McDonald's is extending its late-night hours this summer. Here's what to know
McDonald's is looking to satiate customers' late-night cravings by staying open later this summer, reports say.
The fast-food giant said it is extending its late-night hours, offering service until midnight or later at most U.S. locations, USA Today reported, citing a company spokesperson.
Non-traditional locations, including malls and airports, are excluded, according to the outlet.
Much of the menu will be available during these hours, though offerings will vary based on decisions of individual franchisees, according to Nation's Restaurant News.
'Our fans know there's no better way to end an unforgettable night than by feasting on your favorite McDonald's order,' the company told McClatchy News on May 23 in a statement.
'That's why, as the summer season kicks off, we're excited to offer up more ways for customers to satisfy their late-night cravings with more choices and expanded hours at more restaurants.'
To celebrate, McDonald's is giving away 1,000 virtual gift cards for free orders of its new McCrispy Strips on May 24. Fans can enter for a chance to win by posting #DipforMcCrispyStripsGiveaway on their Instagram story and tagging @GoFooji, the restaurant said.
McCrispy Strips rolled out on menus this month, marking the first new item to join McDonald's permanent menu in four years, McClatchy News reported. The fast-food giant has served similar offerings in the past, including Chicken Selects and its successor, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.
By expanding its hours, McDonald's is looking to boost sales after a 3.6% drop in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025, marking 'its worst performance since the pandemic,' GlobalData reported.
'McDonald's has a 70-year legacy of innovation, leadership, and proven agility, all of which give us confidence in our ability to navigate even the toughest of market conditions and gain market share,' Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said at the time.
The push also comes as McDonald's plans to hire up to 350,000 new workers and serve more customers at its restaurants this summer, the company said May 12.
Additionally, the chain said it will add 900 U.S. locations by 2027.

Sydney Sweeney's New Soap Collab Includes a Unique Ingredient: Her Actual Bathwater.
Sydney Sweeney's New Soap Collab Includes a Unique Ingredient: Her Actual Bathwater. originally appeared on L.A. Mag. Sydney Sweeney is collaborating with men's soap company Dr. Squatch Soap Co. for a limited edition soap made with a special and highly requested ingredient: her own bath is the face of the new bar 'Sydney's Bathwater Bliss,' a soap described by Dr. Squatch as a "perfect combination of the two best places on the planet: The outdoors and Sydney Sweeney's bathtub." With notes of pine, Douglas fir, earthy moss, and a touch of Sydney Sweeney Bathwater–actually listed in the ingredients–the soap will be available starting at 12pm on June 6, selling only 5,000 units at $8 a bar. 'You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad… so we kept it,' Sweeney wrote on an Instagram post referencing a past advertisement she had done with Dr. Squatch. 'Introducing Sydney's Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater.' Dr. Squatch also shared some of their many fan mail requests for extra Sweeney bathwater on Instagram, including requests to use the bathwater to water bonsai trees, for eye drops, and to review the taste. 'When your fans start asking for your bathwater, you can either ignore it, or turn it into a bar of Dr. Squatch soap,' Sweeney said in an NBC release. 'We thrive on ideas that make you laugh,' said John Ludeke, the senior vice president of global marketing for Dr. Squatch, in a company news release. He hopes that the soap can be seen in a positive light, with increased conversations about male hygiene and cleanliness. There is a lot of disbelief surrounding the product. Reactions on social media are skewed, with some users criticizing Sweeney's hypocrisy in terms of her being sexualized by men, and other users supporting the product's ability to get men to shower. Despite the controversy, Sweeney is calling the soap 'weird in the best way' and an 'unforgettable' product. The irony of the product is evident: men who are grossly begging for Sweeney's bathwater definitely need to be cleaned. This story was originally reported by L.A. Mag on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Popular chicken chain shares, massive expansion plan
Some may question if the chicken came before the egg or vice versa, but in this case, chicken is undoubtedly the correct answer. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Today's consumers clearly prefer chicken, and food chains are starting to catch on to this trend, investing in these efforts to prevent their rivals from leaving them behind. Related: Popular chicken chain brings back beloved menu item after 7 years A growing chicken craze has emerged in the food industry, with major players like Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane's, McDonald's (MCD) , and Restaurant Brands International's (QSR) Burger King and Popeyes focusing on launching new chicken-based products to dominate the market and boost sales. However, many weren't expecting an emerging chicken chain to quietly take over clients and successfully get them to consume its chicken rather than sticking with the decades-old giants. TheFounded in a California parking lot in 2017 by a small group of friends, Dave's Hot Chicken is an American fast-casual restaurant popular for its Nashville-style hot chicken. This chicken chain quickly gained popularity among consumers. In only eight years, it has grown to over 270 locations across the U.S., Canada, the UK, and the Middle East, generating around $1 billion in annual sales. Related: Popular fast-food burger chain to open first store in new market Rumors began swirling in February that Dave's Hot Chicken was in talks with Roark Capital to be acquired for around $1 billion, as The Wall Street Journal reported. This business move didn't seem far-fetched since it would align with Dave's Hot Chicken's ambitious expansion plan to reach over 400 restaurants worldwide by the end of 2025. After a few months of speculation, it was revealed that Roark Capital had sealed a $1 billion deal with Dave's Hot Chicken to acquire a majority stake in the chicken chain. Neither party has publicly disclosed financial details about the deal. However, Dave's Hot Chicken's leadership team will continue operating the brand. It will also give it the boost it needs to reach new markets, like Europe and Asia, which it sees great potential in and has wanted to do since opening its first location in the UK last year. Roark Capital is a major player in the food industry and owns popular brands and companies like Arby's, Culver's, Sonic, Dunkin', and Subway. This billionaire deal aims to accelerate Dave's Hot Chicken's growth, and with Roark Capital's extensive portfolio, the chicken chain looks to be in good hands.
