Samsung is likely to ditch Gemini AI for Perplexity- Details
Samsung and Google's relationship has strengthened over the years for AI support. Since, Galaxy S24 series, both companies joined hands to introduce the Circle to Search features, and other custom features, which make flagship Samsung devices smart and user-friendly. However, with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, Samsung may break ties with Google to join hands with Perplexity. Therefore, Galaxy S26 users may not have Gemini AI features at the tips of their fingertips, but perplexity for cloud-based AI features. Well, Samsung is not the only smartphone brand which is switching from Gemini to Perplexity. Motorola has also reported to partner with the brand for the Razr series. In the midst of Google and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) antitrust case, the tech giant is reported to conduct monopolistic practices to maintain its stronghold in the market by stifling competition. These practices include Google making its services as default choice, making Gemini AI as default AI assistant for phones, and more. Therefore, brands like Motorola and Samsung are reported to join hands with Perplexity. According to a Bloomberg report, Samsung is said to be close to joining hands with the AI-based company to bring Perplexity's AI search technology to upcoming Galaxy models. This partnership could make Perplexity AI the default or prominent AI assistant option for Samsung devices. It was also highlighted that Samsung may integrate Perplexity technology into its Bixby assistant, which could come as an alternative to the Gemini AI assistant. Additionally, Samsung could invest a huge amount in Perplexity, which could make it one of the biggest investors. This also showcases a beneficial win for both companies. Therefore, Samsung may officially say 'bye' to Google for now. However, it should be noted that Samsung has not yet made any official announcement on the partnership. As of now, we expect that the decision may not till the start of 2026. Therefore, we will have to wait a few more months to know what Samsung has planned for its AI-powered features and integration. The Samsung Galaxy S26 could feature a completely different AI assistant — here's what we know
The next generation of Samsung devices could drop Google Gemini as the default AI assistant, as Samsung reportedly comes close to finalizing a deal with Perplexity to include its app on the Galaxy S26. Originally, we had heard that Samsung and the AI startup Perplexity were in talks back in April. However, as revealed in a recent report from Bloomberg, the two companies are apparently close to finalizing a deal with an announcement possibly coming this year. As a result of the deal, the Perplexity app will reportedly come preinstalled on the Galaxy S26, while also integrating the startup's search features into Samsung's default web browser. Bloomberg's sources also claim that the two companies have discussed integrating Perplexity's tech into the Bixby digital assistant. This would be a massive step forward for Perplexity, primarily because shipping as the default AI will massively boost the visibility of the company's assistant. However, this isn't the only work that the company is doing with Samsung. According to the report, both companies were discussing building an AI-based operating system that can tap into functionality from Perplexity and other AI assistants. On top of that, Samsung is reportedly on track to be one of the company's biggest investors, further deepening their relationship beyond the S26's AI features. Both Google and Samsung have worked together to develop some fantastic features over the years. For instance, we saw the release of the fantastic Circle to Search on the Galaxy S24. Google also showed off the improved power of its Gemini AI during the announcement of the Galaxy S25. However, it would seem that Samsung is looking to reduce its reliance on Google and instead follow Apple's lead by working with a mix of different AI developers. This could be an issue for Google as it relies on having its programs pre-installed on devices to extend its reach and secure revenue. Considering Samsung is one of Google's biggest partners, this could be a pretty major disruption, although we imagine Gemini will still be available to those who want it, and that Samsung won't be jumping from the Android operating system any time soon. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. For the time being, we'll need to wait and see what Samsung officially announces. However, the specific details have yet to be finalized, meaning that certain parts could be subject to change before then. We will aim to keep our eyes open for any more information and update you when we know more.

Customers say it is a "perfect" device that is a "good build and quality" and does "everything they need it to do" Whether you're online shopping, browsing the internet for study or work, or simply chatting on instant messenger with friends while enjoying a drink on a Friday night, tablets are a great, convenient way to stay connected. There have been so many iterations of the tablet in recent years that it can be hard knowing which one will do the job, and what ones will be a waste of money. After all, they aren't cheap, and your hard-earned cash is sacred. This week, however, EE has unveiled a huge £150 saving on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE that might help you make your decision. The tech giant claims the Samsung device's price is the "lowest seen on the UK market to date". The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE is the latest EE Tech Drop - a new money-saving deal for millions in the UK - and is available for only £349 for a limited period – providing a saving of £150. Available only through the EE App, a limited amount of Galaxy Tab S10 FE's will be offered for just £349 (RRP £499), marking its lowest UK price to date and offering customers an impressive £150 saving. Launched earlier this year, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE key features include Circle to Search with Google to help you find missing items quickly, pre-loaded creative apps like Clip Studio Paint and Goodnotes, plus the S Pen for a pen-to-paper feel for the imaginative among us who like to scribble their thoughts and ideas down. The powerful Exynos 1580 processor makes for smoother streaming, browsing, and gaming, while the tablet's thin and light design means it's ultra-portable, and IP68 dust and water resistance protects against spills and splashes. What's more, up to 2TB microSD card expansion gives you more storage for family photos, videos and important files. If you want to shop around before committing, the Samsung website offers the device at its retail price of £499.00, although this is down from its previous price of £599, making for a saving of £100. Alternatively, Amazon has the product down nearly 20 per cent at £499 on its site. There are no reviews on the EE website as of yet, but on Amazon, it has earned a stellar 4.6 out of 5 rating. One satisfied customer wrote: "I'm very pleased with this tablet. It does everything I need it to, and much more." Another gushed: "Love this tablet, to me it's perfect." A third agreed: "Good build and quality. Very happy especially having the Samsung keyboard." Another was taken with the device but did have a small complaint. "I purchased to replace an older model for my gaming. Plays games lovely. I'm happy with it. "Only niggle, I really don't like a lot of the software installed on it, I'd rather it came with nothing except play store/ chrome, and then you download what you want." Google to update Circle to Search with full-screen visual search: Report
Google is rolling out a notable upgrade to its Circle to Search (CtS) feature on Android, aimed at making searches more relevant by combining visual context with text input. According to 9To5Google, the feature will now automatically attach a full screenshot of the user's display when a Google Search is initiated within the CtS interface—enabling more contextual responses. The update is currently in beta testing and is expected to roll out widely in the coming weeks. When the feature first becomes available, users will see a prompt titled 'Search using your whole screen' explaining the update. Circle to Search: What's New According to the report, Google has now integrated text search with screen-wide visual analysis. When a user taps the search bar within the Circle to Search interface, a screenshot of the entire screen is automatically attached. This allows Google to analyse on-screen content and offer more tailored search results—whether it's identifying an object, summarising a paragraph, or answering a question based on an image. This new system enhances the original concept of Circle to Search, which allowed users to interactively circle or tap elements on their screen to trigger a Google Search without leaving the app they were in. Now, instead of requiring manual interaction with the screen, users can simply tap the search field to get full-screen contextual results, with Google treating the query as a question about the current screen—essentially, 'Ask about this image.' How It Works When Circle to Search is activated and a user types in a query, the system now automatically includes a screenshot of the screen in the search box. If users prefer to conduct a general text-only search without context, they can tap the attached image twice to remove it and proceed as before. This shift makes context-aware searches easier and more intuitive—ideal for asking about content within apps, articles, videos, or images—without needing to highlight anything manually. Users can still interact with screen elements directly, but now they also have the option to use full-screen analysis as the default behaviour.

Google's AI search numbers are growing, and that's by design
Google started testing AI-summarized results in Google Search, AI Overviews, two years ago, and continues to expand the feature to new regions and languages. By the company's estimation, it's been a big success. AI Overviews is now used by more than 1.5 billion users monthly across over 100 countries. AI Overviews compiles results from around the web to answer certain questions. When you search for something like "What is generative AI?" AI Overviews will show AI-generated text at the top of the Google Search results page. While the feature has dampened traffic to some publishers, Google sees it and other AI-powered search capabilities as potentially meaningful revenue drivers and ways to boost engagement on Search. Last October, the company launched ads in AI Overviews. More recently, it started testing AI Mode, which lets users ask complex questions and follow-ups in the flow of Google Search. The latter is Google's attempt to take on chat-based search interfaces like ChatGPT search and Perplexity. During its Q1 2025 earnings call on Thursday, Google highlighted the growth of its other AI-based search products as well, including Circle to Search. Circle to Search, which lets you highlight something on your smartphone's screen and ask questions about it, is now available on more than 250 million devices, Google said — up from around 200 million devices as of late last year. Circle to Search usage rose close to 40% quarter-over-quarter, according to the company. Google also noted in its call that visual searches on its platforms are growing at a steady clip. According to CEO Sundar Pichai, searches through Google Lens, Google's multimodal AI-powered search technology, have increased by 5 billion since October. The number of people shopping on Lens was up over 10% in Q1, meanwhile. The growth comes amid intense regulatory scrutiny of Google's search practices. The U.S. Department of Justice has been pressuring Google to spin off Chrome after the court found that the tech giant had an illegal online search monopoly. A federal judge has also ruled that Google has an adtech monopoly, opening the door to a potential breakup. This article originally appeared on TechCrunch at Sign in to access your portfolio
