The Undertaker Tempted To End Retirement For Match With Top WWE Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In what is being seen as the ultimate sign of respect, The Undertaker has named the one current WWE superstar he would have considered coming out of retirement to face. On his podcast, "The Deadman" bestowed this incredible honor upon the former World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER. The WWE Hall of Famer has been officially retired from in-ring competition since 2020. He made it clear that while he is staying retired, a match with "The Ring General" would have been a special attraction. The Undertaker's Ultimate Endorsement While speaking with GUNTHER on the latest episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker was effusive in his praise. He said that GUNTHER's style and presence are what would have drawn him back for one more match. "If I had anything left in the tank, you're the one guy that I would consider coming out of retirement to work with," Undertaker said. "From the moment that I saw you at Clash at the Castle, I was like, dang, I would have loved to have worked with you." He then joked with the Austrian star, "I wish you would have got your s*** together a little sooner and got here quicker... But it would have been really good. I might have put you over. We'll never know now, but the match itself would have been awesome." WWE/Getty Images More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match The Undertaker is arguably the most respected superstar in WWE history. For 30 years, his "Deadman" persona, his legendary undefeated WrestleMania streak, and his role as the locker room leader made him an icon. His praise is considered the highest possible honor a current superstar can receive. Like The Undertaker, GUNTHER has established himself as a dominant and feared champion. His record-breaking 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion was universally acclaimed, and his subsequent run as World Heavyweight Champion was equally dominant until he was defeated by CM Punk at SummerSlam last weekend. A dream match between The Undertaker and GUNTHER is a compelling "what if" because of their similar, old-school wrestling philosophies. Both men are known for their brutally physical, realistic, and story-driven in-ring styles. The Undertaker specifically mentioned GUNTHER's classic, hard-hitting match against Sheamus at Clash at the Castle in 2022 as the moment that first caught his eye. An endorsement from a legend like The Undertaker is a massive vote of confidence in GUNTHER, especially coming just days after he lost his world title. While the match will only ever exist in fantasy, "The Deadman's" comments have solidified GUNTHER's status as one of the most respected competitors in the industry. Drew McIntyre Calls WWE Segment The 'Worst Moment Of His Life'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Drew McIntyre has looked back on one of the most infamous moments of his career. The former WWE Champion called the post-match segment from Clash at the Castle 2022 the "worst moment of his life." The comments came during a recent interview with Cultaholic Wrestling. McIntyre reflected on the frustration of the entire experience. McIntyre On Clash At The Castle 2022 The Clash at the Castle event in 2022 was WWE's first major stadium show in the United Kingdom in 30 years. McIntyre, a UK native, challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event. Many fans expected McIntyre to win the title in his home country. However, he lost the match after the debuting Solo Sikoa interfered on behalf of Reigns. Following the disappointing loss, McIntyre was joined in the ring by boxing legend Tyson Fury. The two then sang 'American Pie' to the deflated crowd in a moment that was widely criticized by fans online. Alex BierensThe 'Worst Moment' Of His Life McIntyre did not hold back his feelings on the segment. He expressed his disappointment with both the outcome of the match and the "stupid song" that followed. "I was so happy getting Clash in Wales and getting the first stadium show since SummerSlam '92' and getting the main event," McIntyre said. "I wasn't happy getting s*rewed and the worst moment of my life singing that stupid song afterwards." McIntyre Currently Sidelined With Injury These comments come as McIntyre is currently away from WWE programming. He is recovering from an injury suffered in late May. His last match was a loss to Damian Priest in a Steel Cage match at the Saturday Night's Main Event television special on May 24. It was reported after the show that McIntyre had been working through an injury for some time and was taking a necessary break to heal. He is expected to miss an extended period. There is currently no timetable for his return to the ring. WWE will likely want to have him back in time for SummerSlam this August if they can swing it and he is willing to comeback for the two-night event. With the all-women's premium live event, Evolution, set for July 13 in Atlanta, WWE is expected to begin building major storylines on tonight's RAW. A significant match between two top stars is already being planned for the show. According to a report from PWInsiderElite, an early main event plan for the event is a match between Jade Cargill and the 2025 Ms. Money in the Bank, Naomi. This potential matchup pits two of the most powerful and athletic women on the roster against each other. A general overall view of Cody Rhodes in the ring against AJ Styles during their 'I Quit' match at WWE's Clash at the Castle, Premium Live Event at The OVO Hydro on June 15, 2024 in Glasgow, help promote the Atlanta event and drive ticket sales, WWE is expected to give a significant push to Jade Cargill. While she is from Florida, WWE will likely use the promotional hook of her being a major star from the region. Naomi has fueled speculation in recent media interviews, stating she would be interested in a stipulation match with Cargill. Following her victory at Money in the Bank, Naomi said on the official post-show that she wanted a match with Jade before cashing in her contract on the current WWE Women's Champion, Tiffany Stratton. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation The potential booking of this match presents an interesting creative direction. Naomi is currently excelling in a new heel role and holds the powerful Money in the Bank briefcase, giving her incredible momentum. A match against Cargill at Evolution would be a true clash of titans. It remains to be seen how WWE would book the finish and what direction each superstar would take following such a high-profile encounter. Set for this week's episode of Monday Night RAW is the return of WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella. She is advertised to deliver a special message and is expected to be heavily involved in the upcoming Evolution premium live event. The first Evolution event in 2018 was headlined by Nikki Bella challenging Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women's Championship. Her return suggests she could play a significant role in a major match at this year's show as well. She most recently worked the Women's Royal Rumble match in February. It's unclear what WWE has in store for her, but it could be something significant considering her standing. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Popular WWE Superstar Could Return Sooner Than Expected: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes has been conspicuously absent from WWE television since his shocking Undisputed WWE Championship loss to a newly heel John Cena at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025. Now, reports suggest his return could be on the horizon, potentially at the upcoming Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. Rhodes' journey over the past year has been a rollercoaster for the WWE Universe. He triumphantly defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in 2024 to "finish the story" and capture the Undisputed WWE Championship, a deeply emotional moment for him and his fanbase. His reign was a celebrated one, but it came to an unexpected end at WrestleMania 41. There, John Cena, embracing a darker persona, dethroned Rhodes to begin his own record-breaking 17th World Title reign. Since that pivotal night, Rhodes has been away from WWE programming, presumably regrouping after the significant loss. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his return, largely expecting him to seek retribution against Cena and reclaim his championship. Initially, much of the speculation surrounding Rhodes's comeback pointed towards a more extended absence. Some observers believed his return might be strategically timed for a major summer event like SummerSlam in August, allowing for a significant rebuild. A general overall view of Cody Rhodes in the ring against AJ Styles during their 'I Quit' match at WWE's Clash at the Castle, Premium Live Event at The OVO Hydro on June 15, 2024... During a recent Q&A on Sportskeeda's WrestleBinge, WrestleVotes provided an update on Rhodes' status for the June 7th Money in the Bank event in Los Angeles, noting he is still scheduled for the show. The annual Money in the Bank event, with its career-altering briefcase, is still a few weeks away. Rhodes' potential involvement, even in a non-wrestling capacity, would undoubtedly generate significant buzz and could kickstart his next major storyline. It is important to note that while Rhodes has been locally advertised for SmackDown events as early as May 16th, WWE has not officially announced these appearances on their television programming. "The American Nightmare" was previously removed from other locally advertised tapings during his current hiatus. Therefore, the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event in Los Angeles on June 7th currently stands as the most concrete reported timeframe for a potential Rhodes return.
