I started taking weight loss jabs for holiday but ended up in hospital after brutal side effect
A MUM has claimed she almost died when the skinny jabs she used to fit into her holiday clothes left her suffering serious side effects and caused her to collapse in front of her kids. Claire Reid, 49, began using the GLP-1-class weight loss injection in March after seeing others have success with it. 4 4 The mum-of-two was 'fed up' of not fitting in her clothes and wanted to lose weight for her upcoming holiday in Dubai with her daughter. Claire paid around £200 every month for the jab that she purchased from a reputable online pharmacy, claiming she only had to fill out a questionnaire to be given the drug. The family of drugs known as GLP-1 RAs, originally developed to treat diabetes, is now often being used for weight loss as they have been found to suppress a patient's appetite. She lost a whopping four stone when she first began using the fat jabs, dropping from 15 stone to just 11 stone in four months. However, Claire began feeling unwell in June as she could not eat or drink anything without feeling sick. Claire said her pee turned black due to being dehydrated, and she was feeling more and more unwell, but was embarrassed to tell anyone that she was on the jab. The mum said she would pass out daily, usually at the end of the day, and was taken to hospital by her kids when she began falling unconscious in the car. Doctors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary reportedly said the jab could be the cause of the problem and put her on an IV drip for a week before she was able to go home. Claire, from Aberdeen, said: "I was going on holiday to Dubai with my daughter and I was fed up with not fitting in my clothes. "I wasn't really that big, but that was the motivation to start. I went on fat jabs but the hair loss was unbelievable so I quit - I'd rather be chubby with hair than skinny and bald "I ordered them online, I didn't go to the doctor. "There were no instructions on how to deal with it, it works for a lot of women quite well. "I couldn't eat, so I was just collapsing because I had no food or water, I wasn't able to process anything in my body. "I felt very sick and had no appetite. Even on holiday, I couldn't eat. I kept collapsing at the end of the day because when you're not drinking or eating anything, your body just shuts down Claire Reid "It's not nice going on holiday and not eating because your whole life revolves around food. "I kept collapsing at the end of the day because when you're not drinking or eating anything, your body just shuts down. "It was always at the end of the day, but I didn't say anything, I was embarrassed. "I was never going to the toilet, and when I did, my urine was black. I had to force myself to drink water. "We were in the car and I was just passing out, going in and out of consciousness, my daughter and son started panicking, and they took me straight to the doctor, who referred me to hospital. "They put me on an IV. I told them I've been taking the jab, and they said this could be what it is." Claire has now sworn off the jabs but claims she is still struggling with eating and feeling tired. The mum feared she could have died and now aims to raise awareness about buying the medication online. What are the other side effects of weight loss jabs? Like any medication, weight loss jabs can have side effects. Common side effects of GLP-1 injections include: Nausea: This is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when first starting the medication. It often decreases over time as your body adjusts. Vomiting: Can occur, often in conjunction with nausea. Diarrhea: Some people experience gastrointestinal upset. Constipation: Some individuals may also experience constipation. Stomach pain or discomfort: Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort. Reduced appetite: This is often a desired effect for people using Ozempic for weight loss. Indigestion: Can cause a feeling of bloating or discomfort after eating. Serious side effects can also include: Pancreatitis: In rare cases, Ozempic may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Kidney problems: There have been reports of kidney issues, including kidney failure, though this is uncommon. Thyroid tumors: There's a potential increased risk of thyroid cancer, although this risk is based on animal studies. It is not confirmed in humans, but people with a history of thyroid cancer should avoid Ozempic. Vision problems: Rapid changes in blood sugar levels may affect vision, and some people have reported blurry vision when taking Ozempic. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Especially if used with other medications like sulfonylureas or insulin Claire said: "I'm still not hungry and still not gaining weight. Any food at all makes me feel sick. "I was very scared, your body needs food and fluid. "I thought I could die. I stopped just now, and I've never been like this before, trying to get the jab out of my system. "The consultant said this is a big problem because the people selling it to you can't see you, they're just asking a quick questionnaire. And then you're left on your own. "Your appetite won't come back, it's absolutely terrible. I'm so weak and tired all the time. "There's not enough awareness about the dangers of taking it, everyone wants to lose weight and feel great, but there are risks." 4

Rosemount candle shop owner: 'This area is like a shopping village... Why would I ever want to leave?'
Claire Reid always loved the idea of working in a gift shop… But she never thought she would actually own one. But when she transformed her pandemic hobby of hand-making candles into an online business operated from her spare bedroom, one thing just led to another. And now she runs her very own shop on Aberdeen's buzzing Rosemount Place. It's been a whirlwind four years for the 46-year-old, as she poured everything into building her luxury fragrance business Heartfelt Aromas from scratch. Almost two years since opening her Rosemount shop, we caught up with Claire. The independent trader tells us: I'm met with a warm smile as Claire welcomes me into the sweetly-scented Heartfelt Aromas. After working full time as a hairdresser for 25 years, Claire decided it was 'time for a change' when she was furloughed during Covid. Having 'always loved candles' she decided to do an online candle-making course to pass the time while out of action. Claire, who has rheumatoid arthritis, says she also 'noticed a big difference' as the condition became more manageable when she took a break from her busy job. But despite this, she didn't see it as anything other than a way to while away the long hours stuck indoors. At first, anyway. 'I didn't actually think initially I would start a business, I was just doing it as a bit of a hobby in between furlough and going back to work,' Claire recalls. 'I then started getting more and more people saying they love them and then I thought I might actually try and sell these. The shop was definitely not a plan! 'It just started evolving…' Claire took a leap of faith and launched her Heartfelt Aromas business online in early 2021, starting off by selling through her website and social media. But making and storing everything in her spare bedroom, she admits, 'became a bit overwhelming' as she soon ran out of space. Her husband David then suggested finding her own shop. 'I always said I would like to work in a gift shop – I don't know if I ever thought I would like to own one,' Claire chuckles. 'I never saw myself as a business owner and I still sometimes feel a bit numb, like it's not really my shop. 'But I'm massively proud of where I've got to.' Claire opened up her charming store at the former Belvidere Gallery in September 2023 and hasn't looked back since. She tells me: 'Rosemount is a thriving little area, it's a busy little area with good footfall. 'It's like a little shopping village. 'Everyone's really supportive, the whole community support each other.' With a smile, Claire explains how she directs people to other Rosemount businesses if she doesn't have something someone is looking for… 'I think they do the same for me, so we all kind of help each other which I think is really supportive,' she adds. Earlier this week, The Press and Journal revealed how retail expert Jonathan De Mello had also been taken with this 'shopping village' while on a recent scouting mission in the city. The guru has been hired to help fill empty city centre units, and reckons one method would be luring independent traders from Rosemount onto Union Street with the promise of bigger premises, cut-price deals and higher footfall. So would Claire ever be tempted to make the move? She tells us it was Rosemount's image as a hub for independent outlets that enticed her there in the first place. And the crafter adds: 'I can't see it being anywhere else now to be honest, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.' Claire continues: 'If I had to move or anything I would think, 'where do I go, because I wouldn't want to be in another area'. 'It's definitely the right spot, it is a really special area.' And on that note, we take a wee break to let Claire greet a customer who is visiting the shop for the first time. I ask whether there are a lot of first-time customers. 'On average I would say somebody new walks through the door every day and they'll say, 'oh I didn't know you were here, how long have you been open?'' Claire tells me. 'But all in all, I would say I'm doing well – this year was better than last year.' And earlier this year, Claire's hard work was recognised as she received Specialist Retailer of the Year at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards. 'I still can't get my head around that, if I'm being honest,' she laughs. 'I was actually so stunned that I cried on stage. 'I couldn't say a word, because I was just like what, my tiny little solo business!' Wisconsin residents might hear tornado sirens twice on Thursday. Here's why
Wisconsin residents may hear tornado sirens twice Thursday afternoon and evening, as part of the annual statewide tornado drill. The National Weather Service said in a statement the drill will go on despite cloudy skies and the chance for rain, noting the chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening is "little to none." The drill is part of Wisconsin's Severe Weather Awareness Week, organized by the state's NWS offices, Wisconsin Emergency Management and other agencies. It usually occurs in early April. Here's what to know: The statewide drill will occur on Thursday, April 10 at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Residents are encouraged to discuss and practice severe weather safety plans throughout the day. During both drills, NWS offices will conduct NOAA Weather Radio tests — similar to weekly routine tests — and post on social media. Some local media may also participate by cutting into on-air programming or through social media posts. Some municipalities may also sound their outdoor tornado sirens during the drills. "However, it is expected many will instead rely on their regular testing schedules to ensure those devices are working properly," WEM said on its website. The NWS will not send out a test tornado warning or watch during the drills. Cell phone emergency alerts and push notifications will not go off, according to WEM. Here are some tornado safety tips from WEM: Create an emergency plan and practice when able. Know where designated shelters are at home, work and school. Be ready to go to designated shelters when a tornado warning is issued. During tornado drills, practice where you'd go during a real warning. Have multiple ways to receive alerts about impending severe weather. Ensure mobile devices can receive Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). Check daily forecasts. Create an emergency kit for your home. You can find more tornado safety information on the WEM website. Claire Reid contributed to this report. Wisconsin's remaining Forever 21 stores expected to close, company announces
All Forever 21 locations in Wisconsin are expected to close after the chain announced it is filing for bankruptcy and going out of business, making it the latest retailer in recent months to shutter operations nationwide. Forever 21 said it was closing its headquarters in late February and laying off 350 employees, as it faced financial issues and struggled to compete with Chinese online fast-fashion brands, like Shein and Temu. About 200 of the chain's roughly 350 stores were expected to close. Owner F21 OpCo said it will hold liquidation sales at stores nationwide while also selling off most of its assets, according to a March 16 press release. However, the national clothing chain may pivot from a "full wind down of operations" if it is able to find a buyer, the statement noted. In the meantime, U.S. stores and the chain's website will remain open throughout the liquidation process. International stores will not be affected, the company confirmed. It's the chain's second bankruptcy filing in less than a decade. Forever 21 first filed for bankruptcy in 2019, with the Milwaukee-area Bayshore location among numerous locations that closed as a result. More: These 6 retailers have recently announced closures. How many Wisconsin stores could be affected in 2025? More: You can no longer use Joann's Fabrics gift cards at Wisconsin stores or nationwide There are two Forever 21 stores left in Wisconsin.
