Malaysia's breakout pop star Chloe Qisha is making waves across Europe

MALAYSIA: Malaysian-born pop star Chloe Qisha, might just be the next 'it' girl, according to Malay Mail. She's currently causing a stir on the global stage. It's been less than a year since she first burst onto the scene last July, but this London artist is already turning heads with her captivating music and the way she carries herself. She's been gracing magazine covers and just wrapped up her very first tour across Europe. Interestingly, despite all the buzz she's creating in London, Bandwagon reports that this 26-year-old artist actually started out in Kuala Lumpur. She spent her childhood in Malaysia before heading to the UK to finish her A-Levels. Self-taught pianist and guitarist Since she was sixteen, the self-taught pianist and guitarist, who aspires to become a therapist, has been sharing cover songs on her SoundCloud and YouTube accounts. It sounds like her path to stardom really took off during her third year of studies when a talent scout – an Artist and Repertoire agent from a record label – reached out after seeing her cover videos. Rolling Stone UK noted that it was a year-long process of back-to-back meetings. Chloe then met UK-based producer Rob Milton. This agent is known for working with some pretty big names in the UK music scene, including Holly Humberstone and even The 1975, the group that was banned in Malaysia. Chloe found that connecting with Milton was just what she needed, and the two of them collaborated extensively, co-writing and producing a number of Chloe's songs. It seems like her big break came after she steadily released three singles following her debut last July, culminating in a self-titled EP in November last year. Four-star review And it's not just fans who love her music! NME, a pretty well-known music magazine, gave her Chloe Qisha EP a fantastic four-star review, calling it pure pop with lyrics that are both soulful and clever. Adding to her growing success, her track I Lied, I'm Sorry really hit big time internationally not long after her EP was released. What's really interesting is that her rise might have been significantly helped by a pretty major event: Kelly Clarkson, the American Idol superstar, covered one of her tracks during her Kellyoke Cover on her show. Adding to all the excitement, Chloe recently took to Instagram to share how thrilled she was to be named one of Spotify's Artists to Watch for 2025, especially since her single I Lied, I'm Sorry has been included on one of the platform's official playlists. She even mentioned in her post that it's been a 'wild ride' with that track and her absolute favourite to perform live. Speaking of recognition, she's also been featured on the covers of some pretty major magazines, including Rolling Stone UK and NME , as well as in Elle and Augustman . And it's not just magazine covers – Chloe has been playing a bunch of shows, including her debut performance at the Bermondsey Social Club in London last October, which was a total sell-out, and two of her most recent shows back in March were also completely packed. Her second EP is scheduled for release on May 15. What's even more exciting is that Chloe has been dropping some new tracks – Modern Romance, Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread, and 21st Century Cool Girl – which seem to be building anticipation for her next EP. First European tour Chloe's music is going global! Starting Oct 5, she'll be taking her show on the road for her first European tour, with stops planned in Belgium, the UK, France, and the Netherlands. For those who would like to see her sooner, Chloe is also scheduled to perform at this year's Bergenfest 2025 in Norway and the UK's The Great Escape music festival on May 15. If you're still not sure how Chloe Qisha sounds, imagine an edgier Olivia Rodrigo with a funky pop sound from the 1980s and a vocal style that sounds a little bit like Katy Perry's. Definitely make time to listen to Chloe Qisha's EP, and her music videos offer another great way to experience her artistry.

Chloe Qisha: 6 Fun Facts About Malaysian-Born 'It Girl' Recognised By Kelly Clarkson & Chris Martin

There are only a handful of Malaysian-born stars who have achieved global recognition. Some migrated to other parts of the world to launch their careers, while others set their sights on even bigger ambitions after finding success in their home country. One artist who's been making waves lately is Chloe Qisha, born and raised in Kuala Lumpur before moving to the UK to pursue her A-Levels. At just 26, she's already been dubbed the next 'It Girl,' having achieved major career milestones less than a year after her debut in 2024. Let's take a closer look at this rising star: 1. She's a self-taught musician Learning to play an instrument is challenging enough, but teaching yourself is truly impressive. Chloe Qisha did just that, teaching herself to play both the piano and guitar. In an interview with Bandwagon, she shared that since the age of 16, she has been sharing song covers on SoundCloud and YouTube, where her talent eventually caught the attention of an Artist and Repertoire (A&R) agent from a record label. The agent later reached out to discuss the possibility of signing her as a recording artist. 2. Kelly Clarkson covered one of her songs If your song has been covered by an icon in the music industry, it's safe to say you've made it. Just a few months after the release of her self-titled EP, Chloe Qisha's track 'I Lied, I'm Sorry' became a hit and was even covered by the original American Idol herself, Kelly Clarkson, during a performance on her talk show. 3. Her music helped Coldplay Frontman Chris Martin through depression Being a renowned artist and touring the world can be thrilling, but it can also take a mental toll. During their stop in Hong Kong, Coldplay's lead vocalist, Chris Martin, sat down with fans to discuss some of the practices that have helped him improve his mental health, one of which was listening to Chloe Qisha's music. 'There's a new artist called Chloe Qisha, and her music is making me happy,' he said in the band's TikTok post. Since then, Coldplay fans have gone to check out the KL-born singer who has indirectly helped their favourite artist with his depression. 4. She's the first Malaysian artist to be on the cover of Rolling Stone UK Chloe has been featured in several acclaimed publications, including NME, Elle, and Augustman. Notably, she made history as the first Malaysian-born artist to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone UK earlier in March for their 'Future of Music' series, a major milestone in her career and a proud moment for her fans back home. 5. She was interviewed on BBC Radio 1 It's no easy feat to be interviewed on a national radio station, but Chloe Qisha earned her place when she was invited as a guest on BBC Radio 1. Before the interview, she was given a tour of the station, then sat down to share her journey and the inspiration behind her upcoming EP, which takes a lot of 80s music inspiration. 6. She'll be embarking on her first tour around Europe Chloe Qisha is likely the only Malaysian-born artist to have reached such a milestone. She held several sold-out shows across the UK when she first emerged on the scene, and now, she's set to take things to the next level with a European tour kicking off this October. According to her recent Instagram updates, her show at London's Village Underground has already sold out. 'Speechless!!! And I CANNOT WAIT to play Village Underground and see everyone! We're gonna have the best time xxxxx,' she wrote in the caption.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — She might just be the next 'it' girl — meet the Malaysian-born pop star Chloe Qisha, who is currently making waves on the international scene. The London-based artiste has been gaining attention with her alluring sounds and demeanour, from appearing on the cover of magazines to going on her first European tour — and all of this happened less than a year after her debut back in July 2024. So, who exactly is Chloe Qisha? Chloe, 26, was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, according to Bandwagon, and she moved to the UK to finish her A-Levels. The aspiring therapist, who taught herself to play the piano and guitar, had been posting cover songs on her SoundCloud and YouTube since she was 16 years old. However, her journey to stardom really began during the third year of her studies, when she was contacted by an Artist and Repertoire agent from a label who saw her cover videos. This led to what Rolling Stone UK described as 'a circuit of meetings' that went on for a year. She eventually met UK-based producer Rob Milton, who has worked with some of the UK's top artists, including Holly Humberstone and the now-banned-in-Malaysia band The 1975. The link-up with Milton turned out to be just what Chloe needed, and they went on to work closely together, producing and co-writing several of Chloe's tracks. A couple of months after her EP release, one of her hit singles, I Lied, I'm Sorry, gained new listeners from the other side of the world — thanks to US singer and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, who covered the song during her 'Kellyoke Cover' segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Chloe recently shared her excitement on Instagram after being named one of Spotify's Artists to Watch 2025, celebrating the inclusion of her single I Lied, I'm Sorry on the platform's curated playlist. Popstar Chloe Qisha on hitting milestones at just the right time

When Chloe Qisha was training to be a therapist, she wondered whether her dreams of being a pop star would ever come with one of the biggest artists in the US covering her songs and a spot on the BBC Radio 1 playlist, it's definitely happening for the singer even if, in her words, she's "a little bit late".But, speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Chloe says "late" actually feels like the perfect London-based singer, who was born in Malaysia, has been breaking through with her track 21st Century Cool Girl, which she describes as "an ode to my teenage self", about the insecurities and drama of teen romance. Chloe laughs when she says that success has come after her brain had time to "fully develop". "I think if it happened any earlier in my life I would have messed it up for myself," she says. "I'm looking back at my younger self, who was a bit of a trainwreck of a human being, and just being like, 'You've got this, it's gonna work out, it's going to be great'."It took a lot of finessing over the years but now this is my whole life and I'm just so excited."It feels like what Chloe Qisha was always meant to do." Chloe released her first self-titled EP back in November and has been busy releasing new music confesses her route into music - doing a psychology degree first - was "a little bit backwards".Chloe started writing songs at uni, after posting covers on YouTube inspired her to get deeper into the process."I realised I needed to learn how to write songs if I wanted to do this," she she thinks having the extra time and experience helped to reassure her that music was "100% the right path" for Chloe says her degree in psychology has influenced a lot of her songs, which explore themes of wellbeing."It's like learning to accept yourself, learning to accept the insecurities and everything like that," she says."I'm here as my older self, feeling more set and confident in my mental health," she says. 'It feels surreal' Chloe might have left the textbooks behind as her career takes off, but the learning hasn't stopped, she says, admitting she's still finding out things about being a pop star. She performed at BBC Introducing's Ones To Watch showcase in January and says being on stage means focusing on more than just the music and the also the live performances, filming music videos and adapting to professional choreography as someone better known for "really terrible dad dancing".All that work is worthwhile though, she says, when crowds of fans sing along to her songs. "It's moments like that you just can't replace."It's just so special." Critics, as well as fans, are starting to notice with the likes of Rolling Stone and NME dubbing Chloe as an artist to has more than 700k monthly listeners on Spotify and when she recently released tickets for her first headline show in London it sold out in four she's made a name on the other side of the world too, being spotted by US singer and chat show host Kelly American Idol winner's TV programme features a "Kellyoke" segment where she covers other those songs are by high-profile singers such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and in February she picked Chloe's song I Lied, I'm Sorry, just a couple of months after the track was featured as BBC Introducing's Track of the says her song being performed on the show is something she still hasn't processed."Kelly Clarkson. This almost, fantasy, beautiful, human being," says Chloe."It just feels surreal, I still think it's a prank."It's such an honour, I feel so blessed," she says.
