Notre Dame football continues its hot recruiting, landing 2026 Ohio 4-star linebacker

Notre Dame football is coming off a very successful month of recruiting in April, and they are looking like there is nothing that is going to stop them in May. To start off the Irish's weekend the right way, they received a commitment from 2026 Ohio linebacker Jakobe Clapper. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 215-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 398 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Advertisement Clapper picked Notre Dame over teams like Oregon, Michigan, Louisville and Ohio State. This shouldn't go unnoticed, as the Irish battled multiple regional powers in his recruitment and ultimately won out. The 2026 class is now up to 13 total commits, and is ranked as the No. 2 overall class in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Head coach Marcus Freeman has used this past seasons momentum on the recruiting trail, and it is paying off big dividends, with Clapper as the most recent success story. LGL: WCTL Radio 106.3

An Erie Christian radio station, broadcasting to the region for 58 years, got a visit from JET 24's Loving Giving Local this week. Dan Sheldon and Lori Clapper host the morning show on WCTL Radio 106.3. The Christian radio station has been delivering it's message over the airwaves in the tri-state area since 1967. Nothing short of a miracle on today's radio landscape. 'What we love is that 58 years later and in radio, we're still local,' said WCTL morning show host Lori Clapper. 'We broadcast the latest Christian music. We have fun programs. I'm part of the morning show from 6:30 to 10 am. So, we have a family-friendly morning show, which is nice.' She added, 'It's important for families because they can turn us on and not be afraid of what the kids might hear.' WCTL Radio was the recipient of this week's Loving Giving Local of $250 from Auto Express. It comes at a good time, according to Clapper. 'We have been in the middle of a capital campaign where we are making improvements to not only to our physical building here but to our on-air presence as well. We are just thrilled to receive this gift as part of that. sort of icing on the cake to just help us move forward and into the future,' she said. After making the check presentation, Joe Askins of Auto Express said, WCTL has been on the air in our community for over 50 years. 'For us to be able to deliver Loving Giving Local here today and all they have going on at this location, we know the donation will go to great use, and that's what Loving Giving Local is all about,' Askins said. WCTL is listener-supported radio. Besides the check from Loving Giving Local, there are ways you can help support his local ministry. 'Maybe you have something to offer that would help our building or help our on-air presence,' Clapper explained. 'We're open to discussing things like that as well.' And she added, 'If you're a business, you can also advertise.' The radio station conducts a spring and fall share-a-thon to raise funds to support their work. Linebacker Jakobe Clapper Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame remains red hot on the recruiting trail thanks to a commitment from Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier linebacker Jakobe Clapper. Notre Dame had been considered the front runner for some time but now the Ohio standout is officially in the Notre Dame 2026 class. Clapper has been a frequent visitor to Notre Dame and has been to campus twice this spring and winter. He was offered by the Irish last March and has been a top target ever since. Since that offer he has been on campus a total of four times as he and the Irish staff continued to build a strong connection. Advertisement The 6-2, 205-pound linebacker had an outstanding junior season for the Bombers. He racked up 105 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and two break ups. That dominance earned a first-team All-Ohio honor as a junior. He was high school teammates with Notre Dame 2025 signee Gordy Sulfsted. Clapper is an athletic linebacker with the frame to fill out nicely. He shows impressive downhill speed and the range you want to play linebacker at a high level. Clapper earned a four-star upside grade on the Irish Breakdown board and also earned a four-star grade from Rivals. He had offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Louisville, Illinois, West Virginia, Michigan State, Indiana, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Boston College, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Duke and Vanderbilt. Clapper is the 13th player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2026 class. He joins Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs, Florida wide receiver Dylan Faison, Texas athlete Bubba Frazier, Michigan offensive linemen Ben Nichols, Sullivan Garvin and Gregory Patrick, Pennsylvania offensive lineman Tyler Merrill, North Carolina edges Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade, North Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., Florida cornerback Ayden Pouncey and Tennessee cornerback Chaston Smith. Ellwood City man sentenced to 21 years in federal prison on child-sex charges

PITTSBURGH ― A former Ellwood City resident was sentenced April 22 in federal court to 252 months incarceration, followed by 15 years of supervised release, on his conviction of coercion and enticement of a minor and production and receipt of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor. U.S. District Judge William S. Stickman IV imposed the sentence on Shayne A. Clapper, 31, reported Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti. According to information presented to the court, in January 2023 through February 2023, Clapper initiated a sexual relationship with a minor known to him. Clapper provided the minor with a cell phone that he used to communicate with the minor, including requesting and receiving nude images from the minor. Clapper also induced the minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the conduct. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi M. Grogan prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. Rivetti commended the FBI and Ellwood City Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Clapper. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
