Application process for admission to M.Ed courses begins in T.N.

The application process for admission to courses in Tamil Nadu for the 2025-26 academic year has commenced from Monday (August 11, 2025), Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan has announced. It will go on till August 20. Interested candidates may submit their applications on the website The ranking list will be released on August 25 and successful candidates would be required to join respective colleges between August 26 and August 29, according to a press release quoting Dr. Chezhiaan. Classes will commence from September 1. There are a total of 300 seats available in six government colleges of education, the release added.

Minister for Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan said since over 3.5 lakh students have applied for counselling for engineering programmes, a 15% increase in students' admission is expected this year, when compared to previous years. During an informal chat with reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Chezhiaan, while participating at a job fair, said over 3.5 lakh students had applied for the single-window counselling for admission into engineering programmes being offered by government and private engineering colleges across the State, while this number was less than 2 lakh last year. Government schemes Thanks to the introduction of new courses, the rolling out of the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme, the implementation of 7.5% reservation for government school students, and the financial assistance being given to the students pursuing higher education, the number of applicants for engineering admissions had increased, he said. 'Hence, we are expecting a 15% increase in the admission of students in engineering education this year,' the Minister said. Mr. Chezhiaan added that the State government had introduced seven new programmes in engineering colleges to equip students with employable skills, and a team had been constituted to introduce a few more new courses in arts and science and engineering colleges.

The single-window counselling for undergraduate seats in engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University will commence in Tamil Nadu on July 14 for general category, Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan announced on Friday (June 27, 2025) after releasing the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2025 rank list in Chennai. The TNEA 2025 committee will conduct three rounds of counselling for the academic stream and general stream. However, for aspirants from the vocational stream there will be only one round. Candidates may view their ranks at Candidates will get five days, until July 2, to verify and approach the TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC) in case of grievances. Online counselling for special categories including sportspersons (2,446 applicants), differently-abled persons (473 candidates) and wards of ex-servicemen (1,361 applicants) for government school students will be held on July 7 and 8. Meanwhile, counselling for all students under the provisional horizontal reservation for government school students, general stream and vocational stream students will begin on July 14. Three rounds In the first round of academic counselling, 39,145 candidates with a cut-off of 200 to 179 will participate. The last date to confirm acceptance of provisional allotment order to join and move upward, for the first round is July 19. In the second round that will commence on July 26, 25,376 candidates with a cut-off of 178.965 to 143.085 marks will participate. In the final round that begins on August 7, 1,01,588 candidates with a cut-off ranging from 143 to 77.500 will participate. Mr. Chezhiaan said, this year, 2,41,641 candidates of the 2,50,298 who had paid the registration fee had been included in the merit list. This is 41,773 more candidates than last year. This year, 51,004 candidates have applied under the horizontal reservation category, which is 15,149 more than last year. A total of 2,342 candidates were found eligible for vocational stream counselling and 8,657 applications were rejected. Of the 2,41,641 candidates who will participate in the general category counselling 1,32,582 are boys and 1,09,055 girls besides four transpersons. In the vocational stream, one candidate is a transperson. Among the government school students, 524 candidates are in the vocational stream and 46,848 are from the general stream. The counselling will end on August 26. Despite commencing late this year, the counselling will conclude two weeks earlier than last year. In case a candidate from government school does not find their name, they may approach the nearest TFC to rectify their grievance. Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan on Sunday said that the newly announced university in Kumbakonam, named after former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, will start functioning from the 2025–26 academic year. 'The university will start functioning from June this year,' he told reporters in Kumbakonam. Commenting on the ongoing dispute between the State government and Governor R.N. Ravi over the appointment of Vice-Chancellors, Mr. Chezhian reiterated that the Supreme Court had stated that the Governor did not have the authority to appoint VCs. 'The Governor has been indulging in improper actions. Vice-chancellors have acted according to their respective university regulations. The Governor does not have the right to convene such meetings,' he said, commenting on the vice-chancellors boycotting the recent meeting convened by the Governor. Dismissing TVK leader Vijay's recent criticism of the DMK, Mr. Chezhiaan said it would have no impact on the party's prospects. With the AIADMK forced to continue its alliance with the BJP after talks with TVK failed, all other parties in Tamil Nadu were only competing for second place while the DMK's victory remained secure. Mr. Chezhiaan inaugurated two extended bus routes of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Kumbakonam division. The services include Route A49 (Kumbakonam–Kudavasal via Enanallur) and Route 16B (Mayiladuthurai–Thirupanandal via Thiruloki), introduced in response to local demands for improved connectivity.

CHENNAI: Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiaan on Friday announced in the Assembly that a felicitation event will be organised on May 3 for Chief Minister MK Stalin for securing the landmark verdict from Supreme Court against the interference of governors in the functioning of the government. Replying to a discussion on the demands for grants for higher education department, Chezhiaan announced that, on the lines of NIRF, Tamil Nadu will have State Institutional Ranking Framework published by Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education. 'It will help to know the strengths and weaknesses of various institutions in the state and improve their quality,' he said. Chezhiaan said a review committee will be constituted to recommend new courses for government arts and science colleges. To send government college students to foreign universities for a term, MoUs will be signed by the department with universities abroad. 'Fifty students will be taken abroad to study every semester', Chezhiaan said. The minister said Central Institute of Technology, Taramani, will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 100 crore. Unmanned aerial vehicle training centres will be set up in five government polytechnic colleges at a cost of Rs 50 lakh each.
