Free shuttles for Brightline passengers to Miami Grand Prix this weekend
Anyone who loves Formula 1 but hates Miami-area traffic can take Brightline this weekend to its Aventura train station to catch a free ride to the Miami Grand Prix. The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens will run a free shuttle for passengers Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 4 between the Aventura station and the stadium hosting the big race six miles away. The shuttle will deliver passengers between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will bring passengers back from the race from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Passengers on Friday's southbound trains arriving in Aventura at 11:56 a.m., 1:56 p.m. and 2:56 p.m. will be given access to the shuttles. The same goes for southbound passengers arriving Saturday or Sunday at 9:24 a.m., 11:24 a.m. and 1:24 p.m. Shuttles depart the Aventura station 10 minutes after trains arrive, Brightline says. Shuttles return from the stadium one hour before trains depart. The drop-off and pick-up area in the stadium will be in Lot 16 near the Gate 3 pedestrian bridge. Tickets for Palm Beach County passengers seeking the free shuttle rides range from $52 to $74 for one adult. See photos of new self-driving shuttle roaming downtown West Palm Beach
Driverless technology has come to downtown West Palm Beach with the debut of its new self-driving minibus making its way around CityPlace. Boca Raton-based tech company Guident debuted its autonomous bus to pick up passengers along its one-mile route connecting the West Palm Beach Brightline train station and the parking garage on Sapodilla Avenue and Hibiscus Street. The vehicle is almost driverless. A human operator on an Xbox video game controller occupied one seat on its initial run. The Xbox was plugged into the shuttle to manually steer it if its self-driving software didn't stop the bus when people or things suddenly blocked it. Boca Raton plane crash: You can't get onto or off I-95 at Glades Road. Here are alternatives
Glades Road in Boca Raton and Interstate 95 connections to it closed Friday morning due to a small plane crash onto Military Trail near the Boca Raton Airport. South Florida's publicly funded passenger train, Tri-Rail, is also diverting passengers. The Florida Highway Patrol and rescue workers have blocked the stretch of Glades Road going over Interstate 95 — from Airport Road to Renaissance Way — preventing drivers from getting onto the highway, according to Florida 511, which maps closures. Southbound I-95 drivers can't exit at Glades Road. Northbound drivers can exit but only to go east on Glades. Military Trail from Butts Road to Northwest 19th Street has been closed. Boca Raton-area drivers can use I-95's Yamato Road or Palmetto Park Road connections, north and south of Glades Road, respectively, as alternates to the closed road. Tri-Rail is offering a free shuttle connecting passengers between its Boca Raton station off Yamato Road and its Deerfield Beach station because the tracks between those stations have also been closed. FHP has not yet said when roads will reopen. Chris Persaud is the transportation reporter for The Palm Beach Post.
