Investigation paper on Raub MP, Samka chairman submitted to federal police
KUANTAN: The investigation paper involving Raub member of Parliament Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairman Wilson Chang has been submitted to the federal police legal department for further action. The duo are accused of obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties during the Op Sekat enforcement operation in Kampung Sungai Chalit, Raub, on April 10. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the investigation papers were forwarded to federal police last week. "The federal police legal team is currently reviewing the papers for further action. We will await their feedback before submitting them to the deputy public prosecutor's office," he told reporters at the police logistics complex in Alor Akar today. Earlier, Yahaya met with some 145 scrap material traders from across Pahang during a high-profile policing programme aimed at raising awareness about the possession and sale of telecommunications cables or equipment. On April 25, Yahaya said police were finalising investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both. On April 15, he confirmed that Chow and Chang had been called in for questioning after allegedly preventing civil servants from executing their duties during an enforcement operation against unlicensed durian farms in Kampung Sungai Chalit, Raub.

Pahang cops completing investigation into Raub MP, Samka advisor
KUANTAN: Police are wrapping up investigations into an incident involving Raub member of Parliament Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairman Wilson Chang, who are accused of obstructing public servants from performing their duties in Raub on April 10. Last year, Chow was also investigated for a similar offence alongside 19 others. However, the case was later classified as "No Further Action" (NFA). Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said that the investigation papers will soon be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor's (DPP) office. "They were detained overnight at the Raub police headquarters on April 14 to assist with investigations and were released the following day. We have also recorded statements from several other individuals. "The investigation papers are still with the investigating officer, and we are finalising the details before handing them over to the DPP's office," he said when contacted today. He said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the individuals could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both. On April 15, Yahaya confirmed that Chow and Chang had been summoned for questioning following a police report lodged by the Pahang Enforcement Unit (UPNP) elite team at 3.35pm on April 10. The duo were allegedly involved in preventing civil servants from carrying out their duties during the Op Sekat enforcement operation against unlicensed durian farms in Kampung Sungai Chalit, Raub. On April 13, Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman said Chow, Chong and three others would be called in for questioning.

Malaysian durian farmers clash with authorities over thorny issue of illegal orchards
A stand-off between Malaysian durian farmers and authorities wanting to raze illegal plantations of the fruit, much coveted in China, escalated this week with the arrest of a lawmaker. The trespass claims prompted state ruler Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to issue a rallying cry against such farms saying: 'My blood boils … it is time for us to be firm against those who encroach on Pahang land.' Malaysia's durian exports reached 1.14 billion ringgit (US$258 million) in 2022, driven largely by global top importer, China . Exports surged last year after Malaysia signed a deal with Beijing allowing the shipment of fresh durians. Shipments were previously restricted to frozen products. In the past week alone, authorities in the Raub district of Pahang, a key durian-growing state, have felled over 1,000 trees – many of them of the prized Musang King variety – claiming the farms were illegally established on state land.
