Plan to turn upper floors of Leeds Road takeaway into 10-bed HMO
PLANS to turn the upper floors of a Leeds Road takeaway into a 10-bed HMO have been submitted to Bradford Council.
Office space above Chikanos, on the junction of Leeds Road and Birksland Street, would be converted into two floors of residential space.
The application, by Umer Akbar, would see five en-suite bedrooms and a kitchen/living space on each floor.
Environmental health officers at Bradford Council have raised concerns about how living above a takeaway on a busy road would impact future residents.
In a response to the application, officers said: 'The proposed application is for a 10-bed HMO which is situated above a food business on Leeds Road. Leeds Road is one of the main gateway routes into Bradford and is subject to a heavy traffic flow.
'The applicant has not provided any information with regard to how the occupants of the dwelling will not be adversely affected by traffic and other environmental noise.
'The applicant needs to provide a noise impact assessment for the development. Until this information is provided, I am unable to support this application.'
A decision on the application is expected later this month.
