The first police EV in Montgomery County

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The first all-electric police vehicle in Montgomery County was unveiled in Oakwood on Thursday. Oakwood Public Safety Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. It is fully up-fitted to the department's standards. 'The Oakwood Public Safety Department is proud to implement this amazing vehicle into our fleet as we move towards a more sustainable future,' said Oakwood Public Safety Director, Chief Alan Hill. How Do Electric Cars Work? He explained electric vehicles have a smaller carbon footprint and are better for the environment. 'Police vehicles spend a tremendous amount of time idling when on patrol in comparison to other vehicles on the roadway. When considering the electricity used for charging, electric vehicles have a much smaller carbon footprint than gas-powered vehicles. Additionally, being an all-electric vehicle, tailpipe emissions from long periods of idling are eliminated,' said Chief Hill. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Dead: Chevy Blazer, Again

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Once again, the Chevy Blazer is going to be axed from GM's lineup, at least if a recent report is to be believed. That's right, the little crossover that bore the name of an off-road legend, angering many gearheads, might already be heading for that garage in the to GM Authority, the gas-powered Chevy Blazer will be retired along with the Cadillac XT5 and XT6. All three use the same platform. In a move that's baffling many, reportedly the Chevy Blazer EV will continue to be made for this market at a time when electric vehicle popularity is dropping rapidly. Just as weird is the fact this move leaves a gaping hole in GM's model lineup. The Blazer was the final ICE-powered two-row midsize crossover. Perhaps the automaker believes consumers will flock to EV options instead? If not, that lets the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape, and others snatch up market share in that segment. GM hasn't confirmed or denied the claim that the ICE-powered Chevy Blazer is being discontinued. Supposedly, the GM Ramos Arizpe production facility in Mexico, which has been churning out Blazers as well as the XT5 and XT6, is being retooled to make only EVs. There are already some electric models rolling out the door there, including the Chevy Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Cadillac Optiq. As GM Authority points out, while excitement for the new Chevy Blazer was high after it launched in 2019, after 2020 sales have slid rapidly. That's likely factoring into GM's shifting strategy, although it doesn't explain why the automaker would completely abandon a popular and fairly profitable market segment, gas-powered midsize crossovers. Apparently, the ICE Chevy Blazer's end of production only applies to North America. It's also made in China, although the crossover in that market is a little larger and has three rows of seats, so production will continue there. Shock: 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS To Pace The Daytona 500

Read the full story on Backfire News For purists, hearing the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV will pace the Daytona 500 this year is triggering on several levels. Yet Chevrolet is overjoyed at the news, giving it a chance to highlight the all-electric crossover and the fact it's the quickest SS model it's ever the Daytona 500 coming up on February 16, the announcement is getting plenty of reactions, many of them unfavorable. Some on social media are questioning the timing of using an EV to pace a wildly popular NASCAR race, while others question why Chevy couldn't have just used a Corvette instead. The answer is obvious: just as Chevy says in its official announcement about the Blazer EV SS pacing the Daytona 500, the all-new model goes on sale later in the first quarter of 2025. This is expressly to pump up demand and sales for the all-electric performance crossover. But one has to ask if it will even work? Maybe some NASCAR fans will see the Chevy and want to go check it out at a dealership, but it honestly doesn't look all that remarkable. And it's not going to be racing against the stock cars, just performing pace car duties, so its acceleration won't even be showcased. On top of that, putting an EV on the racetrack isn't a horribly popular move. NASCAR fans have worried the sport might be headed in that direction, and the organization has flirted with the idea. However, electric vehicles have a serious problem with range and recharging times, making their ability to rip around Daytona for 500 miles is limited, at best. Even worse is the fact this is a grocery getter, not even a sports coupe. Visions of a future NASCAR race where it's all electric crossovers is going to make many racing fans even more upset. We're not saying that's going to happen, but the visuals with this aren't good. Images via Chevrolet
