Chipotle wants to turn dorm rooms into burrito bowls
Chipotle announced an Urban Outfitters product line and a new loyalty program for college students. The products, geared toward Gen Z, include a Chipotle-themed blanket, lamp, and bean bag chairs. The loyalty program offers students points to redeem toward free meals — or save on guacamole. Chipotle wants you to eat, sleep, and decorate your house like you're one of its restaurants. The fast casual burrito behemoth on Tuesday announced a new loyalty program geared toward Gen Z students and a merchandise line in collaboration with Urban Outfitters. The loyalty program, Chipotle U, allows students to earn points with each purchase. These points can be redeemed for free food or use to waive the guacamole surcharge. The product collection, which features a lamp shaped like a chip bag, bean bag chairs, and a foil throw blanket, goes on sale on Wednesday at select Urban Outfitters in university towns and online at the retailer's website. Items in "A Little Extra" Dorm Collection" range from $16 to $300. In time for the back to school season, Chipotle is unveiling a new college student rewards program and a limited line of dorm room decor. Chipotle Mexican Grill launched Chipotle U Rewards on Aug. 19. College students are eligible to enroll and earn 12 reward points for every $1 spent. This is up from the traditional Chipotle Rewards program, which offers 10 points per $1. As the fall semester starts, Chipotle is offering 1,000 bonus points to each student who enrolls. In addition to the rewards program, Chipotle and Urban Outfitters have partnered to create "A Little Extra" Dorm Collection. Available Aug. 20, the collection features Chipotle-inspired home decor, including a desk lamp that looks like a bag of chips and a burrito throw blanket.
