Nía Vásquez Cocora Shop

Our designs are a song to Ibiza, classic, sustainable, timeless Rooted in sustainability, femininity, and the free-spirited energy of Ibiza, Cocora Shop is a Spanish eco-luxury swimwear and summer lifestyle brand that celebrates conscious fashion with purpose and passion. What began as a Master's marketing project quickly evolved into a brand that blends timeless design with artisanal craftsmanship. Handcrafted by women in workshops across Colombia and Brazil, Cocora's collections are deeply inspired by nature, culture, and the founder's personal connection to Pachamama (Mother Earth). Speaking to Fibre2Fashion, Founder Nía Vásquez shares the story behind Cocora Shop, her design philosophy rooted in the spirit of Ibiza, the brand's commitment to ethical production, and how she's navigating the journey of building a sustainable, global label—one handmade piece at a time. What inspired the creation of Cocora Shop, and why Ibiza? Cocora Shop was born as a project for a master's degree in marketing. The product and designs developed a big passion that took us where we are today. Why Ibiza? Ibiza is my favourite place of the world and screams summer, exclusivity and style. How do your designs reflect the spirit and aesthetic of Ibiza? Our designs are a song to Ibiza, classic, sustainable, timeless. Our brand image reflects the special vibe and energy that you can only feel there, and that exact vibe is what you feel when you wear a Cocora. Sustainability is at the core of your brand. Can you walk us through your production process? We design in the most artisanal way. From shopping hardware from small producers to swimwear handmade only by women in our atelier, we pay special attention to every detail. We travel once a year to shop fabrics and products and from what we like we start the creating process and putting together our vision. Why did you choose Colombia and Brazil as the locations for your artisanal workshops? The quality of swimwear in both countries is well renowned, and the fit is truly unique, so it felt only natural to produce there. We are especially proud to be producing in our hometown in Colombia from this year onwards, and we could not be more excited about the positive impact this will have on the region. What steps do you take to ensure fair and ethical working conditions for the women who craft your garments? For us, it is very important to feel like a family, that is why all the people involved in our processes share brand and personal values with Cocora. This means we are always looking for new ways to improve our work environment and make our co-workers as happy as possible. How does your connection to Pachamama (Mother Earth) influence your creative and business decisions? It influences everything. From being fair, to planting one tree per purchase, or leaving and impact, our love for the planet is a big part of Cocora. Regarding creativity, there is not a more beautiful source to imagination than the earth. What materials do you use in your swimwear to ensure both luxury quality and sustainability? We are working in the present collection with Carvico fabrics, not only well known for their durability, but also because they are eco-friendly. We have no waste. We usually use the last cuts to make a third piece as a present to our customers. How does Cocora Shop eliminate the use of plastics and cardboard in packaging? Since our first year, we started using only fabric bags and recycled paper to wrap, eliminating boxes and cardboard labels that are not needed. What challenges have you faced while building a sustainable fashion brand, and how did you overcome them? Building a sustainable fashion brand comes with its own challenges. Producing sustainably requires greater investment, and for small brands like ours, it is often difficult to strike a balance between offering high quality and maintaining fair pricing. Fortunately, the public is becoming more informed and appreciative of the value behind such efforts, helping us gradually move towards our goals. What is next for Cocora Shop? Are you planning to expand your range or presence globally? Our core identity is to remain special, unique, and hard to find. We intend to expand gradually and thoughtfully, aiming to establish a presence in select, exclusive boutiques across all continents. Ibiza Swim Week strengthens international presence in second edition

Last Friday, Ibiza hosted the second edition of Ibiza Swim Week, an event that continues to carve out its place in the international swimwear fashion calendar. The initiative, which is steadily gaining momentum, is spearheaded by Nía Vásquez, founder of Ibiza-based premium bikini label Cocora Shop. This year, the number of participating brands doubled compared to its inaugural edition, reaching a total of 16 labels, highlighting Vásquez's ambition to position Ibiza as a European hub for designer beachwear. International participation and local presence The brand lineup featured names from the US, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, France, Italy, the UK, Spain, and Hawaii, alongside three Ibiza-based labels, reflecting a blend of global appeal and local identity. Drawing inspiration from formats such as Miami Swim Week and New York Swim Week, Ibiza Swim Week combined runway shows with a direct-to-consumer market, live DJ sets, and artistic performances. The immersive format is designed to engage not only end consumers, but also buyers and industry professionals. Organisers noted that "both the casting and the selection criteria were managed from the US," aiming to uphold production standards aligned with leading American swimwear events. Set against the backdrop of the Hotel Aguas de Ibiza in Santa Eulalia, the event sought proximity to the area's affluent tourist demographic. In doing so, Ibiza Swim Week positions itself as both a creative platform and a commercial showcase, with a distinctly international outlook. This article was translated to English using an AI tool.
