TRSL's foray into wheelset manufacturing timely amid supply disruptions: Official
The company stated that its plan to stabilise production at around 950 to 1,000 wagons per month was hampered over the past two quarters due to a shortage of wheelsets. It attributed the issue to supply constraints at the Rail Wheel Factory in Bangalore, the mandated supplier under railway board contracts. The company's Freight Rolling Stock vertical reported a 5.6 per cent jump in consolidated revenue to Rs 3,610 crore for FY25, the official said adding that the new vertical aligns with the Centre's push for import substitution and self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Kolkata, Jun 10 (PTI) Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) has entered the forged wheel manufacturing business through a joint venture with Ramkrishna Forgings, aiming to ease the country's ongoing shortage of wheelsets which is crucial for train and coach production, an official said on Tuesday. However, the situation is expected to improve from June onwards as production at the factory is likely to normalise, the TRSL official said. 'One of the most significant developments of the year has been our foray into wheel manufacturing. We see this as a national service and a big opportunity. The import dependence must end,' Vice Chairman and Managing Director Umesh Chowdhary told PTI. India has been heavily dependent on imports of forged wheels from countries like China, Ukraine, and Russia. Geopolitical situations like the war in Ukraine, combined with logistical bottlenecks and limited the global supply chain. There had also been disruptions at the mandated supplier under railway board contracts, Rail Wheel Factory in Bangalore. 'This led to production delays in key rail and Metro projects, including the Vande Bharat trains,' Chowdhary said. TRSL said it aims to not only meet domestic demand but also emerge as a global supplier. 'We are not just creating a facility to meet domestic requirements—we are also looking at becoming a global supplier of forged wheels,' Chowdhary said. The company's current order book stands at Rs 24,526 crore, offering over three years of revenue visibility, according to management. 'This backward integration will give us better control over costs, quality and timelines. It's a strategic move,' the official said. The forged wheels unit is expected to come online in the next financial year, initially catering to Indian Railways, Metro corporations and captive consumption. Industry estimates suggest that India requires over two million railway wheels annually. However, domestic production capacity has historically been constrained, leading to significant reliance on imports. Recent initiatives to enhance indigenous manufacturing aim to reduce this dependence and cushion against potential geopolitical supply disruptions. TRSL is also focusing on exports, digitalisation and electric propulsion technology in partnership with ABB and has recently completed deliveries for the Pune Metro project. Man held for identity theft, sending threat msg against PM
1 2 3 4 5 6 Bhagalpur: A 35-year-old man from Bihar's Bhagalpur district was arrested Thursday night for allegedly sending a threatening message against Prime Minister Narendra Modi using a fake social media account of his elderly relative that he had created. The threat — which coincided with PM Modi's two-day visit to Bihar earlier that day, during which he participated in a roadshow in Patna and held a public meeting in Bikramganj — triggered alarm among law enforcement and intelligence agencies. The accused was identified as Sameer Kumar Ranjan of Maheshi village. DSP (law and order) Chandra Bhushan said the threatening message — sent to intelligence officials, who subsequently relayed the information to Bhagalpur Police — was Ranjan's calculated bid to frame his septuagenarian relative, Mantu Chowdhary, also from Maheshi, with whom he had been embroiled in a property dispute. Ranjan had allegedly posed as Chowdhary and used the latter's name and identity to implicate him due to personal grudges between them. He also attempted to deceive both intelligence and police officers about his true identity. After the message was received, intelligence agencies — including the NIA, IB — and Bhagalpur Police were placed on high alert. Bhagalpur SSP Hriday Kant formed an SIT led by DSP Bhushan and including officials from the Divisional Intelligence Unit, Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism School, and Sultanganj Police. The team began a discreet probe to trace the origin of the message. The SIT found that Ranjan, a BCA graduate and computer-literate, had created a fake social media profile of Chowdhary and used that account on another smartphone to send the threatening message — bearing Chowdhary's address and cellphone number — via a virtual private network (VPN). A detailed technical analysis found that Ranjan had accessed that fake account 71 times. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. "Chowdhary said he is illiterate and uses only a basic keypad phone. He claimed Ranjan had trapped him," said SSP Hriday Kant. Ranjan told cops that he had lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic and had been doing odd jobs, including sharecropping. "The accused remains in custody at Sultanganj PS under tight security," the SSP said, adding that technical teams will analyse data from the seized smartphone. An expert said VPNs encrypt data and mask IP addresses, making such threats traceable only through in-depth forensic analysis.

Himadri Chem partners with Sicona for India's first silicon carbon plant
Kolkata: Himadri Speciality Chemical is planning to set up India's first silicon carbon plant soon, following its technology licensing partnership with Sicona , an Australian next-gen battery materials the agreement, Himadri would have the right to access, localise and commercialise Sicona's proprietary silicon-carbon anode technology in India. This technology is widely regarded as one of the most promising advancements in lithium-ion battery performance globally, Himadri Chemicals chairman and MD Anurag Chowdhary 2023, the Kolkata-based company invested Rs 58 crore to acquire a 12.5% stake in Sicona through a wholly owned SPV, Elixir Carbo Private Limited. Now, it has further invested Rs 81 crore in Sicona through compulsory convertible said this technology had advantages like higher mileage. Unlike conventional anode materials, Sicona's SiCx® material, when used in conjunction with traditional graphite (typically in proportions of 5–20%), significantly enhances both energy density (+20%) and charging performance (+40%). This means greater mileage per single charge for electric vehicles and rapid charging times, directly addressing two of the biggest consumer concerns in EV plant was likely to be in Odisha, and the company was now working on the investment, Chowdhary said. He noted that this partnership came at a pivotal moment for both India and the world."As countries seek to localise battery manufacturing and reduce reliance on concentrated supply chains, Himadri's partnership with Sicona places India on the technological frontline of the energy transition. SiCx® is a transformational product that can be seamlessly integrated into existing lithium-ion battery anode formulations, offering a scalable and commercially viable path to significantly improved battery performance," he added.
