Los Blancos are of course currently locked in action, in the 2nd leg of a Champions League Last-16 showdown with city rivals Atlético. After shining off the bench in the tie's opener at the Santiago last week, the aforementioned Modrić was rewarded by way of a return to starting duties this evening, pushing Eduardo Camavinga into a substitute role. Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. was tonight on the receiving end of racial abuse on the part of sections of Atlético supporters. The latest edition of the Madrid Derby is of course currently being contested. In the 2nd leg of a Champions League Last-16 tie between the city rivals, Diego Simeone's Atlético have welcomed Real to the Wanda Metropolitano for a highly-anticipated clash. And, as things stand, it is the evening's hosts who boast the advantage, owing to a Conor Gallagher strike inside the opening 60 seconds. As alluded to above, though, ahead of kick-off in the derby, it was matters away from the pitch which grabbed the headlines. And, unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. This comes after Real Madrid standout Vinícius Jr. was the target of digusting racist abuse from a group of Atlético fans. Barcelona, of course, are primed to return to action later this evening. Turning attentions back towards matters on the continent, the Blaugrana will welcome the aforementioned Benfica to Catalunya's capital, for a Champions League Last-16 2nd-leg clash. Hansi Flick's troops boast a narrow advantage heading into the fixture, owing to a hard-fought 1-0 victory in Portugal last week. With qualification for the quarter-finals far from secured, though, Flick and his coaching staff have nevertheless opted to call upon a strong group of players. The only absentees of note come in the form of long-term sidelined pair Marc-André ter Stegen and Marc Bernal, along with Andreas Christensen. This comes amid confirmation that Ángel Di Maria has been ruled out of the matchup through injury. Barca and Benfica are of course primed to lock horns on the continent on Wednesday night. In the first of two Champions League Last-16 fixtures, the latter will act as hosts, in welcoming Hansi Flick's La Liga table-toppers to Lisbon for a highly-anticipated showdown.
