UK's 'poshest train' coming to Edinburgh with lavish seven course lunch
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Luxury and nostalgia enthusiasts are in for a treat this festive season, with the opportunity to indulge in a lavish seven-course Christmas lunch while speeding along at 70mph aboard one of the world's most opulent trains. The 1930s Pullman-style Northern Belle – formerly part of the legendary Orient Express group – is set to make a grand return to our city this winter, offering a throwback to the golden age of rail travel, complete with a red carpet welcome for passengers as they board. The historic locomotive has two journeys planned in Scotland in August, including a scenic trip to Oban, followed by two extravagant Christmas Lunch excursions later in the year. As patrons sip champagne and nibble on canapes like caviar blinis, the steam train will gracefully traverse the countryside after departing from Glasgow Central on November 29, eventually pulling into Edinburgh Waverley. The organisers have promised: "Settle back into your comfortable armchair, pull one of our Christmas crackers and prepare for a sumptuous seven-course festive feast served with the finest wines.", reports Glasgow Live. To conclude, guests can unwind with a fine cup of Fortnum and Mason tea or a special Northern Belle coffee, complemented by exquisite petits fours. Live musicians will play festive melodies to fill you with Christmas cheer, while their onboard magician will roam from table to table, showcasing his magical talents. They remarked: "It's the ideal way to celebrate Christmas, be you in a couple, with a group of friends and relatives or even just on your own, because you're bound to make new friends. You'd be Christmas crackers to miss it!". While tickets aren't exactly a steal at £395, that price does include champagne and a bottle of wine per couple, and the seven-course meal features freshly prepared canapés such as caviar blinis and, naturally, a cheese board. The Northern Belle is consistently ranked among the world's Top Ten trains, and one of its individually hand-decorated carriages was once part of the Royal Train. It's even whispered to house the late Queen Mother's favourite seat. Actor Bill Nighy has called the train "the Grand Dame of luxury travel" during its appearance on Channel 5's The World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys.
