Chemung County Sheriff's Office invites local businesses to sign up for emergency contact program

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — Businesses in Chemung County now have the opportunity to proactively help their establishments when it comes to the event of a potential emergency, according to a release from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday. Announced in a release on Wednesday, June 4, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office explained that businesses in Chemung County are invited to sign up for a program that helps county emergency officials get in touch with said places when it comes to a possible emergency. Sign ups open for Firefighter Experience Camp in Corning The key manager, and/or the person responsible for managing critical things at local businesses in Chemung County, has an opportunity to register their establishment's name and contact information with the Chemung County Communications Office. The release said that if people decide to sign up, this would help the county emergency crews contact the person in charge of a business that may have experienced a fire, break-in, or any other emergency. People can access the form on the sheriff's office's website or its app, the release said. People must fill out the 'Business Contact Form' and either mail it to the sheriff's office at 203 William Street, P.O. Box 588, Elmira, NY 14902, or submit it via fax. If people have any additional questions regarding this program and how it works, the release asked that people reach out to Undersheriff Douglas Houper at (607)-737-2987. SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WETM) – A Horseheads woman has been arrested on various charges after an incident that occurred on Sunday in the Town of Southport. Nicole D. Tirgari-White, 36, was arrested on Sunday, May 18, on the charges of harassment in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child, as stated in a release from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. Ithaca woman sentenced more than 10 years in prison for assault of Investigator Theetge Officials say Tirgari-White was arrested on the charges following a disturbance in Southport. Tirgari-White is currently a candidate for a seat on the Horseheads School Board, which will be voted upon on Tuesday, May 20. ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – An Elmira man has been arrested after officials say he failed to update his sex offender registry before the deadline. Gregory S. Scears, 35, was arrested on the charge of failure to notify the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services of a change of information within the required timeframe, a class E felony, as stated in a release from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. Sayre man sentenced up to seven years in prison for repeated sexual assault against a child Officials say Scears was charged with the crime after the Chemung County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division was provided information and evidence from the NYS Division of Parole that Scears, who is a level two sex offender, had failed to update his sex offender registry. Specifically, officials say Scears failed to notify the NYS Sex Offender Registry that he had changed his internet and social media accounts, which is required by NYS Corrections Law. Officials say this offense also violated his conditions of release. Two arrested on animal cruelty, child endangerment charges in Bath Following an investigation into the incident, officials say Scears was arrested on the charge and placed in the Chemung County Jail for violating his conditions of release. A Chemung County man has been charged with rape after an investigation into allegations made by a juvenile. The Chemung County Sheriff's Office charged Warren F. Morrison, 49, of the Town of Ashland, with first-degree rape and said additional charges are expected. On Monday, a female juvenile advised a school resource officer from the sheriff's office civil/community services division that she and other females were being sexually assaulted by Morrison and had been over a number of years, according to the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office criminal investigation division took over the investigation, working in conjunction with Chemung County Child Protective Services and the Chemung County Child Advocacy Center. ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – An Elmira man who is registered as a sex offender in New York State has been arrested after deputies say he failed to notify authorities that he had moved from his registered address. Jordan M. Stehm, 22, was arrested on the charge of failure to report an address change, a class E felony and violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act, as reported by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. Burdett man arrested on rape charge after reported incident involving a minor Deputies say that Stehm was arrested after the sheriff's office received a tip alleging that he had moved from his registered address. After receiving the tip, deputies say that road patrol from the sheriff's office showed up at his address on Lake Road in the Town of Elmira to verify his address as a sex offender. At this time, deputies say that they learned that Stehm was no longer living at that address and hadn't been for an extended period. Following this visit, the investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division, which later determined that Stehm had failed to report any address changes to the sheriff's office or the New York State Sex Offender Registry, which is required by law. After further investigation, deputies say that Stehm was located by investigators in the City of Elmira at an unregistered address. Scam targeted toward registered sex offenders reported by Steuben County Sheriff's Office As a result, Stehm was taken into custody and arrested for failure to report an address change.
