Colorado cornerback transferring back to the SEC after a year with the Buffs

Colorado cornerback transferring back to the SEC after a year with the Buffs Colorado lost one of its top players last week when cornerback Colton Hood entered the transfer portal. Hood now has a new home after announcing Friday morning that he will transfer to Tennessee. Hood was projected to be one of Colorado's top cornerbacks this season after the departure of Travis Hunter to the NFL. The 5-foot-11 cornerback played in all 13 games for the Buffaloes last season, totaling 24 tackles and two interceptions. He will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Volunteers. It was a surprise departure on the final day to enter the portal, but Hood, who entered it with his brother, Brandon, took to social media to explain the decision. "On April 25, we learned the school [Colorado] was moving in a different direction and we humbly respected that decision by entering the portal," Hood said on X (formerly Twitter). Deion Sanders and Colorado's lack of desire for Hood on the team are surprising, considering his talent and the need for an elite starting cornerback opposite DJ McKinney. There is likely more to the story than the Buffs just looking to go a different direction, perhaps related to NIL, or if Hood's predicted playing time was not what it would seem on the surface. Hood joins a Tennessee program after a College Football Playoff appearance and championship aspirations. He began his career at Auburn, where he played in four games as a true freshman. Colorado has added several pieces to their secondary this spring, highlighted by cornerbacks Noah King and Teon Parks, who look set for significant playing time with Hood out of the picture. Ex-Auburn defensive back returns to SEC via transfer portal

A former Auburn defensive back is making his way back to the SEC via the transfer portal. Colton Hood, who signed with Auburn as part of its 2023 signing class, is on the move again. On3's Hayes Fawcett reports that Hood is transferring to Tennessee after spending the 2024 season at Colorado. Advertisement Hood signed with Auburn as a three-star cornerback from the 2023 recruiting cycle, joining fellow cornerbacks JC Hart, Kayin Lee, and Champ Anthony. Hood played four games during his lone season in Auburn, totaling three tackles in 44 snaps. A bulk of his time on the field came in Auburn's Music City Bowl loss to Maryland, where he notched all three tackles in 33 snaps. His production increased at Colorado, where he played in all 13 of the Buffaloes' games. He recorded 24 tackles with two interceptions and allowed opposing receivers to catch 53.1% of passes thrown his way. Hood, the nephew of former Auburn cornerback Roderick Hood, returns to the SEC intending to become a productive defensive back for the Tennessee Volunteers. Hood is one of 11 players from Auburn's 2023 signing class to leave the program, joining several notable names such as Darron Reed Jr., Tyler Scott, Terrance Love, and JC Hart. Several players who remain with the program and have made an early impact are Keldric Faulk, Kayin Lee, and Connor Lew. Colorado CB Colton Hood transferring to Tennessee

May 2 - Former Colorado cornerback Colton Hood announced on Friday that he is transferring to Tennessee. Hood had been expected to take over for Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the Buffaloes' secondary. He had 24 tackles and two interceptions in 13 games in his lone season playing for coach Deion Sanders in 2024. Hood, a native of Georgia, played his freshman season at Auburn, appearing in four games in 2023. Hood told Friday that he liked the "culture and history" at Tennessee and the "genuineness" of Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel. "They basically said I can come in and play and be a big factor of what they got going on immediately," Hood said. "So I think that's big, too." He also said he is excited to play closer to home and test his skills against Southeastern Conference opponents. "That's really big because I was just at Colorado, which is really far, really, really far from home," Hood said. "So being able to come closer to home is big for myself. "It is appealing going against the best. I pride myself on competitiveness, so that is very appealing." Coming off a 10-3 season, Tennessee kicks off the 2025 campaign against Syracuse on Aug. 30 in Atlanta.
