Pfizer and 3SBio conclude licensing deal for SSGJ-707
Pfizer has concluded a global licensing agreement with 3SBio, excluding China, which grants it exclusive rights for the development, production and commercialisation of 3SBio's bispecific antibody SSGJ-707. The antibody targets programmed cell death protein 1 and vascular endothelial growth factor and was developed using 3SBio's CLF2 platform. As part of the agreement, which was signed in May 2025, 3SBio will receive $1.25bn, along with a $100m equity investment from Pfizer. The agreement also includes an option for Pfizer to extend its licensing rights to include exclusive development and commercialisation of SSGJ-707 in China, for which Pfizer will pay up to $150m in option payments to 3SBio. Interim Phase II data have shown positive outcomes regarding the efficacy and safety of SSGJ-707 as a single agent for patients with advanced NSCLC. Pfizer intends to manufacture the drug substance for the antibody in Sanford in the US state of North Carolina, and the drug product in Kansas. The clinical development plan for SSGJ-707 will involve trial centres in the US and globally, with a focus on the Phase III worldwide development plan for NSCLC as well as other solid tumours. Pfizer Completes Licensing Agreement with 3SBio
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) announced today the completion of a global, ex-China, licensing agreement with 3SBio, Inc. ( granting Pfizer exclusive rights for the development, manufacturing and commercialization of 3SBio's SSGJ-707, a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and VEGF developed using 3SBio's proprietary CLF2 platform. This agreement solidifies Pfizer at the forefront of innovative cancer research and further enhances the company's robust oncology pipeline. Positive interim Phase 2 results evaluating the safety and efficacy of SSGJ-707 as monotherapy in patients with advanced NSCLC were recently presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. Pfizer plans to manufacture drug substance for SSGJ-707 in Sanford, North Carolina, and drug product in McPherson, Kansas. The clinical development plan for SSGJ-707 moving forward will include trial sites across the U.S. and rest of world with priority to the Phase 3 global development plan for NSCLC and other solid tumors. The first Phase 3 global studies will initiate enrollment in the U.S. Under the terms of the agreement, 3SBio will receive a payment of $1.25 billion. Pfizer Advances Bold Vision for Future of Cancer Care at the ASCO 2025 Annual Meeting
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) will showcase data across its portfolio of potential breakthrough cancer medicines at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO ®) Annual Meeting, taking place May 30 to June 3 in Chicago. Data from more than 60 company-sponsored, investigator-sponsored, and collaborative research abstracts, including 9 oral presentations and 6 rapid oral presentations, will be presented across Pfizer's key tumor areas, including breast, genitourinary, hematologic, and thoracic cancers, as well as colorectal cancer. 'This has already been a significant year for Pfizer's Oncology pipeline, with multiple Phase 3 data readouts and regulatory approvals, and the initiation of pivotal registrational programs across our major tumor areas of focus,' said Chris Boshoff, MD, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer and President, Research & Development, Pfizer. Pfizer will end development of weight-loss pill over fears about its impact to the liver
Drugmaker Pfizer has announced its decision to discontinue the development of its experimental daily pill to treat obesity. The move comes after a patient in a trial suffered a liver injury potentially caused by the oral GLP-1 drug known as danuglipron. The patient, who was not identified, did not experience any symptoms and their injury 'resolved' after they stopped taking the drug. 'While we are disappointed to discontinue the development of danuglipron, we remain committed to evaluating and advancing promising programs in an effort to bring innovative new medicines to patients,' Pfizer's Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Chris Boshoff said in a statement. The Swiss company reviewed all clinical data for danuglipron and recent input for regulators before making their decision. Its statement also suggested the patient's liver enzymes were elevated. That often is indicative of damage to cells in the organ, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Pfizer told CNBC that the trial rapidly increased the dose of the pill over a short span of time. The company had previously scrapped the development of a twice-daily version of the drug in 2023 after trial patients experienced vomiting and nausea. A once-daily pill could have had a competitive edge over other weight loss drugs taken twice a day. Several companies are developing weight loss pills after surging popularity of the shots that target an intestinal hormone called GLP-1. Ozempic and Wegoy are popular injectables related to CLP-1. Oral drugs are also considered to be easier to make than injectables, as well as easier to take. Obesity is a serious and common chronic disease. In the U.S. more than two in five adults have obesity. The investment bank Morgan Stanley said the global market for obesity drugs is expected to reach $105 billion by 2030 — and as high as $144 billion. Comparatively, it noted that sales of branded obesity drugs had totaled $6 billion in 2023. Pfizer said that it would continue development of an experimental oral drug targeting a different hormone. 'Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases including obesity remain important areas of unmet medical need, and we plan to continue applying our global capabilities to advance a pipeline of investigational treatments that have the potential to fill critical gaps in patient care, including continued development of our oral GIPR antagonist candidate and other earlier obesity programs,' he added.
