Former Clemson cornerback Mario Goodrich signs with the Denver Broncos, per reports
Former Clemson standout Mario Goodrich is getting another opportunity in the NFL.
The Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League released Goodrich on Monday so he could sign with an NFL team, and according to PFN's James Larsen, the veteran cornerback is now joining the Denver Broncos.
Goodrich signed with the Stallions in February after being waived by the New York Giants ahead of the 2024 NFL season. He went on to appear in seven games this year—six during the regular season and one in the postseason—while battling through injury. The 6-foot, 191-pound defensive back finished his UFL stint with 17 total tackles (one for loss), six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
Before his time in the UFL, Goodrich spent time with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Giants. He initially signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft and remained on their practice squad for two seasons. Goodrich saw game action with the Eagles in 2023, playing in four games (one start) and recording five tackles, including three solo stops.
At Clemson, Goodrich appeared in 47 games with 16 starts from 2018 to 2021. He totaled 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He earned first-team All-ACC and third-team All-America honors as a senior and was named MVP of the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl.

Chicago Cubs fans react to Wrigley Field's 2027 All-Star Game announcement. But what about tickets?
The MLB All-Star Game is returning to Wrigley Field in 2027 for the fourth time and first in 37 years. The festivities are still two years away, but fans at Tuesday's Cubs game were looking forward to seeing the sport's best players in Chicago. 'I'm really excited,' said Sean Healy, 56, who lives in Los Angeles but travels to Chicago for games. 'I've been to the World Series, I've been to playoff games here. Never been to an All-Star Game.' The 2027 game will be the eighth time the Midsummer Classic takes place in Chicago. The most recent was on July 15, 2003, at U.S. Cellular Field. Led by two scoreless innings from Sox right-hander Esteban Loaiza, the American League won 7-6 and gained home-field advantage for the World Series. Wrigley last hosted the MLB All-Stars in 1990, with previous games in 1947 and 1962. The last outing was remembered for a 68-minute rain delay and a lack of offense in the AL's 2-0 win. Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg won the Home Run Derby. 'We're pretty old-school, so we like old Wrigley,' Debra Brooks, 69, said Tuesday. 'We used to always enjoy coming early to catch the balls and things like that.' Cubs fans made way-too-early predictions that center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong will be present for the 2027 All-Star Game, along with shout-outs to other Cubs. Not mentioned were rookie third baseman Matt Shaw, who homered Tuesday, or left-hander Shota Imanaga, who had seven strikeouts in a quality start in the 5-1 loss. 'Hopefully Michael Busch by that time will be there, (Seiya) Suzuki will get his first nod and maybe Cade Horton and (Matthew) Boyd,' Healy said. Added Brooks: 'Not as exciting as a World Series, but it will be really cool. It's probably going to be really hard to get tickets.' The 2025 All-Star Game at the Atlanta Braves' Truist Park sold out in a blink of an eye — despite the cost. The get-in price was $220 for standing room only, while seats ranged from $260 to more than $2,500. Wrigley Field, which holds 41,649 fans, likely won't be any more generous when it comes to ticket prices. But that won't faze die-hard Cubs fans. 'I don't really have ticket shock,' Healy said. 'I paid $3,000 to sit in the bleachers for Game 3 of the World Series and I paid $2,800 on opening night in Tokyo. I won't go above those numbers though — $3,000 World Series is my threshold.' It was a long, drawn-out fight to bring the All-Star Game back to the Friendly Confines. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred pointed to a planned $32.1 million security improvement, which includes installing bollards and widening sidewalks, as the reason Wrigley won the bid. 'It really is important for us and it was important for securing the game,' Manfred said in the Aug. 1 announcement. Added Gov. JB Pritzker, who was also in attendance: 'What makes the city and state so welcoming is the kindness and the uplifting spirit of our people. So to all the baseball fans out there, we can't wait to welcome you to the great city of Chicago.' Chicago is used to hosting big events, including Lollapalooza last weekend and the NASCAR Chicago Street Race over the Fourth of July weekend. When the baseball world descends upon Wrigleyville for the 2027 event, Cubs faithful believe the area can handle the rush. 'We've got to remember that we're in a neighborhood, so there's so much that you can do,' Healy said. 'I think for people who have never been here before or have always wanted to come, it'll be very special, especially with all the events that they plan and the MLB experience.' It won't matter if it's Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Cal Raleigh or any other All-Star who plays at Wrigley Field. Cubs fans will be there and they'll say the same thing: Finally.

Broncos' deep WR room ready to compete for spots in preseason
The Denver Broncos only list two starting wide receivers on their "unofficial" depth chart: Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims. Devaughn Vele is listed as the backup to Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin is listed as the backup to Mims. Pat Bryant, the team's third-round pick in this year's draft, is buried among the rookies (don't read into that). 'Courtland has been having a really good camp," offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said earlier this week. "He looks to me even better than he did last camp. We mentioned Troy. Marvin is coming along. He finished strong last year, and we expect him to keep on that upward trajectory. Vele's been dealing with some things, but he's looking good now. I think he's had a couple of his best days the last two days." Those four players -- plus Bryant, who will have to "earn" his spot this summer -- are the team's top WRs going into 2025. Who ends up being the sixth wide receiver remains to be seen. Lombardi specifically mentioned veteran Trent Shrierfield, who was signed this spring, and Michael Bandy, who spent the last two seasons on the practice squad. "We've added Sherfield Sr. and he's been… I think we all know he's a great blocker, but the ball keeps finding him in practice. He's making a lot of catches out here. Bandy is always Mr. Reliable. We have some young guys that are really playing well, some of our rookies that were free agents. It's been a really good class as far as that's concerned. Like you said, we have a lot of depth and it's going to be interesting as camp goes on and develops." The competition for playing time at receiver will heat up this weekend when the Broncos face the San Francisco 49ers on the road in their preseason opener. The list of undrafted rookies competing for spots features Joaquin Davis, Courtney Jackson, Jerjuan Newton and Kyrese Rowan. Everyone will look to impress over the next few weeks ahead of the cutdown to a 53-man roster. Several receivers who don't end up on the active roster could stick around on the practice squad -- or catch on with another team. The preseason games will be crucial. Stay tuned. Bears WR Rome Odunze makes bold claim about QB Caleb Williams
The hope and optimism around Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is extremely high coming into the 2025 season, and expectations are high even among teammates. With new head coach Ben Johnson leading the way this season, there is plenty of reason to believe that Williams will take a big leap in his growth and development, and wide receiver Rome Odunze believes Williams can develop into a star quarterback. Both Williams and Odunze were both first round picks for the Bears last season, and both are key pieces to the team's success for the foreseeable future, along with their new head coach. On Thursday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler appeared on "Get Up" and revealed a bold claim from Odunze: Williams can be the best quarterback in the NFL. "Rome Odunze told me that Caleb Williams can literally be the best quarterback in the NFL," Fowler said before giving his point of view of what he's seen with the Bears so far. "He's far away from that right now, Ben Johnson has been relentless on him with the details. They're just trying to get him to do the basics right now and then they'll work on the off-scripted plays, the mobility, all his strengths, that will come. Chicago Bears, elite quarterback play is an oxymoron. As far as the ability (of Williams), they see it, the players recognize it, they just have to get it out of him. They're treating him like a rookie right now." While Odunze has high hopes for Williams, it's clear that the Bears and the new coaching staff are going through a full rebuild of their young quarterback. Before Williams can approach best quarterback in the NFL territory, the Bears are just looking to get him to fix himself from a lost and disappointing rookie season, and the bad habits he may have picked up along the way.
