Champaign Co. Crime Stoppers announces 6 arrests, $11k in rewards through tips in May
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is highlighting the work of anonymous tipsters during the month of May in helping law enforcement make Champaign County a safer place. Officials said that during the month, anonymous tips from the public resulted in the following: six arrests, the seizure of four illegally possessed guns and ammunition and the seizure of illegal narcotics and drug packaging materials. The organization's Board of Directors approved $11,100 in cash rewards, including four $2,500 rewards through the Illegal Gun Bounty Reward Program. Champaign Police looking for tips in $500 theft from Kohl's 'Once again, the public came through to provide anonymous information that took dangerous felons and illegal weapons and drugs off the streets of Champaign County,' said John Hecker, President of Champaign County Crime Stoppers. 'Crime Stoppers works thanks to the trust and support of our community members, the local media, and law enforcement. U of I Police, Crime Stoppers looking for pair of package thieves
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois Police Department and Champaign County Crime Stoppers are asking the public for help in identifying two package thieves. Officials said that on April 23, two people were outside the apartment building at 103 East Healey Street and waited for someone to open the secured door. Once they got inside, the two suspects stole multiple packages from the front lobby. U of I graduation parties shut down Campustown street overnight The suspects were recorded on the building's security cameras as they entered and stole the packages. Champaign Co. Crime Stoppers seeking tips in $11k credit card fraud
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking the public for help in finding a man who they said committed credit card fraud at three stores in Champaign and Savoy. Officials said that on Feb. 26, a stolen credit card was used at Menards and Rural King in Champaign and at Walmart in Savoy. The suspect purchased numerous items that included riding lawn mowers, totaling over $11,000 in value. Decatur Police looking for public's help in finding arson suspect The suspect was recorded on surveillance footage as he made the purchases. Officials said he appeared to be a Black male who was wearing a dark blue zip-up hoodie, blue jeans, black sneakers, a tan winter hat and sunglasses. He left the stores in a white Dodge Ram van. Anyone who knows something about this crime or the suspect's identity is asked to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers and submit a tip. Crime Stoppers looking for tips in Rantoul storage unit burglary
RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — The Rantoul Police Department and Champaign County Crime Stoppers are asking for help in finding the people responsible for burglarizing a storage facility earlier this month. The burglary happened on April 11 at a facility in the 100 block of East Flessner Avenue. Surveillance footage showed that at approximately 1:10 a.m., two people arrived in a white U-Haul van, cut the lock off of one of the storage units and took several items from the unit and put them in their van. Champaign Police, Crime Stoppers investigating credit card fraud
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department and Champaign County Crime Stoppers are looking for tips from the public that can help them solve a case of credit card fraud. Officials said that on March 29, a woman used stolen credit cards to buy gasoline for two cars. The purchase happened around 3 a.m. at the Thornton's on Mattis Avenue. Why is my water murky? Rantoul begins flushing water mains Surveillance footage showed the suspect, who was described as a 'heavy-set' Black woman wearing a brown jacket with blue sleeves, a white shirt, black and white shorts and gray Crocs. She used the stolen credit cards to fill up a white Chevrolet SUV and a blue minivan. In addition, the woman tried to buy items from the convenience store with the stolen cards, but the purchases were denied, officials said. Both the SUV and minivan left the gas station a short time later. Anyone who has information on this crime is asked to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers to submit a tip.
