Punjab sets new milestone with over 3,000 children's heart surgeries in six months
Listen to article Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's first comprehensive Children's Heart Surgery Programme is in full swing, providing life-saving treatment to young patients, including those from other provinces, Express News reported. Under the Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme, 3,162 successful heart surgeries and interventions have been performed so far. Additionally, 7,436 children from across the country have been registered for treatment. To enhance the programme, foreign paediatric heart surgeons will visit Punjab regularly. A British medical team has already conducted surgeries at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology. The initiative is extending free heart surgeries to children from Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In Punjab's public and private hospitals, the treatment of 316 children from K-P has been arranged; 51 children from Sindh have been registered for surgery; 11 children from Balochistan will undergo free procedures; 158 children from Azad Kashmir are also registered; 30 children from Gilgit-Baltistan will receive surgery. So far, 2,419 surgeries have been performed in public hospitals and 743 in private hospitals under the initiative. The Punjab government is covering all expenses for surgeries and treatment. Before the launch of this programme, hundreds of children lost their lives every year due to limited resources and long waiting lists, leaving families helpless. Maryam emphasised her commitment to children's health, stating: "I cannot bear to see young children in pain. The government will cover all surgery costs. Children have the first right over the state's resources, and every child will be treated as our own."

CM laying groundwork for inclusivity, development
There was something extraordinarily comforting about the way young female students shared heartfelt embraces with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at Honahaar Scholarship events across Punjab. It was a simple gesture, yet it spoke volumes about her commitment to fostering a more inclusive society. In these interactions, Maryam embodies the very essence of empowerment; reaching out to the future leaders of our province with both compassion and ambition. Still, far more phenomenal has been the fact that for the very first time, we have a politician among us who genuinely cares for those under her watch. In her first year as Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz has demonstrated that leadership is not merely about authority; it's about creating sustainable change. Through her numerous initiatives, she has laid the groundwork for a Punjab that prioritises inclusivity, development, and healtha testament to her dedication to a brighter future for all. Under her government, women's health has received due focus through the establishment of specialised clinics. This is particularly significant in a region where such issues have frequently been overlooked. By addressing these long-standing challenges, Maryam has rekindled hope, showing that change is not only possible but already happening. The ripple effects of such initiatives are palpable in the rejuvenated spirit of the youth, especially young women who now see avenues for leadership and opportunity. Maryam Nawaz's performance report, which reflects her achievements over the past year, is a commendable practice and one that should be emulated by all governing bodies. The report outlines a staggering 90 projects launched and a commitment to transparency. This approach sends a clear message: governance must be accountable to the people. Among these initiatives, "Suthra Punjab" serves as a notable example. Initially regarded as a daunting challenge, it has since garnered praise even from political adversaries, highlighting the tangible improvements in cleanliness across the province. The fresh air of optimism that this programme has brought forth is in stark contrast to the previous administration, marking a fundamental shift in the province's trajectory. In the realm of healthcare, Maryam Nawaz has made significant strides. The introduction of free medicines for cancer and heart disease patients provides critical support to those in desperate need. No longer must patients endure long lines in hospitals; now, essential medications arrive at their doorsteps. To further alleviate the healthcare burden, the CM launched the Chief Minister Children's Heart Surgery Programme, resulting in 1,800 successful surgeries within a year and, notably, the elimination of previous waiting lists. Additionally, her innovative Clinics on Wheels and Field Hospitals initiatives have addressed healthcare accessibility in remote areas. Serving over 6.8 million patients, these programs ensure that even the most marginalised communities receive healthcare services, proving that healthcare is not a privilege but a right for every individual in Punjab. The dialysis programmes further underscore Maryam's commitment to holistic health services. The overarching narrative of Maryam Nawaz's inaugural year reveals a leader unafraid of the tough decisions necessary for progress. Her tough stance on encroachments has resonated widely, exemplifying an image of strong governance devoid of political favoritism. No territory is too sacred when it comes to the rule of lawa principle she has steadfastly upheld. Amidst the challenges of a recovering economy and inflation, Maryam has focused on relief measures, introducing the Ramazan Nigehban package (merely weeks after assuming charge) that brought essential goods directly to households. This forward-thinking approach in responding to immediate concerns showcases her understanding of the everyday struggles faced by citizens. Her ambitious infrastructure projects, such as the repair of road networks and the development of sports facilities, speak not just to a desire for progress but also to a vision of a prosperous Punjab. A province where quality education flourishes, as demonstrated by the restarting of the PM Laptop Scheme and the launch of the School Meals Programme, reflects a holistic approach. Maryam Nawaz's first year as Chief Minister can undoubtedly be described as a period of transformative leadership. With a roadmap that includes extensive healthcare investments and educational initiatives, her administration appears poised to usher in a new era of progress in Punjab. Critics may attempt to undermine her leadership, but the accomplishments of her administration stand as a robust rebuttal. Beyond the political rhetoric, Punjab is experiencing tangible improvements, offering a hopeful glimpse into a future where development becomes synonymous with good governance. There's more: My chief minister is a strong advocate of letting the successes speak for themselves. Every ugly character assassination, every round of conspiracy theories and every splash of muddy water adds to her elegance, her calm composure and her razor-sharp focus on governance. The story of her leadership journey is just beginning. In 2024, Punjab made history as the first province with a woman chief minister. In 2029, Pakistan will rewrite history with prime minister Maryam Nawaz's trailblazing leadership.
