Maoist leader arrested in AP's Alluri Sitharama Raju district
1 2 Visakhapatnam: The G Madugula police in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district have arrested Chaitho alias Naresh alias Santhu, a divisional committee member and secretary of the Pedabayalu-Korukonda Area Committee of the banned Maoist outfit. The arrest was made during a search operation in the forest area between Rasarayi–Burralapanuku–Chintaguppa villages of Killamkota panchayat in G Madugula mandal. Chaitho, a native of Bhaliaput village in Koraput district of Odisha, was drawn into the outfit in 2011 at the age of 15 through revolutionary songs. According to ASR district superintendent of police (SP) Amit Bardar, Chaitho had a long history of involvement with the Maoists, having joined the Jana Natya Mandali (JNM) and secured party membership in 2012. He worked with the technical wing of the Andhra–Odisha border special zonal committee (AOBSZC) from 2013 to 2016 and was promoted to divisional committee member in 2025. Chaitho was allegedly involved in eight exchanges of fire with police personnel and was found in possession of firearms and Maoist literature. Madugula police on Sunday arrested Chaitho alias Naresh alias Santhu, Divisional Committee Member and Secretary of the Pedabayalu–Korukonda Area Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist), in the forest area between Rasarayi, Burralapanuku and Chintaguppa villages of Killamkota panchayat in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district. He was caught after attempting to fire at the police and flee during a search operation. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said Chaitho, a native of Bhaliaput village in Koraput district, Odisha, was drawn into Maoism as a teenager in 2011 through revolutionary songs. He joined the Jana Natya Mandali (JNM), secured party membership in 2012, and worked with the technical wing of the Andhra–Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) from 2013 to 2016. Rising through the ranks, Chaitho became an Area Committee Member in 2017, commanded dalam teams in Boipariguda and cut-off areas, and in 2025 was elevated to Divisional Committee Member for Pedabayalu–Korukonda. Between 2016 and 2020, he was involved in at least eight exchanges of fire in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, a .303 rifle with ammunition, kitbags and Maoist literature from him. The SP appealed to Maoist cadres to surrender and warned of strict action against those sheltering or aiding the outlawed outfit.
