Colorado CB Colton Hood transferring to Tennessee
Hood had been expected to take over for Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the Buffaloes' secondary.
He had 24 tackles and two interceptions in 13 games in his lone season playing for coach Deion Sanders in 2024.
Hood, a native of Georgia, played his freshman season at Auburn, appearing in four games in 2023.
Hood told On3.com Friday that he liked the "culture and history" at Tennessee and the "genuineness" of Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel.
"They basically said I can come in and play and be a big factor of what they got going on immediately," Hood said. "So I think that's big, too."
He also said he is excited to play closer to home and test his skills against Southeastern Conference opponents.
"That's really big because I was just at Colorado, which is really far, really, really far from home," Hood said. "So being able to come closer to home is big for myself.
"It is appealing going against the best. I pride myself on competitiveness, so that is very appealing."
Coming off a 10-3 season, Tennessee kicks off the 2025 campaign against Syracuse on Aug. 30 in Atlanta.

Hard-hitting Dodgers grab four-game split with Rockies
August 21 - Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages homered and finished with two hits apiece, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 9-5 in Denver on Thursday. Alex Freeland had three hits and Mookie Betts contributed two hits for Los Angeles, which earned a split of the four-game series without Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani was out of the lineup a day after he was hit by a comebacker from Orlando Arcia while he was pitching. The Dodgers scored at least one run in each of the first five innings to back Clayton Kershaw (8-2), who allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Brenton Doyle homered among his two hits and drove in four runs, while Jordan Beck finished with two hits for Colorado. Los Angeles jumped on starter Chase Dollander (2-10) in the first inning. Betts led off with a walk and Freeman smashed his 16th home run 451 feet to center to make it 2-0. Colorado got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Freeman led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice, advanced to third when Kershaw was called for a disengagement violation and scored on Hunter Goodman's groundout. In the second, Pages hit a double and went to third on Tyler Freeman's error in right field. Alex Call walked and Miguel Rojas reached on a bunt single to drive in Pages. Betts loaded the bases with a single and Dollander hit Will Smith to bring in another run. Call had an RBI single in the third inning to make it 5-1, and the Dodgers chased Dollander in the fourth. Betts and Freeman led off with singles, Betts scored on a sacrifice fly and Freeland's double made it 7-1. Dollander allowed seven runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. Doyle hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth for Colorado. But Pages led off the fifth with his 21st home run and Smith drove in another run with a single in the eighth. Doyle, who had an RBI single in the sixth, hit a two-run homer 442 feet to left in the bottom of the eighth, his 13th. --Field Level Media

Colorado Rapids allow fans to exchange traded-away star's jersey for a new one
The Colorado Rapids are celebrating the arrival of their new star player by allowing fans to discard memorabilia of their old one. The MLS team announced on Thursday that it has acquired Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Paxten Aaronson in a club-record deal involving a reported $7m transfer fee. The purchase fills an obvious need for the Rapids, as the club's previous starting No 10, Djordje Mihailović, was traded to Toronto FC for $8m after expressing to the club that he wanted to leave not even two full seasons after joining. Mihailović said he requested a transfer for 'personal reasons,' a surprising turn of events for a player who quickly became a linchpin of the team's attacking unit after joining from AZ Alkmaar, leading the Rapids to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons last year. This year, the Rapids are enjoying their best season since 2021. Toronto FC, meanwhile, are in the midst of a full rebuild, having failed to make the MLS playoffs in each of the previous four seasons and never finishing higher than 11th in the Eastern Conference in that timespan. The club recently jettisoned high-priced stars Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi and remain mired near the bottom of the East. But in his introductory press conference with Toronto FC, Mihailovic indicated that he felt his new club had a greater commitment to success, citing 'The idea of getting back to winning trophies here' among his reasons for the move. 'Everybody talks about winning. Everybody talks about making playoffs,' he said. 'I could truly sense the truth behind them explaining their project.' Now, the Rapids are allowing their fans move on without Mihailović. In announcing the acquisition of Aaronson, the club said it will allow fans who bought jerseys with Mihailović's name and No 10 on the back for new ones, either blank, with Aaronson's name and number, or that of select other players. A Rapids spokesperson told the Guardian US that the club decided to enact the program as a way of showing their commitment to their community, admitting that Mihailovic's move 'came as a surprise' and that Aaronson's acquisition marks 'a turning point and a fresh chapter for the club, our fans, and our new rising star.' A program of this type is exceedingly rare but not unheard of. In 2018, sports retailer Fanatics said it would allow NBA fans to exchange recently purchased jerseys of a player who was traded for another. The retailer now runs a similar program across all sports for players whose jersey is purchased within 90 days of being traded. The NFL put the brakes on a similar program run by a Detroit realtor for Matthew Stafford Lions last year. In a much more serious scenario, the New England Patriots ran a program to allow fans to trade in their Aaron Hernandez jerseys after he was charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. Paxten Aaronson, the brother of Leeds United's Brenden Aaronson, is leaving behind the chance to play in the German Bundesliga but will step into a situation where he'll be relied upon to take a leading role for the Rapids. The younger Aaronson spent last season on loan to Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he scored a team-high eight goals and added four assists while starting consistently as Utrecht finished fourth in the league. Aaronson moved to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 after breaking through with the Philadelphia Union, his home town club. He made his debut for the US men's national team in 2023 and was on the roster for the 2025 Gold Cup along with his brother.

Report: MLB, ESPN reach framework media rights deal
August 21 - ESPN and Major League Baseball have a framework agreement in place that would give ESPN the exclusive rights to sell out-of-market regular-season games over the next three years, according to a report from The Athletic on Thursday. The deal would also include the rights to in-market games for five teams -- the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Guardians, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padre and Minnesota Twins -- for the next three years. The deal is not finalized or official and likely won't be any earlier than next month, per the report. The financials of the deal are unknown, but expected to be "substantial," according to the report. MLB and ESPN declined to comment to The Athletic. ESPN would no longer have rights to its long-owned "Sunday Night Baseball," and would move its primetime matchup to a different day of the week. ESPN would continue to broadcast about 30 regular-season games exclusively through its network, according to the report. This comes after ESPN's reported deal with the NFL in which ESPN would take control of NFL Network properties in exchange for 10 percent of its company. ESPN opted out of its initial media rights deal with MLB. There were still three seasons remaining on the deal that had given ESPN the rights to "Sunday Night Baseball," eight-to-12 first-round playoff games and the Home Run Derby at a price of $550 million per year. If the two sides push the agreement across the finish line, it's expected to go into effect next season. --Field Level Media
