(Photo: PVL) ZUS Coffee shook off a slow start and held off Choco Mucho to eke out a 22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 15-10 win in the knockout round of the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena. The Thunderbelles turned to Chinnie Arroyo the entire game and veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga in the clutch as they clinched the last quarterfinals ticket, setting up a playoffs duel with PLDT. Arroyo tallied a team-high 21 points while also getting ample help as Gonzaga chipped in 16 markers. AC Miner chimed in with 14 points as Kate Santiago and Fiola Ceballos each chipped in 10 markers. Down two sets and on the brink of elimination, ZUS Coffee dug deep in Set 3 with Santiago and Ceballos providing some energy as the latter sent them to a 16-10 cushion. Arroyo and rookie middle blocker Miner put together the next points to extend their life to a fourth set. Choco Mucho kept it close in the fourth with Isa Molde even tying it at 11-all off a swipe attack, but Arroyo and a number of attack errors from the side of the Flying Titans eventually allowed ZUS to force a fifth set. The Thunderbelles left no room for errors in the deciding frame as they opened the period with a pivotal 4-1 start following a denial by Gonzaga on Molde. Another block, this time from Maika Ortiz, and a Gonzaga opposite kill sent the wards of head coach Jerry Yee to a huge 11-6 cushion. Ceballos then unleashed back-to-back points following a hammer from the left side and a rejection against Jen Villegas' running attempt, bringing her side to a 13-7 lead. Choco Mucho could not shatter the wall of ZUS as Miner put the roof on Molde to clinch the match point before Gonzaga unloaded a down-the-line hit that sealed it for the youthful club. The loss spoiled the 27-point outing from Molde, who also had 14 receptions in the five-set thriller. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

PLDT, Farm Fresh sweep Ilagan leg to lead PVL On Tour group
PLDT and Farm Fresh remained atop their group after defeating Choco Mucho and Petro Gazz, respectively, to complete sweeps of their Ilagan leg assignment in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Sunday. The High Speed Hitters overcame a third set collapse to pull off a 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17 against the struggling Flying Titans while the Foxies stunned the Angels with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 victory at the Capital Arena in Ilagan, Isabela. Five PLDT players reached double-digit scoring as Kim Kianna Dy and Jovie Prado each churned out 15 points with the latter grabbing 13 receptions while Majoy Baron and Kiesha Bedonia chipped in 14 markers each. Mika Reyes chimed in with 10 points as PLDT soared to a 3-0 start in Pool A. With the win, the High Speed Hitters inched closer to a quarterfinals spot. Meanwhile, Farm Fresh leaned on the troika of Trisha Tubu, Jolina Dela Cruz, and Caitlyn Viray in shocking the reigning All-Filipino Conference champions Angels. Tubu top-scored with 15 points while Dela Cruz and Viray each posted 12 markers with the latter displaying her versatility after collecting five digs and six receptions as they improved to 2-1. Farm Fresh clinches breakthrough win in PVL On Tour with upset vs. Choco Mucho
Farm Fresh fought off some late resistance from Choco Mucho to complete a 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 26-24 come-from-behind upset victory in the PVL On Tour on Saturday in Iligan City. The Foxies recovered from a Set 1 hiccup and flaunted their prowess in the succeeding set, including a late fightback in the fourth set, to finally barge into the win column with a 1-1 card. The Flying Titans, meanwhile, slipped to a 1-2 record. Trisha Tubu came alive in the final frame, unleashing a cross-court kill from the opposite before acing her serve to give Farm Fresh a crucial 21-17 cushion over perennial contender Choco Mucho. Jolina Dela Cruz then caught Choco Mucho's defense napping on her off-speed attack, sending Farm Fresh to a 22-18 cushion. But Choco Mucho staged a mighty comeback with the rookie-veteran tandem of Ayesha Juegos and Des Cheng fueling a huge 5-0 run, which was capped by a block from another rookie Jen Villegas against Caitlyn Viray, as the Flying Titans zoomed to a 23-22 lead. Viray, though, was quick to atone for it as the lefty opposite hitter punished her old team and destroyed the wall off Deanna Wong and Villegas to bring her current team to match point, 24-23. Villegas would force another deadlock at 24-all on a quick play, but Viray responded with another hammer before Lorene Toring and Tubu conspired to reject a hit from Mean Mendres. Tubu top-scored with 22 points laced with nine digs while Dela Cruz and Viray chipped in 16 and 10 markers apiece. Isa Molde and Cheng formed a one-two punch for Choco Mucho in the loss with the former collecting 13 points and the latter grabbing 10 markers together 13 digs and nine receptions. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Prized setter Mars Alba parts ways with Choco Mucho
Mars Alba is set to open a new chapter in her career as the versatile setter parted ways with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans after almost two years since joining the club. Choco Mucho announced the development on Monday amid its ongoing campaign in the PVL On Tour and Alba's current stint with Alas Pilipinas Women in the VTV Cup in Vietnam. "Your exceptional playmaking and court smarts will remain significant contributions to the team. You'll always be a Titan. Good luck on your next chapter," Choco Mucho said in a Facebook post. Alba, a former setter for De La Salle University in the UAAP, joined Choco Mucho in January 2024 after her previous club F2 Logistics announced its disbandment. She, alongside libero Bia General and spiker Mean Mendrez, bolstered the Flying Titans following the departures of Denden Lazaro-Revilla, Caitlyn Viray, and Bea De Leon. With Alba's exit, Choco Mucho will still have Deanna Wong as well as rookie Tia Andaya as their main playmakers for the 2025 season. —Bea Micaller/JMB, GMA Integrated News

(Photo: PVL) Lyann De Guzman proved her impressive debut outing was no fluke, steering Nxled to yet another upset with a 25-20, 26-28, 27-25, 25-22 win against Choco Mucho in the PVL On Tour on Sunday in Batangas City. The star rookie poured in 24 points anchored on 20 attacks, three aces, and one block laced with nine digs and 12 receptions as the Chameleons went off to a hot 2-0 start. The Flying Titans, meanwhile, dropped to an even 1-1 card. "It was a collective effort from everyone, whoever is inside alam namin na maaasahan and everyone wanted to win," team captain Chiara Permentilla said in the post-game press conference. A rejection on De Guzman by veteran Choco Mucho spiker Honey Royse Tubino put the Flying Titans in the front seat as they took a slim 22-21 lead in the crucial fourth set. But Aduke Ogunsanya went short on her serve that promoted a 4-0 closing run by Nxled, who was coming off a stunning victory against the reigning All-Filipino Conference champion Petro Gazz yesterday. Another rookie in Mayang Nuique denied Isa Molde in the left side before Permentilla sent the Chameleons to the match point by unleashing a strong kill of her own, 24-22. De Guzman then unloaded an ace to cap off yet another stellar outing from her. Permentilla churned out 19 points on 15 attacks, three blocks, and one ace while Jovelyn Fernandez chipped in 14 markers. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
