Investigation paper on Raub MP, Samka chairman submitted to federal police

KUANTAN: The investigation paper involving Raub member of Parliament Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairman Wilson Chang has been submitted to the federal police legal department for further action.
The duo are accused of obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties during the Op Sekat enforcement operation in Kampung Sungai Chalit, Raub, on April 10.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the investigation papers were forwarded to federal police last week.
"The federal police legal team is currently reviewing the papers for further action. We will await their feedback before submitting them to the deputy public prosecutor's office," he told reporters at the police logistics complex in Alor Akar today.
Earlier, Yahaya met with some 145 scrap material traders from across Pahang during a high-profile policing programme aimed at raising awareness about the possession and sale of telecommunications cables or equipment.
On April 25, Yahaya said police were finalising investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
On April 15, he confirmed that Chow and Chang had been called in for questioning after allegedly preventing civil servants from executing their duties during an enforcement operation against unlicensed durian farms in Kampung Sungai Chalit, Raub.

Unemployed man pleads guilty to setting fire to MBJB tow truck

JOHOR BARU: An unemployed man pleaded guilty at the Johor Baru Sessions Court to setting fire to a tow truck belonging to Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) last Friday. The accused, Wan Muhammad Nasrul W Ahmad, 31, entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Thalha Bachok @ Embok Mok. According to the charge sheet, he committed mischief by using petrol to set fire to an MBJB tow truck at the vehicle storage depot at Lot 1, Johor Baru Waterfront, on August 15 at about 11.07 am, causing losses of RM24,000. He was charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine. When asked to play the CCTV footage of the incident, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Fatimah Mamu informed the court that it could not be played at that time. The court postponed sentencing to Wednesday (Aug 20) to allow the footage to be submitted and played. Although Siti Fatimah did not offer bail, the court granted bail of RM7,000 with conditions, including monthly police reporting, surrendering his passport, and refraining from disturbing prosecution witnesses. The accused told the court that, if given the chance, he wanted to apologise to MBJB and claimed he had his reasons for the act. The court reminded him he could only appeal against bail, not sentencing. Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Navina also led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. According to case facts, an MBJB enforcement officer at the depot counter heard an explosion, ran outside, and saw the tow truck on fire. CCTV footage allegedly showed the accused pouring petrol and igniting the rear of the truck before a police report was lodged. Police later seized a grey aluminium container and a lighter at the scene. Johor Baru Selatan OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident was believed to have been triggered by the suspect's dissatisfaction after his Perodua Axia was towed a day earlier. The suspect, who had no money to pay the compound, allegedly set the truck on fire, causing an estimated RM10,000 in losses. "Police apprehended the suspect on the same day at 1.06 pm and seized several items, including an aluminium container and a lighter,' he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 17).

Saiffudin: Police bust school kids for sexual exploitation, selling nudes online

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): The Royal Malaysia Police has dismantled a group known as Geng Budak Sekolah (School Kids Gang), allegedly involved in sexual crimes, including a disturbing case of a 12-year-old girl believed to have operated a website to sell explicit photos of herself, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail revealed that the girl jointly managed the website with four of her peers, and the group had also created a WhatsApp group with as many as 762 members. 'Each of them took photos of different parts of their bodies and sold them online. The girl dropped out of school because her income far exceeded that of her parents. 'In this particular case, enforcement action was taken under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, with input and coordination from various other agencies,' he said in reply to Sabri Azit (PN-Jerai) during Question Time. Sabri had wanted to know the government's efforts to address the growing issue of sexual misconduct, as well as 'swinger' crimes involving public servants and university students, and whether existing laws are sufficient to combat online sexual exploitation. Saifuddin explained that swinger activities are tackled under D7 (PDRM' Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division), but the case involving school children falls under D11 (Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division) at Bukit Aman. Addressing the rising trend of so-called 'swinger' crimes, which involve individuals or couples willingly exchanging partners for sexual activity, Saifuddin noted that there are currently five legal provisions to act against such crimes. They are the Penal Code, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, the Film Censorship Act 2002, and various state-level syariah enactments, all of which facilitate joint enforcement between police and local religious authorities. He said that in August 2024, D7 successfully infiltrated and identified a website promoting swinger activities, which then led to a raid on a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur. 'Among those arrested were students from both public and private universities, civil servants, and foreign nationals. Charges have since been filed under the Penal Code, and the case is now in court,' he added. – Bernama child sexual crimes Dewan Rakyat lead Saifuddin Nasution Ismail
