Boat owner has bad day at American Lake boat launch in Lakewood, photos show
A pick-up truck was removed from American Lake Sunday morning, according to Lakewood police. The truck rolled down the boat launch on the north side of the lake early Saturday evening, said Sgt. Charles Porche. The driver backed down the launch to pull the boat out of the water, but forgot to put the vehicle in park, he said. The boat launch was closed early Sunday morning so the truck could be removed. It took about an hour to pull it out of the water, Porche said. These kinds of incidents happen about once a year, he said. 'Boat and vehicle have been recovered,' a Lakewood police social media post reads. 'Ramp and park are open for business. West Pierce Fire & Rescue provided medical care to five of the victims, Porche said, per the outlet. Those five were taken to a local hospital, while three others went to the hospital on their own. 'Unfortunately, there were unintended/uninvolved victims struck during this careless act of violence,' Porche said in a news release, per the AP. 'Detectives will continue to sort through the information gathered to hold those involved accountable for their actions.' Police said the victims ranged from a 16-year-old girl, who was in stable condition, to a 38-year-old man who was in critical condition, the outlet reported. Three others were in serious condition. 'We've had these couple of days here where the sun finally came out and it's been a gorgeous time for people to get out and enjoy the park, the lake and then you have something like this that happens,' Porche said. 'It is one of the great tragedies, right? You don't want anybody to get shot and then you end up with seven different victims that happen out of this act of violence.'Investigators told the News Tribune that they don't yet know how many shooters were involved or if the victims were intended targets. No arrests have been made, and the shooting remains under investigation. 7 people shot at park in Washington state: 'Careless act of violence'
Seven people were shot at a park in Washington state on Wednesday, May 28, police said. The Lakewood Police Department said in a Facebook post that seven people, ranging from ages 16 to 38, were shot at shortly before 8 p.m. local time at Harry Todd Park in the city. Police also said on May 29 that two out of the seven victims remain in serious condition, while one is in critical condition and the four others are in stable condition. Five of the victims were found at the park, while two others walked to local hospitals, police told KOMO News. "Most of these people were unintentionally struck during this careless act of violence," police wrote in its Facebook post. "Detectives will continue to sort through the information gathered to hold those involved accountable for their actions." According to the social media post, police believe the shooting was not random and stemmed from a conflict. "Currently detectives believe that this incident began as a dispute between two groups that escalated to gunshots," police wrote. "There is no threat to the public and this was not a targeted attack on park goers." As of May 29, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Police told KOMO that the scene at the park was 'chaotic' once they arrived, as many families and children were present when the shots rang out.
