Popeyes newest menu item is a first for the chicken chain. Here's when to get it

Popeyes is putting a twist on a menu favorite, and it's in a category all its own. Customers can get their first bites of the new 'generously-sized' Popeyes chicken wraps starting Monday, June 2, at participating restaurants nationwide, according to the Miami-based chicken chain. It's the first time Popeyes has offered wraps and marks a new menu category. For $3.99, the 'grab-and-go style' snack is made with a crispy chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese, pickles and customers' choice of sauce, a product description said. It's then rolled in a flour tortilla inspired by Popeyes classic biscuits. Customers can choose from three varieties: ClassicSpicyHoney mustard 'We wanted to create a Chicken Wrap that was undeniably Popeyes,' Chef Amy Alarcon, vice president of culinary innovation at Popeyes, said in a news release. 'Infusing the flavors from our famous biscuit into our wraps was the perfect way to ensure our signature flavors shined through.' The rollout also includes a lineup of three new blueberry beverages: a blueberry lemonade, blueberry sweet tea and blueberry unsweet tea, Popeyes said. Pricing information wasn't immediately available. Chicken is having another moment as rival chains, including McDonald's and Wendy's, have focused on expanding chicken offerings. The former has teased the return of its beloved snack wraps and recently launched McCrispy Strips, its latest run at classic chicken fingers. McDonald's has had similar offerings in the past, including Chicken Selects and its successor, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, along with a variety of chicken sandwiches. In March, Wendy's also announced plans to bring more chicken to its menu 'to provide a modern, craveable options for our customers.' Popeyes chicken wraps are available to order in-store, on the Popeyes app and online for a limited time, though the fast-food chain didn't say for how long. Find your nearest Popeyes here.

McDonald's is extending its late-night hours this summer. Here's what to know

McDonald's is looking to satiate customers' late-night cravings by staying open later this summer, reports say. The fast-food giant said it is extending its late-night hours, offering service until midnight or later at most U.S. locations, USA Today reported, citing a company spokesperson. Non-traditional locations, including malls and airports, are excluded, according to the outlet. Much of the menu will be available during these hours, though offerings will vary based on decisions of individual franchisees, according to Nation's Restaurant News. 'Our fans know there's no better way to end an unforgettable night than by feasting on your favorite McDonald's order,' the company told McClatchy News on May 23 in a statement. 'That's why, as the summer season kicks off, we're excited to offer up more ways for customers to satisfy their late-night cravings with more choices and expanded hours at more restaurants.' To celebrate, McDonald's is giving away 1,000 virtual gift cards for free orders of its new McCrispy Strips on May 24. Fans can enter for a chance to win by posting #DipforMcCrispyStripsGiveaway on their Instagram story and tagging @GoFooji, the restaurant said. McCrispy Strips rolled out on menus this month, marking the first new item to join McDonald's permanent menu in four years, McClatchy News reported. The fast-food giant has served similar offerings in the past, including Chicken Selects and its successor, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders. By expanding its hours, McDonald's is looking to boost sales after a 3.6% drop in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025, marking 'its worst performance since the pandemic,' GlobalData reported. 'McDonald's has a 70-year legacy of innovation, leadership, and proven agility, all of which give us confidence in our ability to navigate even the toughest of market conditions and gain market share,' Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said at the time. The push also comes as McDonald's plans to hire up to 350,000 new workers and serve more customers at its restaurants this summer, the company said May 12. Additionally, the chain said it will add 900 U.S. locations by 2027. Find your nearest McDonald's here.

McDonald's Might Be Discontinuing a Fan-Favorite Menu Item

Krispy Kreme and McDonald's have paused the expansion of their partnership to reassess their rollout strategy. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are currently available in about 2,400 McDonald's locations, mostly in the Midwest but now, no new locations will be added in fans know they have plenty of menu options they can count on. Happy Meals stuffed with collectibles, decadent McFlurry treats, and of course, the classic Big Mac have been around forever—and let's not forget the chain's impressive drink selection. That's all to say, when items are discontinued, it can cause a real uproar. Customers were not pleased when McDonald's removed its Fruit 'n Yogurt Parfait and Fried Apple Pie, not to mention those Chicken Selects. Sometimes, customers are lucky enough to see certain offerings make a comeback, like the Snack Wraps everyone's been anxiously awaiting (due any day now!) and the beloved Selects strips. Then there are items quietly taken away without us even having one last chance to enjoy them. The latest limited-time treat hasn't been around for long and is only available in select locations, but it's part of a promising partnership between Krispy Kreme and McDonald's that's now on pause as the companies reassess their strategy. Krispy Kreme recently stated in its first quarter 2025 financial report, released earlier this month, that it will not be expanding its partnership with McDonald's. The report states that as of March 30, 2025, Krispy Kreme doughnuts are available in 2,400 McDonald's restaurants. However, the company is "reassessing its deployment schedule' with the burger chain and "does not expect to launch in any additional restaurants in the second quarter of 2025." McDonald's and Krispy Kreme started their partnership in 2024 when Mickey D's added Krispy Kreme doughnuts to the menu in Louisville, Kentucky locations. Around that time, the doughnut brand said it had plans to bring its popular confections to McDonald's restaurants nationwide by the end of 2026, giving customers all over the country opportunities to enjoy an Original Glazed Doughnut, the Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles Doughnut, or the Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled Doughnut with their burger and fries. Krispy Kreme stated in its financial report that although it "continues to believe in the long-term opportunity of profitable growth through the U.S. nationwide expansion, including McDonald's," it is withdrawing its prior full-year outlook and will not update it due to the "macroeconomic softness and the uncertainty around the McDonald's deployment schedule." This comes after McDonald's earnings release for the first quarter of 2025, in which the brand reported a 3.6 percent sales drop in the U.S. While we're sad to see this partnership crumble before it really got rolling, it's not all bad news for McDonald's fans looking for something sweet. The home of the Big Mac recently launched its Chocolate Chip Frappé with the help of Hershey, and there's always the McDonald's Cotton Candy Sprite hack built by loyal customers. If nothing else, we can only hope Krispy Kreme and McDonald's find their way back to each other again—nationwide, this time. Read the original article on ALLRECIPES

McDonald's US fans react to new menu item

Published: | Updated: McDonald's fans take their favourite menu items very seriously and won't hesitate to let the fast food giant know when they're unhappy - as they have demonstrated with uproar over a new menu item. The crispy, peppery Chicken Selects are a firm favorite among McDonald's customers, with many declaring them to be 'elite' chicken strips. But while UK customers get to enjoy them any time, those in the US were disappointed when in 2013, the chain discontinued Chicken Selects on the menu across the pond. Recently, McDonald's introduced chicken strips again in the US - but they aren't quite what the American audience had hoped for. On May 5, the fast food giant rolled out McCrispy Strips, described as 'irresistibly craveable chicken strips made with juicy, 100% white meat, coated with crispy golden-brown breading and bursting with a bold, new black pepper flavour'. This new version comes as Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald's, said the demand for chicken strips 'has been remarkable to see across the industry'. Commenting on why it's taken so long to bring chicken strips back to the US menu, she added: 'We took our time, listened to our fans and created a product we knew they would crave.' But many have taken to social media to complain that McCrispy Strips are simply no match for Chicken Selects. The most noticeable difference is the texture of the battered exterior of the chicken strips. While Chicken Selects are beloved for their seasoned, crispy coating which delivers a satisfying crunch, McCrispy Strips have a smoother, much less rugged texture - more akin to outside of a McNugget. When McDonald's announced the new chicken menu item in the US, American customers instantly became excited over the prospect that Chicken Selects may have returned. However, they are now taking to social media to complain about how different McCrispy Strips are compared to Chicken Selects - and they aren't holding back about which they prefer. Even those who thought the McCrispy Strips tasted good admitted that they would have preferred Chicken Selects. 'I just had them today and they're honestly disappointing,' one reviewer said. 'They smelled a lot like the old chicken selects while I drove home with them in the bag, but eating them… yeah, no. 'Just a bland, weirdly breaded, not-at-all crispy chicken strip! I don't understand why they're a permanent addition to the menu. I miss Chicken Selects so, so, so, so, so much!!' Customers also expressed their displeasure at the fast food chain on X, formerly Twitter. 'McDonald's really played in our face talkin' about some damn 'McCrispy Strips'... WE ASKED FOR THE CHICKEN SELECTS,' one person wrote. Another slammed McDonald's for discontinuing Chicken Selects more than a decade ago, only to bring back a different version. 'You took one of the best items off the menu and then had 12 years to come up with a replacement and this is the slop you've put out,' they said. A third quizzed: '[They're] bringing back dinosaurs, direwolves, AND THEY CAN'T BRING BACK CHICKEN SELECTS???' McDonald's has previously introduced a variation of chicken strips to its US menu in the past, in a bid to satisfy customers still upset about the loss of Chicken Selects. In 2017, the retailer added Buttermilk Crispy Tenders to the menu. These looked much more similar to Chicken Selects and were popular among customers - but they were discontinued just three years later due to the COVID pandemic. However, McDonald's is standing by its new McCrispy Strips despite the criticism. Cesar Piña, Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at the chain, said in a press release: 'When we introduce a new menu item like McCrispy Strips, we know we have a big promise to fulfill to meet our customer's expectations. 'From the farms we source from to how food is prepared in our restaurants, bringing new products to our fans requires collaboration across suppliers, franchisees, and company staff. 'We hold ourselves to the highest standard and aim to bring fans nothing less than greatness.'
