Tesco brings back nostaglic 90s beer to stores after being discontinued over 20 years ago
This extremely popular bevy was well known for its bright red and yellow logo with two large D's. For those wanting to reminisce about the 90s, Brits can now do so with a cool drink in the garden this summer as Tesco has brought back a nostalgic beer that was extremely popular over 30 years ago. Two decades on since it was discontinued, the supermarket giant has brought Double Diamond back to UK stores. While the nostalgic drink returned to pubs last year as a pale ale, shoppers will now be able to pick up a pack of four 440ml bottles from Tesco for £5.75, or for £5 if shoppers are a clubcard member. First brewed in 1876 as an India Pale Ale, the popular 90s drink was widely recognised for its bright red and yellow with two large D's. Many people also memorised its famous slogan: "A Double Diamond works wonders." At its peak, over 50million pints of Double Diamond were sold in a single year, reports the Mirror. However, its popularity soon came to an end as the beer was discontinued in 2003. Tesco's version of Double Diamond has an ABV of 3.8 per cent and is made with a new recipe that features Citra, Colombus and Mosaic hops. Jamie Allsopp, re-founder of Allsopp and Sons, said: "Double Diamond is our A-list star. This sessionable Pale Ale is the next iteration of Double Diamond and we hope will find a place in the affections of new drinkers, as well as those that haven't tasted it in 30 years." Double Diamond made its return to the UK last year, with 12 pubs currently selling the pale ale. Unfortunately none of these establishments are in Scotland, but with Double Diamond returning to Tesco stores, Scots will once again have the chance to indulge in the beer. Allsopp and Sons announced the return of Double Diamond last year through their Instagram. With a picture that read "Only here for the beer", the caption said: "It's back, and it still works wonders! "After months of research and trialling recipes to make it perfect, we've relaunched Double Diamond. Revived as a 3.8% pale ale that drinks like a lager, it's a delicious, easy-going, sessionable draught beer, coming very soon to your favourite pubs!" Many fans raved in the comments, with one person writing: "Had some today absolutely delicious !!" Another Instagram user added: "I still remember the jingle!" A third commenter went as far as to quote the jingle, saying: "Double Diamond works wonders, works wonders, so drink one today." In other beer news, Manchester-based brewery Marble Beer has recently increased the alcohol level of their flagship pale ale following various complaints from customers. After new tax rules were introduced for alcohol products, the brewery decided to slash their alcohol by volume (ABV) from 3.9 per cent to 3.4 per cent. However, following grumbles from customers, Marble has now confirmed it has changed its mind and that their beer will go back to its original 3.9 per cent. The beer is available in cans, cask and keg formats. Since August 2023, how drinks in the UK are taxed has changed. Instead of being based on the categories of wine, beer, spirits and ciders, alcoholic beverages are now taxed based on their strength. This means drinks with an ABV below 3.5 per cent are taxed at a lower rate. As a result of this change, Marble wasn't the only brewery who decided to lower the alcohol content in some of its products this year. Originally, Grolsch Premium Pilsner had an ABV of five per cent. However, after its relaunch in 2020, it was slashed to four per cent by its parent firm Asahi. Now with the new drink tax, the premium pilsner is now down to 3.4 per cent to fit in with the lower tax rate. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Marion County brewer makes beer to support ALS research
MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — Short Story Brewing and construction company March-Westing teamed up this May to brew a beer while making a difference for West Virginian ALS patients. Together, March-Westin Project Manager Steve Raymond and Short Story Head Brewer Cody Higinbotham came up with the idea for 'Topped Off,' a double dry-hopped IPA using Citra and Galaxy hops that comes in at 6.5% ABV. 'When [March-Westin] came to us, man, we knew we wanted to do it,' Higinbotham said. 'Me and Steve, we've known each other for a while, and once he got a hold of me it was lights out, we knew we were gonna do it.' March-Westin's owner, Phil Wesser, is one of about 30,000 ALS patients living in the United States. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) affects a body's nerve cells, particularly in the brain and spine, and causes muscles to weaken over time and can even lead to paralysis, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Every pour or can sale of the Topped Off IPA will go toward the West Virginia chapter of the ALS Association, which provides assistance to ALS patients in the state. EXCLUSIVE: An up close look at the Green Bank Telescope 'Not only is it a great cause for raising funds for ALS, but it's also a really good tasting beer,' Raymond said. ' [We're] super proud about how it turned out, Short Story did a phenomenal job in brewing it with us, and, at the end of the day, it's certainly worth a try to support a local cause, and you're supporting a local business.' Right now, Topped Off can be found at all four Short Story Brewing locations, and a small number of cans are still available in the Westover Taphouse near Morgantown. You can also donate to the ALS Association directly here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Nostalgic beer from the 90s returns to UK supermarkets after 30-year hiatus
Known for its bright red and yellow logo with two large Ds, Double Diamond was first brewed in 1876 as an India Pale Ale and was extremely popular in the 90s A nostalgic beer from the 90s has made a big return to UK stores - and is available to buy in Tesco. Double Diamond returned to pubs last year as a pale ale, but now Tesco is selling packs of four 440ml bottles for £5.75, or £5 with a Clubcard. Known for its bright red and yellow logo with two large Ds, Double Diamond was first brewed in 1876 as an India Pale Ale and was extremely popular in the 90s, with more than 50 million pints being sold in a single year at its peak. You may also remember it from its famous slogan: "A Double Diamond works wonders." But sadly as its popularity waned, Double Diamond was discontinued in the 2000s. The version of Double Diamond in Tesco has an ABV of 3.8% and is made with a new recipe featuring Citra, Columbus and Mosaic hops. Jamie Allsopp, re-founder of Allsopp & Sons, said: "Double Diamond is our A-list star. This sessionable Pale Ale is the next iteration of Double Diamond and we hope will find a place in the affections of new drinkers, as well as those that haven't tasted it in 30 years." Double Diamond is currently available at 12 pubs across the UK with plans to expand it to more locations. In a social media post published on the Allsopp & Sons Instagram page last year, announcing the return of Double Diamond, one person said: "Had some today absolutely delicious !!" Another said: "I still remember the jingle!" A third person, quoting another Double Diamond jingle, said: "Double Diamond works wonders, works wonders, so drink one today." It comes after Manchester-based brewery Marble Beer increased the alcohol level on its flagship pale ale following complaints from customers. Marble had slashed the alcohol by volume (ABV) from 3.9% to 3.4% after new tax rules were introduced for alcohol products. However, Marble has now confirmed it has U-turned on this decision, with the beer going back up to 3.9%. The beer is available in cask and keg formats and also in cans. In the UK, drinks are now taxed based on their strength, rather than the previous categories of wine, beer, spirits, and ciders. This system came into effect in August 2023. Alcoholic drinks with an ABV below 3.5% are taxed at a lower rate. Marble is not the only brewery to lower the alcohol content of some of its products this year. Grolsch Premium Pilsner had a higher ABV of 5% up until its relaunch in 2020 when it was slashed to 4% by parent firm Asahi. It has now been slashed again to 3.4%.

PSA: You need to update this 3DS emulator to avoid a security risk
Andy Walker / Android Authority TL;DR Azahar 3DS emulator released a minor update that fixes a security flaw in the RPC server setting. Previously, other users on your network could read and write data to the emulated application's memory. Online capabilities added in recent updates make the feature more risky than before. Nintendo 3DS emulation is better than ever thanks to the merging of Lime3DS and PabloMK7's Citra forks into the new Azahar emulator, but if you have the emulator installed on your device you need to update it right away. Previous versions of the app have the RPC server enabled by default, which can be useful for external game displays or integrations with streaming tools. However, it also poses a risk, since other devices on your local network can read from and write to the emulated application's memory. There was no option to turn it off in settings. This feature has existed since the days of Citra, but with all the updates made to the original code since it was shut down in the wake of the Yuzu case, new risks have emerged. PabloMK7 points specifically to 'online functionality and account login support' and states that the team believes it's 'no longer ideal to have the RPC server enabled by default' in a post on Discord. Find the full text of the post below. As a result, the team has released update 2121.2, which turns the RPC server off by default and adds a toggle to turn it back on. There are no known instances of the feature being used maliciously in the wild, but it's worth updating right away. The update has a few other minor fixes across platforms, but nothing that will affect performance. You can download the latest version from the official GitHub page for all platforms. The update has also been pushed to the Google Play Store version to make the process even easier on Android devices. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Here's Why Athletic Brewing Co., Is Crushing It In The NA Beer Space
In the ever-expanding category of zero-proof beverages, this forward-thinking craft brew operation based in Stratford, Ct., takes its mission seriously while also having lots of fun. Its latest release of IPAs should give sober hopheads a new reason to cheer. While other breweries, large and small, make non-alcoholic beer as a side project, the founders of Athletic – John Walker and Bill Shufelt – were determined to make it the singular focus of their efforts. When Athletic Brewing launched more than seven years ago, NA beer was all they made. Still is. One way Athletic stands apart is its constant push to innovate. What began as the quest to produce a really tasty IPA has gone in so many different directions. 'We're always trying new iterations, testing them internally and rolling them out to our club members," Walker, the head brewer and COO, said in a recent phone interview. Those selections that fly might end up on the shelves in retailers around the country and across the globe, while some could be part of a select release to Athletic Club members who sign on to receive regular shipments. The latest batch includes a hazy IPA that's got a whole lot of character and a golden-style that's had the gluten naturally removed. Here are the official descriptions of some of the newbies: Athletic Brewing Run Wild: A blend of five Northwest hops and ultimate sessionable IPA, approachable bitterness and balanced malt body, only 65 calories Athletic Brewing Free Wave: Hoppy hazy IPA, featuring Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic hops, smooth, and highly aromatic of tangerine, grapefruit, pine, and florals Athletic Brewing Upside Dawn: Classic craft Golden style that's clean, balanced, and light-bodied, brewed with premium malts and American hops, crafted to remove gluten. Seasonal spring and summer offerings shine a light on fruit-infused beverages such as the just-launched Mango Sour. And, yes, real coffee beans are used in the making of First Ride, a caffeinated sipper that's the best kind of kick start to the day. There's also a clever collab with country singer-songwriter Walker Hayes, a pale ale named for one of his biggest hits, Fancy Like. Bravo! 'We've got five full-time beers out there and at any time, we might be playing with 40 different recipes,' Walker said. To handle the dramatic increase in demand, Athletic opened a second production facility in San Diego. Athletic Brewing also stands out because of its efforts to do meaningful community projects around trail restoration in its Two for the Trails initiative. The Certified B Corp company has committed to donate $2 million a year to rehabbing trails, while the Athletic team also volunteers to support these efforts across the country. (Applications for the next round of grants will be available this summer.) And, of course, there's a podcast. This compelling listening opportunity features a lineup of athletes and tastemakers – hello, Russell Winfield, pro snowboarder and, in another segment, Amanda Hesser from Food52 – hosted by Mason Gravely. When looking for an NA beer at your favorite bar, the go-to options is increasingly moving to a selection from Athletic. More than 800 of the top taphouses in the country now feature this food-friendly bev. Some standouts include: Uptown Hophouse in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood. Near Climate Pledge Arena, this popular spot serves outstanding Philly-style pretzels along with an all-star lineup of hot dogs. Nightshift Brewery on Boston's Lovejoy Wharf is beloved for its award-winning pizza and sports-loving vibe. Mike Hess Brewing in San Diego's North Park neighborhood is one of Athletic's biggest fans. The Mike Hess faithful love the kid-friendly, dog-friendly, dart-friendly space that's home to a rotating slate of food trucks. The Bronx Brewery has partnered up with a genius empanada entrepreneur called Empanology at it flagship location. Oh, wow, a truffle shrimp empanada sounds like the perfect partner for the Athletic IPA.
