Former Oklahoma RB transfers to Florida State

Former Oklahoma RB transfers to Florida State Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Gavin Sawchuk found a new home via the transfer portal. After three seasons in Norman, Sawchuk will spend the 2025 season in Tallahassee playing for Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles. Sawchuk entered the spring transfer portal window along with fellow RB Sam Franklin (who has committed to USF) after the pair were the odd men out of a deep rotation for DeMarco Murray. In addition to newcomer Jaydn Ott, OU also returns Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, and Taylor Tatum. Sawchuk was Oklahoma's leading rusher in 2023, but failed to make an impact in 2024. He was a member of the 2022 recruiting class for Brent Venables and enjoyed his breakout game in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl against the 'Noles. New FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn landed Sawchuk after flipping former Oklahoma QB commit Kevin Sperry in the 2025 class. He's also been pursuing Jaden O'Neal, OU's 2026 QB commit, heavily as well. Unfortunately, Sawchuk was never able to build on a huge final five games of the '23 season, but he's proven that he can be a real difference-maker when the situation is right. He'll now take his talents to the ACC to try and prove that with the Seminoles. Former Oklahoma RB predicted to transfer to Florida State

Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Gavin Sawchuk entered the NCAA spring transfer portal window ahead of the April 25th deadline last week. And while he hasn't found his new home yet, one industry insider believes Sawchuk will be heading to the ACC. Sawchuk was the odd man out in a crowded Oklahoma running back room ahead of the 2025 season. He and Sam Franklin (who has signed with USF) entered the spring portal as the Sooners looked to free up carries. The portal addition of Jaydn Ott, coupled with the returns of Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, and Taylor Tatum, left Sawchuk and Franklin looking for carries elsewhere. On3 Sports' transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos logged an expert prediction that Sawchuk will sign with the Florida State Seminoles. After leading the Sooners in rushing yards in 2023, Sawchuk didn't enjoy nearly the same kind of production in 2024. Advertisement Sawchuk visited Florida State on Friday, and head coach Mike Norvell has seen what the class of 2022 running back is capable of. When the Sooners and the Seminoles faced off in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl, Sawchuk ran for over 100 yards in his first real extended action of the season. In 2023, Sawchuk had five straight games of 100 yards rushing to close the season, providing optimism that 2024 would be an even bigger year. But injuries to the offensive line kept the Sooners run game from getting going for much of the season. It was hard for any running back to find success. Former Auburn and UCF head coach Gus Malzahn is the new offensive coordinator for Florida State. Sawchuk also had a big day against the Knights back in 2023 when Malzahn was still in Orlando. The 'Noles have had plenty of dealings with OU players recently. They flipped former QB commit Kevin Sperry ahead of national signing day last winter, and they're also heavily pursuing OU's class of 2026 QB commit Jaden O'Neal. Now Sawchuk, who's proven he can be a lead back at the Power Four level when everything's right, could be joining the Seminoles after leaving Oklahoma. Injured Florida State Quarterback Drafted by the Jets Retires From NFL as Recovery Stalls

Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis has retired from football. Travis led the Seminoles to an 11-0 record and contention for a spot in the 2024 College Football Playoff before suffering a gruesome injury. Despite this, the New York Jets drafted him in the fifth round on the hope that he would recover. But after consulting with medical personnel, Travis decided to retire. 'Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State,' Jets general manager Darren Mougey said in a statement on the In a statement of his own, handwritten and posted as an image to 'On Nov. 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn,' the statement read. 'I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I've been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.' 'It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust The Lord's Plan above all else.' Related Stories 9/4/2023 11/26/2024 Travis originally committed to Louisville. He played in three games for the Cardinals before transferring to Florida State in 2018. He appeared in four games for the team in 2019. In 2020, he played eight games for the Seminoles, starting six and going 3-3. He threw for 1,056 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions, adding 569 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs. In 2021, Travis started nine games, going 5-4. He threw for 1,539 yards, 15 TDs, and six picks, adding 530 yards and seven TDs on the ground. Travis won the full-time job in 2022. He led the 'Noles to a 10-3 record and a victory over Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl. He threw for 3,214 yards and 24 TDs with just five interceptions, and added 417 yards rushing and seven rushing TDs. Travis and the Seminoles entered the 2023 season hot. Ranked eighth in the national polls, they exploded to an 11-0 record and consistently ranked in the top five. Travis threw for 2,734 yards, 20 TDs, and just two interceptions in that span. Late in the first quarter of their Nov. 18 game against North Alabama, Travis took off on an option play and ran for a first down, but he landed awkwardly on his left foot while being tackled. His left ankle was visibly bent and immobile, and he was carted off the field. He was diagnosed with a dislocated and fractured left ankle that ended his season and his college football career. The Seminoles won their final game of the regular season against Florida with Tate Rodemaker at quarterback, won the ACC Championship against Louisville with Brock Glenn, and finished the season No. 4 in the national poll. But the College Football Playoff committee excluded them from the bracket, citing the fact that neither Rodemaker nor Glenn threw a passing touchdown in those two games, combined with a dramatic drop-off in scoring (FSU averaged 34 points per game with Travis; they beat Florida 24-15 and Louisville 16-6). 'Florida State is a different team than it was the first 11 weeks,' CFP selection committee Chairman Boo Corrigan told ESPN at the time. 'As you look at who they are as a team right now, without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic he brings, they are a different team and the committee voted Alabama four and Florida State five.' 'Devastated. Heartbroken,' Travis wrote on The Seminoles were blown out by Georgia, 63-3, in the Orange Bowl. Without Travis on the roster, the Jets are left with

Georgia football signs Illinois transfer RB

Georgia football signs Illinois transfer RB The Georgia Bulldogs have signed Illinois Fighting Illini running back Josh McCray via the NCAA transfer portal. McCray is a bruising back, who has one year of eligibility left, and was Illinois' leading rusher in 2024. McCray had a team-high 117 carries, 609 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns (No. 9 in the Big Ten/tied) in 2024. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back has a physical running style and is tough to bring down on first contact. McCray does not have elite speed, but runs with toughness and is excellent in between the tackles. McCray spent the first four seasons of his college football career with Illinois. He missed a lot of action in 2022 and 2023 due to injuries, but returned for a healthy and productive campaign in 2024. 247Sports ranks McCray as the No. 27 transfer running back in the country and the No. 435 overall player to enter the portal (includes the spring and winter portal windows). McCray's transfer ranking is surprisingly low considering his production from last season. However, McCray has some limitations as a pass catcher and a concerning injury history, so perhaps that explains McCray's transfer ranking. Highlights from McCray's Cheez-It Bowl game McCray's top performance in 2024 came in Illinois' 21-17 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. He recorded 114 rushing yards on 13 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. Kirby Smart reacts after McCray's commitment Georgia also brought in Army outside linebacker transfer Elo Modozie and Miami defensive line transfer Josh Horton. The Bulldogs have several other notable transfer portal targets, but they are mostly on defense. Georgia is in the mix for Syracuse defensive lineman Maraad Watson and UNC edge rusher Beau Atkinson, who are two of the top available players in the transfer portal.
