Broncos Bet on Ex Clemson Tiger Hoping for One Last Shot at the League
Broncos Bet on Ex Clemson Tiger Hoping for One Last Shot at the League originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Mario Goodrich's journey back to the NFL has taken him from Clemson's championship glory to the league, then to the grind of the UFL — but the former Tiger is once again heading to the big stage. The Denver Broncos are signing the 6-foot, 186-pound cornerback, giving the former Clemson standout another chance to secure a spot in the NFL. Advertisement Goodrich most recently suited up for the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League, where he played through injury and still managed to be one of the most consistent corners in the league. In just seven games (including the playoffs), Goodrich tallied 15 tackles, four pass breakups, and a pair of game-changing forced fumbles—one of which helped seal a comeback win over the Houston Roughnecks. His physical style and 66.3 coverage grade from PFF caught the attention of NFL scouts once again. He saw action in four games with the Eagles, totaling five tackles, and was with the Giants during the 2024 preseason before being released with an injury designation. Advertisement At Clemson, Goodrich developed into a top-tier defensive back, playing in 47 games and winning a national championship as a freshman. He saved his best season for last, earning first-team All-ACC honors and being named MVP of the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl. He finished his career with 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and five interceptions. Now, as he joins a crowded cornerback room in Denver, Goodrich will have to fight for his spot. But if his track record at Clemson and his perseverance through the UFL are any indication, he won't back down from the challenge. Philadelphia Eagles have 12 former players signed to United Football League teams With the NFL season complete and the UFL set to kick off, we're looking at 12 former Philadelphia Eagles who are participating in the spring league With the NFL season now complete and the offseason underway, Philadelphia has one of the most extended lists of players who are getting another shot in the eight-team UFL, which kicks off season kicks off on Friday, March 28, at 8 p.m. ET when FOX Sports debuts FOX UFL Friday – a new night dedicated to UFL action taking place each Friday during the 10-week regular season – with a matchup featuring the St. Louis Battlehawks against the Houston Roughnecks. The league's second season will conclude on Saturday, June 14, when ABC presents the 2025 UFL Championship Game. A combination agreement (the "UFL") is the premier spring football league that resulted from the merger of the XFL and USFL. Russ Brandon, former President and CEO of the XFL, leads the UFL as President and CEO. Former USFL President of Football Operations Daryl Johnston leads football operations. Founded in 2001, the XFL was a collaboration between NBC and WWF (WWE), spearheaded by Vince McMahon. After a hot start, poor ratings ultimately led to the league's lasting just one season. The league returned in 2020, with McMahon again leading the reboot, but it had to close its doors again after COVID-19 shut things down after just five weeks. The league filed for bankruptcy and was forced to sell. A group headed by Dany Garcia, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, bought the league out of bankruptcy for $15 million. The UFL has eight teams in Arlington (TX), Birmingham (AL), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), San Antonio (TX), Memphis (TN), St. Louis (MO), and Washington D.C. With action to begin next weekend, we're looking at 12 former Eagles on UFL rosters.
