Commission report on Kaleshwaram will be tabled in the Assembly to decide future course of action: CM
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that the report submitted by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose Commission, which inquired into the alleged irregularities and illegalities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, will be placed in the Assembly for a thorough discussion.
The Chief Minister said the session of the legislature will be convened soon so as to elicit the views of all political parties on the future course of action that should be taken into the findings of the report. 'We will take views of all political parties. Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao and his party can give their views on the report,' he said.
Mr. Revanth Reddy was speaking on Monday (August 04) after the meeting of the State Cabinet which approved the Ghose Commission report. He lamented that the previous government headed by Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao shifted the location of the Pranahita Chevella project in the name of redesign and commissioned the construction of Medigadda Barrage against the recommendations of the expert committee. Two other barrages Annaram and Sundilla, forming part of the project, too developed cracks, he said adding the lopsided decisions of the previous government had resulted in damages to the project which was billed as lifeline for Telangana.
He said the Congress government had appointed the judicial commission in line with the promise made in the election manifesto and the Commission conducted thorough examination of over 110 people, including Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao, then Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, before finalising its report. 'There are no politics in this. The Commission is an independent judicial body, not a government-manned one,' he said replying to queries on charges made by BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavita. He said Ms. Kavita ought to have represented her case to the Commission if she had any issues rather than criticising the government now.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the former Chief Minister and BRS president for misleading the Assembly with his claims on Kaleshwaram project. While suppressing the report of the expert committee against construction of the barrages, the previous government claimed that the project had approvals from the Cabinet and fulfilled all the requirements. 'It is the sole decision of the then Chief Minister to change the project site with claims that there is no availability of water at Tummidihatti. This was at a time when the then Union Jal Shakti Minister Uma Bharti approved hydrological clearance to Pranahita Chevella project on the ground that 205 tmcft water was available at Tummidihatti,' he said.
