Chicopee Fire Department promotes two officers to new ranks

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It was an exciting day in Chicopee on Wednesday for two members of the Chicopee Fire Department, as a new captain and lieutenant were sworn in and pinned. Nicholas Brown was promoted to the rank of captain, and Gregory Pray to the rank of lieutenant. Both of their families, as well as members from the fire department, were there to watch and celebrate their achievements. Chicopee celebrates Portuguese heritage with flag-raising ceremony 'We're going to have two more excellent officers who have done a great job through this process, and they are going to represent us really well,' said Chicopee Fire Captain Katie Collins-Kalbaugh. 'I'm so proud of my dad for becoming captain, because he has been practicing for this the whole time, and he's been really working for this, and we finally got him to be captain,' Captain Brown's daughter Mia said. 'Just to say, I am very proud of him.' 'I am very happy, because it makes us have happy tears,' said Captain Brown's daughter Olivia. Both the new captain and lieutenant completed the rigorous process, including studying for months, taking the assessment test, and completing an interview. Chicopee crews investigate cause of residential fire on Circle Drive

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Crews were called to a residential fire on Circle Drive in Chicopee Thursday afternoon. Giant pigeons and Campbell's tomato soup can displayed in Springfield Our 22News crews arrived on the scene just around 4:30 p.m., and could see multiple fire crews, as well as an ambulance, and police. Significant damage to the roof and side of the home could be seen with multiple firefighters going in and out of the home. A cat also seemed to be rescued. We have reached out to Chicopee Fire for more information on how the fire started. There is no word on whether anyone was home or injured. Two people have died in Chicopee house fire on Hudson Avenue

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A two-alarm fire early Saturday morning on Hudson Avenue turned deadly when Chicopee firefighters found two deceased occupants of the home. Chicopee Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski said a neighbor's 911 call at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday alerted the department to the fire at 15 Hudson Avenue. Fire crews arriving at the location saw the two-story home in flames on three sides of the building and coming through the windows. City of Westfield comments on hydrant issue during house fire The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, and crews began to put out the flames while protecting nearby homes from potential damage. Chicopee Fire said that controlling the fire took over an hour. Rehab units were also on location to provide aid to firefighters if needed due to frigid temperatures. When firefighters ventured inside the home, two occupants were found dead inside. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death. Chicopee Fire, Police, and the Hampden County District Attorney's Office have offered condolences to the victims' loved ones due to this loss. The origin and cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Chicopee Fire and Police departments, as well as the Massachusetts State Police and State Police assigned to the DA's Office. 22News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
