Growing threat of child trafficking highlighted in Chittoor district
Marking the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, Rural Education and Liberty (REAL), a Chittoor-based NGO, organised a multi-agency meeting at railway station here on Wednesday. The event focused on strengthening child protection measures through coordinated action. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), Women Police, departments of Labour, Women and Child Welfare, and Indian Railways took part in the meeting. REAL director S. Ramarao highlighted the growing threat of child trafficking and called for collaboration among stakeholders. He said that Just Rights for Children, with a network all over the country, comprising 250 NGOs in 418 districts, rescued 360 children in one year from child labour, trafficking, child marriage, and sexual abuse in Chittoor district. The RPF and GRP officials observed that child trafficking also includes forced labour, child marriages, and commercial exploitation. The traffickers frequently use rail routes to transport the children to the clandestine destinations. Railway passengers, vendors, and railway staff also took part in the event, vowing to identify and report trafficking cases.

Police officers' association condemns YSRCP leaders' remarks
The Chittoor District Police Officers' Association, in a statement on Sunday, cautioned political leaders against making allegations against the police personnel. Referring to the comments made by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former Minister Ambati Rambabu during a programme at Bangarupalem recently that 'a rowdy sheet will be opened against an IPS officer if our party comes to power,' the association said such statements were unacceptable in a democratic set-up. The association said that permissions had been granted for an interaction with 500 mango farmers as per his request, yet senior officers' directions were ignored. The association also condemned Chittoor-based YSRCP leader M.C. Vijayananda Reddy's alleged abusive and indecent remarks against Two-Town Circle Inspector Nettikantayya and Sub-Inspector Ramesh Babu while they were trying to control clashes between two groups in Chittoor recently. The association said both the officers had acted lawfully under the orders of senior officials. The allegations that Mr. Nettikantayya had ordered a power-cut in the area during the clashes were false, it said. On suspension of the Personal Security Officer assigned to YSRCP Punganur MLA Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, the association said action had been taken for negligence in VIP security and not for political reasons as was alleged by former Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakara Reddy.

Lift Totapuri mango ban: Siddaramaiah writes to Andhra CM
Bengaluru: The order issued by the Chittoor district administration in Andhra Pradesh banning the purchase of Karnataka's Totapuri Mango has put farmers in Kolar and Chikkaballapur in distress. Following this, the Karnataka government's Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, who intervened, has written a letter to the Andhra Pradesh government, requesting it to lift the ban. Now CM Siddaramaiah himself has come to the rescue of Karnataka's farmers. The Chittoor district administration has written a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu asking him to instruct the district administration to lift the ban imposed on the purchase of Karnataka's Totapuri mango. It is learnt that the Chittoor District Magistrate had issued an order on June 07 prohibiting the entry of Totapuri mangoes from other states into the district. This sudden and unilateral move has caused great distress to the mango growers of Karnataka, especially those who grow Totapuri mangoes in significant quantities in the border areas. These farmers have long been linked to Chittoor-based processing units to sell their produce. The current restriction has disrupted this well-established supply chain and caused significant post-harvest losses, which will directly impact the livelihood of thousands of farmers, Siddaramaiah mentioned in his letter to the Andhra CM. Such measures taken without prior consultation or coordination are against the spirit of the cooperative federal system. I am concerned that this may lead to tension and retaliatory measures. The stakeholders are already expressing their displeasure, which may disrupt the inter-state movement of vegetables and other agricultural commodities, Siddaramaiah mentioned. 'I urge you (Chandrababu Naidu) to intervene in this matter and request you to issue necessary directions to the district authorities to immediately revoke the order of the Chittoor district administration,' Siddaramaiah wrote in the letter. Siddaramaiah urged that this issue should be taken seriously and prompt steps should be taken to restore smooth movement of agricultural produce in the interest of farmers' welfare.

Andhra's unilateral ban on mangoes against spirit of federalism: Siddaramaiah
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Chandrababu Naidu, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, to withdraw the ban on transport of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Chittoor district. The decision to write to Naidu came on Wednesday, a day after mango producers and farmers dumped their produce on streets of Srinivaspura in Kolar. In his letter, Siddaramaiah asked Naidu to intervene in the matter and issue directions to Chittoor district authorities to immediately revoke the ban. Siddaramaiah revealed that the AP govt has stationed multidisciplinary enforcement teams comprising personnel from revenue, police, forest, and marketing departments at inter-state checkposts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to implement the ban. "This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities," Siddaramaiah said. He said farmers in border districts rely heavily on robust links with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce. He expressed concern that the AP decision may lead to avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, with stakeholders already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the inter-state movement of vegetables and agricultural commodities. Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh had also previously written to her AP counterpart K Vijayanand, demanding that the state lift the ban. In her letter, she pointed out that Chittoor's district collector, in an order on June 7, had banned entry of 'Totapuri' mangoes from other states. "There is an apprehension that affected stakeholders in Karnataka may obstruct vegetable inflows from Andhra Pradesh, escalating into unnecessary inter-state tensions, something we must strive to avoid," the letter states. She urged Vijayanand to "immediately intervene" and get the collector to revoke the order. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
