Vinícius Jr. targeted with racist chants from Atlético fans
Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. was tonight on the receiving end of racial abuse on the part of sections of Atlético supporters.
The latest edition of the Madrid Derby is of course currently being contested.
In the 2nd leg of a Champions League Last-16 tie between the city rivals, Diego Simeone's Atlético have welcomed Real to the Wanda Metropolitano for a highly-anticipated clash.
And, as things stand, it is the evening's hosts who boast the advantage, owing to a Conor Gallagher strike inside the opening 60 seconds.
As alluded to above, though, ahead of kick-off in the derby, it was matters away from the pitch which grabbed the headlines.
And, unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.
This comes after Real Madrid standout Vinícius Jr. was the target of digusting racist abuse from a group of Atlético fans.
The individuals in question, as showcased in the footage below, came together outside the Metropolitano to belt out chants of:

Real Madrid Legend Linked To European Giant
Real Madrid legend Luka Modric is being linked with a possible move to AC Milan by both the Italian press and transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, citing anonymous sources. Modric's departure from the Bernabeu after winning no fewer than six Champions League titles across 13 glory-filled years was announced last month, as the European club season wound down. 'The time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that's football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end... On Saturday I will play my last game at the Santiago Bernabeu,' Modric wrote in a farewell letter. 'I arrived in 2012 with the illusion of wearing the shirt of the best team in the world and with the ambition to do great things, but I could not imagine what came next. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history,' the Croat added, while also explaining that he will play in the Club Word Cup which kicks off in the United States on June 14. Regardless of how far Los Blancos go, though, Modric must find a new employer if he wishes to continue playing, while closing in on his 40th birthday. That's where AC Milan could come in according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, which has run a front page spread regarding the potential free transfer. Elsewhere on X, formerly known as Twitter, Fabrizio Romano explained that 'AC Milan new director Igli Tare dreams of bringing Luka Modrić to the club'. 'He's one of the names mentioned in initial internal talks. Modric received several approaches from clubs all over the world since leaving Real Madrid, [but is] not in a rush to pick his next club,' the Italian added. Thought of by many as being Real Madrid's greatest ever midfielder, Modric clearly has plenty of options to continue a storied career. Real Madrid Arrives In Argentina To Sign Wonderkid, Reports OK Diario
A delegation from Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid is currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina with a view to landing one of the World Cup champion's most highly-rated wonderkids according to OK Diario, whose director Eduardo Inda cited anonymous sources during an appearance on popular television program El Chiringuito. After landing Endrick from across the border in Brazil last summer, Madrid has often been linked to River Plate's Franco Mastantuono, who is also wanted by recently-crowned Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain. Already signing Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold in less than a week after the end of a trophyless 2024/2025 season in terms of major silverware, Los Blancos are also looking to secure one of South American soccer's most talked-up prodigies according to Inda. 'They tell me that emissaries from Real Madrid are in Buenos Aires to try to close the signing of Franco Mastantuono, from River Plate, this week. They will try to close it this week and take it to the Club World Cup,' Inda stated. 'PSG, [Manchester] City and Real Madrid want him. He has dual nationality, Argentine and Italian and does not occupy a non-EU position. Real Madrid's intention is to close it this week and he costs about €45 or €50 million,' Inda added. Unlike players such as Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo and Endrick, Madrid wouldn't have to wait for Mastantuono to turn 18 in order for him to join Xabi Alonso's squad because of the fact he holds an EU passport.
