Spartan infielder Ryan McKay named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week
Spartan infielder Ryan McKay named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week Michigan State baseball had a very solid weekend, going on the road to Penn State and winning a series against the Nittany Lions, taking two of three games over the weekend. The Spartans also took a win over Oakland during a midweek game this past Wednesday. A big part of the Spartans series victory over the Nittany Lions was the bat of Ryan McKay, a sophomore from Clarkston, Michigan. McKay went 9-for-14 over the weekend, while going 4-for-4 against Oakland on Wednesday night. A total of 13-for-18 for the week, McKay slashed a nasty .722 / .762 / .833 for the week. For his efforts this week, McKay has been recognized by the Big Ten Conference as the conference's Co-Player of the Week, sharing the award with Reese Moore of Iowa. Michigan State has a big week ahead, going on the road to face Notre Dame, before coming home to faceoff with Illinois in another Big Ten series. Oklahoma Sooners in the rankings after sweep of Arkansas in SEC play
Oklahoma Sooners in the rankings after sweep of Arkansas in SEC play The Oklahoma Sooners remained undefeated over the weekend with a sweep of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Although they were tested in all three games, they were able to get just enough hits and just enough outs to remain the only undefeated team in Division 1 softball. Oklahoma is receiving contributions from a mix of veterans, transfers, and youth alike in their incredible start to the season. Two weeks into SEC play, and the Sooners are still the top team in college softball despite the turnover they suffered this offseason. True freshman Gabbie Garcia won SEC Freshman of the Week last week and on Tuesday was named SEC Co-Player of the Week. Transfer pitcher Sam Landry was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after a dominant performance against the explosive Arkansas offense. Oklahoma was voted the No. 1 team in the nation in three of the four major rankings in softball. In the two most important, the NFCA USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and the Softball poll, the Sooners are No. 1. D1 Softball and Softball America are split on how they see the Sooners at this point in the season. The Sooners are top two and after a 26-0 start, it's safe to say they aren't two. Here's how the Sooners stand in the major rankings after week two of SEC play. Poll Ranking NFCA USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll 1 Softball 1 D1 Softball 1 Softball America 2 NCAA Softball RPI 8 More: SEC Softball Power Rankings after huge conference weekend The Sooners are trailed by the Texas Longhorns, who come in at No. 2 in the nation in every spot the Sooners are No. 1. Only Softball America has the Longhorns ahead of the Sooners, but most of that is based on preseason rankings. The Longhorns are certainly a threat to dethrone the Sooners in 2025, as are the Florida Gators. But so far, the Sooners have been up to every challenge they've faced. Oklahoma still has matchups against top-10 teams like Tennessee, Texas, and Florida and a matchup with one of the early surprises in conference play, Mississippi State. It seems unlikely that the Sooners will remain undefeated, but they're putting together another incredible season.

Sears' shares the honor with Tennessee's Chaz Lanier, who was also named SEC Co-Player of the Week according to the conference. Beginning on Wednesday night in Columbia, Sears led Alabama in scoring during their 110-98 road loss at Missouri, finishing with a game-high 35 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, as well as 5-of-11 from three. Sears also finished with two rebounds, five assists, and shot six-of-seven from the free throw line in the loss. Saturday against Kentucky, Sears continued that offensive success by posting a game-high 30 points in a 96-83 win for the Crimson Tide on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, as well as a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line. The Alabama guard also shot three-of-eight from three, while also adding four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Alabama's Will Hodo recognized as SEC Baseball Co-Player of the Week
The Alabama Crimson Tide were represented Monday in the latest edition of the SEC's weekly baseball awards, as Will Hodo was officially named as the conference's Co-Player of the Week alongside Arkansas' Wehiwa Aloy. Taking a look at Hodo's week, it originally began Tuesday in a win over Middle Tennessee in which he hit his first home run of the season in a three-for-five performance where he also had a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Hodo then followed that up with a one-for-four showing the next day in a win over Alabama State in which he had a RBI. Hodo's impact however was felt most this past weekend at the 2025 Jax College Baseball Classic in which Alabama went undefeated against Coastal Carolina, NC State, and Ohio State. In Jacksonville, Hodo went a combined 3-for-9 with a home run, a double, three RBI, and six runs scored, and delivered a walk-off three-run home run to defeat the Buckeyes on Sunday. Cooper Flagg breaks ACC record with 11th Rookie of the Week nomination
Cooper Flagg breaks ACC record with 11th Rookie of the Week nomination Duke basketball superstar Cooper Flagg has been a mainstay on the ACC's weekly award releases this season, and he was named the conference's Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Monday for his efforts against Virginia and Illinois. The latter nomination, Flagg's 11th ACC Rookie of the Week award in 2024-25, broke a conference record for the most times winning that honor in a single season. The old record of 10 stood since 1990 with Georgia Tech's Kenny Anderson, North Carolina Tar Heels star Tyler Hansbrough, and Duke's own Jabari Parker all tied at that mark. Flagg put together a double-double in the first half against the Cavaliers, finishing with 17 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. He only played 23 minutes during Saturday's blowout of the Illini but still produced 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in that span, and he shot 13/26 (50%) from the field for the week. The 18-year-old forward has been named the Player of the Week or Co-Player of the Week five different times now, two more than any other player in the ACC. He shared the honor with Boston College's Donald Hand Jr., the second time in four weeks that those two split the top conference billing. Flagg, who has only missed out on Rookie of the Week honors five times this season, will have two more chances to add to his new ACC record.
