Paddy worth crores sent to mills lacking quality machines

Wanaparthy: Even as the government is keeping a strict vigilance on paddy procurement and supply, the Civil Supplies Department in Wanaparthy has allegedly allocated paddy to several rice mills lacking mandatory Satex and FRK machines; the equipment essential for rice quality inspection and fortification. Reportedly, out of the 74 mills that received paddy allocations during the current Yasangi (Rabi) season, nearly half of the raw rice mills are functioning without the required machines. The government has mandated that every rice mill must be equipped with a Satex machine to check grain quality and an FRK machine to meet nutritional guidelines. Shockingly, allocations have allegedly been made without verifying the operational status of the mills or ensuring the presence of storage space, electricity, or functioning machinery. Inspections have reportedly been bypassed, with officials relying on incomplete or manipulated inspection reports. In Wanaparthy mandal alone, a raw rice mill without a Satex machine was allotted 3,000 metric tonnes of paddy. So far, it has received 5,800 bags of fine variety and 3,500 bags of coarse variety paddy, with another 65,700 bags reportedly in the pipeline. Officials claim the mill owner submitted a declaration promising to install the Satex machine within two months. At procurement godowns, technical assistants are expected to certify the rice quality before approval. However, serious questions are being raised about how paddy from unqualified mills is passing quality checks. When contacted, District Supply Officer Kashi Vishwanatham admitted that 15–20 mills are operating without the mandated machines but have been told to install them. Additional Collector (Revenue) Venkateswarlu stated that only previously approved mills are being allotted paddy and that no new mills are receiving allocations.

24,795 fair price shops begin distribution of commodities in Andhra Pradesh

Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar on Sunday claimed that an annual expenditure of ₹385 crore could be saved by reviving the fair price shops under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Manohar launched the distribution of commodities through fair price shops in Pithapuram town in Kakinada district, marking the revival of the fair price shops across the State on Sunday. 'The distribution of commodities has kicked-started at 24,795 fair price shops of the total 29,761 shops on Sunday. As many as 1.46 crore families can get their ration from any fair price shop across the State,' said Mr. Manohar. The Civil Supplies Department will deliver the commodities at the doorstep of 15.6 lakh elderly people and the physically-challenged before the 5th of every month. The fair price shops will have to be open from 1st to to 15th of every month. 'All the fair price shops will soon be brought under the vigil of the CC camera surveillance system and QR code will be made available at the shops for the beneficiaries to register complaints,' he said. Civil Supplies Department Commissioner Sourabh Gaur, Kakinada district Collector S. Shan Mohan, erstwhile East Godavari District Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Tummala Ramaswamy, Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji, and Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Thota Sudheer were among those present.

Steps taken for smooth Fair Price shop services in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: With all the arrangements completed for the resumption of ration distribution through Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the State from June 1, the traditional public distribution model is set to make a comeback and end the reign of the Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs). The Civil Supplies Department has conducted successful trial runs and service camps to ensure dealers and infrastructure are fully equipped. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, accompanied by Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, inspected the trial run and reviewed preparedness for the rollout. This strategic shift follows growing dissatisfaction with the MDU system due to irregular deliveries, technical glitches, and significant operational costs, nearly Rs 385 crore annually. Beneficiaries often faced difficulties locating MDU vehicles, resulting in missed rations and inconvenience, particularly in rural and low-connectivity areas. The reinstated FPS model is designed to be more accessible and accountable. Ration shops will now operate daily, including Sundays, from 8 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 8 pm, with distribution scheduled between the 1st and 15th of each month. To enhance convenience and equity, the government has arranged for doorstep delivery of rations between June 1 and 5 to senior citizens above 65 years, persons with disabilities, and elderly couples. Beneficiaries who have relocated to other areas can avail themselves of rations from any FPS under the portability system.

T'gana govt procured 64.5 lakh tons of paddy during rabi season: CM

Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the state government has procured 64.5 lakh tonnes of paddy till date during this rabi season as against 42 lakh tonnes during the same season last year. A statement from the CMO said 90 per cent of paddy procurement was completed and government credited the payments to the farmers within 48 hours of paddy procurement and has already paid ₹12,184 crore this season. Reddy, who held a video conference with ministers and district collectors, said Telangana achieved a new record of the highest yield of 2.75 crore tonnes of paddy this year and congratulated the Agriculture Department and Civil Supplies Department for registering a big success in the paddy cultivation as well as procurement . In view of 15-day advancement of the southwest monsoon, he instructed the district collectors to prepare an action plan and work out accordingly in the procurement of paddy in some places. Taking serious note of the farmers' woes during the procurement, the chief minister assured that the government will purchase all paddy stockpiled in the market yards, the statement said. Observing that early onset of monsoon created trouble in the paddy procurement, the chief minister said that 21.50 lakh tonnes of more paddy has been purchased in the current season and another 4.50 lakh tonnes of paddy is only left with the farmers. The collectors are instructed to purchase paddy without any delay and difficulties to the farmers, he said. In the wake of protests in some parts of the state, Reddy asked the authorities to conduct field visits and address the issues on the spot. "Such small incidents are getting a lot of publicity and politically motivated protests are taking place in some areas," he said, adding that it all happened because the government is not focusing on a campaign on successful paddy procurement. He also gave specific instructions to the authorities to file cases against those who deliberately spread malicious propaganda. As the monsoon arrived early and the state already received 29 per cent excess rainfall this time, Reddy ordered the Agriculture Department officials to be vigilant and ensure the adequate availability of seeds and fertilizers in all districts. The district collectors are asked to monitor the availability of seeds and fertilizers regularly and ensure buffer stocks, if required, he said. On the Bhu Bharati portal, a comprehensive land records management system, Reddy said Bhu Bharati is already being successfully implemented in selected mandals and it will come into force throughout the state soon. On Indiramma houses, he ordered the officials to finalise the beneficiaries list by May end. He also directed that the State Formation Day be celebrated in all the districts on June 2 and instructed the ministers and collectors to submit a complete report on all these issues district-wise by June 1.

Ration Cards Made Easier In Andhra Pradesh: New Rules For Newlyweds Explained

Last Updated: Andhra Pradesh ration card rules: State government removes marriage certificate requirement for new ration cards, making it easier for newlyweds and families to apply In a notable move benefiting ration card applicants, the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has announced that new ration cards can now be issued without requiring a marriage certificate. Applications are currently being accepted from eligible individuals. This decision is expected to bring relief to many, as ration cards serve as a standard for numerous welfare programmes. A ration card, much like an Aadhaar card, is essential for availing benefits from government schemes. It also allows families to access subsidised goods, such as free rice and cheaper items like sugar and dal. As a result, obtaining a ration card has always been a priority for many households. In a recent announcement, Chittoor District's Civil Supplies Department Officer, Sankaran, revealed a key update that will ease the application process. Previously, a marriage certificate was required for newly married individuals to apply for a new ration card. However, due to numerous complaints about the difficulties this caused, the state government has decided to remove this requirement. Sankaran explained that there has been a significant influx of applications for new ration cards, with many people facing challenges due to the marriage certificate mandate. In response to requests from various quarters, the government has decided that proof of marriage will no longer be a mandatory requirement. Applicants can now submit any valid proof of marriage when applying for a new ration card. This decision is expected to make the application process much smoother, especially for newly married couples who were previously hindered by the need for additional documentation. Over the last 10 days alone, Chittoor District has received 13,550 applications, with a large number of requests for new cards, adding new members' names to existing ration cards, and dividing cards for individual family members. This update is expected to significantly improve access to government benefits for many, making the process of obtaining a ration card more accessible for all eligible individuals. As the number of applications continues to rise, the government is keen to ensure that the issuance of new ration cards proceeds smoothly, providing much-needed relief to families across the state of Andhra Pradesh.
