech set a high standard for Carl Spackler to aim at, having filled the first four places in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, as does Sardinian Warrior. John Gosden is responsible for both Lead Artist and Sardinian Warrior, who is coming off a career-best in the Prix d'Ispahan. Of Lead Artist, Gosden said: 'I think the stiff mile at Ascot will suit him well rather than a slick mile and it's a wonderful race. 'You have the first four in the Lockinge all turning up and will they finish in the same order, that will be the question. 'He got stuck in the ground at Sandown and he doesn't like that. He likes what we got at Newbury in the Lockinge and what we're hopefully going to get at Ascot on Tuesday. 'He was in need of the race at Sandown and he came there travelling nicely, it was just on that ground he struggled to get home. He turned that round and it wasn't a huge surprise. Did I think he would win? Probably not, but I did think he would run a huge race.' Of Sardinian Warrior, he added: 'He ran a nice race in France and it's always nice to have a good second-string. 'I think the other horse did outstay him but let's face it, Sosie is a really good horse. Andre Fabre saw the race was there for taking and supplemented him, but he's a mile-and-a-quarter-plus horse really and coming back to a mile could suit our horse.' Notable Speech won last year's 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes and Charlie Appleby expects him to take a good step forward from his Lockinge reappearance. He told the Godolphin website: 'Notable Speech comes into this in great order and we are looking forward to seeing him on the straight track at Ascot. 'The Lockinge was his first start of the year and he has definitely come forward for the run. Conditions are there to suit him and it looks a fantastic race to kick off the meeting.'
