Dodgers pitchers make big moves toward injury returns

The post Dodgers pitchers make big moves toward injury returns appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. Despite dealing with injuries to his pitching staff throughout the season, Dave Roberts has his team near the top of the standings. However, the team is still waiting to be at full strength in 2025, making a move to add a new reliever to Roberts' bullpen. Los Angeles fans got some good news on Thursday though, with two starters heading to their minor league team. Advertisement Both Edgardo Henriquez and Emmet Sheehan are heading over to the Oklahoma City Comets, the Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers, according to Alex Freedman, who covers the team. Henriquez suffered a fracture in his left foot during spring training while Sheehan is on his way back from Tommy John surgery. While both pitchers are talented, it is likely that they will remain in the minor leagues in 2025. In the short term, Los Angeles hopes that Henriquez and Sheehan can put up good outings with the Comets. Roberts is in need of as many options as possible when it comes to his pitching. If either starter puts up good numbers, they could find their way to the major leagues. For now, the Dodgers' focus is on their upcoming series against the New York Yankees. The series is the first of the season between the teams that fought for the World Series last year. After losing in embarrassing fashion, the Yankees will enter the series with something to prove. The series against New York doesn't mean as much to Los Angeles as it does for their opponent. However, a good showing goes a long way when it comes to building momentum. Their next six games are against both teams from New York. Henriquez and Sheehan joined the Comets on Thursday and have rehab starts awaiting them. For a team that needs all the pitching they can get, the news is a great sign for Roberts' team.

Ben&Ben's drummer diagnosed with 'Drummer's Wrist'; band reschedules shows

Ben&Ben's drummer, Jam Villanueva, has been diagnosed with a condition that affects her ability to play drums. In a statement on Instagram, the band said that Jam has been dealing with Quervain's tendinosis and 'Drummer's Wrist' for the past couple of weeks. They also said that Jam continued rehearsing with the band for their recent performances last weekend, 'while working with specialists to manage her pain.' 'We want to assure everyone that the condition is temporary and treatable – it's something that many drummers have gone through and recovered from,' they said. However, to properly heal, 'Jam's doctor has advised her to completely rest her left wrist for at least the entire month of June.' 'While we will miss the energy and magic she shares with us on stage, her health is our utmost priority.' With this, Ben&Ben is rescheduling their The Traveller Across Dimensions shows in Bacolod and Davao tour shows. They are still finalizing the details. Ben&Ben kicked off their The Traveller Across Dimensions tour in Cebu on May 24. The Bacolod show was originally scheduled for June 8, whereas the Davao show was for June 22. After the Philippine leg, the band will fly to California for a show on July 12 and Singapore on December 14. More cities for the tour will be announced soon. Ben&Ben's latest single 'Saranggola' was released in April and marked their eight years as a band. Their latest album 'The Traveller Across Dimensions' was released in November 2024. It includes the tracks, 'Could Be Something,' 'Comets,' and 'Triumph.' The band had a major concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in December 2024 in support of the album. The show featured Ben&Ben's live music with filmmaking and multimedia elements to create an animation-concert hybrid. Ben&Ben also performed at the Off Limits Music Festival in Abu Dhabi in April. Ed Sheeran, One Republic, and Kaiser Chiefs were also part of the lineup. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News

Comets in grand final revenge

After dropping their first points since 2023 in a draw last week, reigning premiers Western Roar suffered their first loss since the same period, this time going down to last year's beaten grand finalists Comets in another thriller, 53-52. Comets surged out to a four-goal lead in the first quarter, fighting desperately all game to maintain their lead through Jasmah Haywood (30 goals), Sloan Burton (18) and Madeleine Ash (five). Roar vice-captain Caitlyn Brown did all she could to keep her team in the match in her 100th GIG WANL game, backed by Sophia Lamers (36) and Asha Parsons (16). Your local paper, whenever you want it. With eight seconds remaining in the game and the scores locked, it was Haywood who tipped the Comets over the edge. Southside Demons are now just one point behind Roar on the ladder in second after a 53-43 win over Souwest Jets. Despite a 10-goal loss, the Jets will be pleased with their efforts to stay with the Demons for much of the game. Demons captain Meg Gallager stepped up with a huge 36 goals, alongside Georgia Ettridge (10), Georgia Pitt (five) and Brooke Marques (six). For the Jets, Rylee Hall (36) and Meretini Fuimaono (seven) shared the goals. Fourth-placed Western Warriors put a four-point gap between them and fifth-placed Peel Lightning with a 47-40 victory, thanks to a strong second half. Warriors Jamaica Jauncey (36), Emily Dwyer (10) and Hana Stoked (one) were all in the goals, whilst Scarlet Jauncey and Taylor Finch held down defence. Lightning kept themselves in the game through all four quarters, with Rebecca Lill (19) and Marene Peyper (15) in goals. Chelsea Cook had an uncharacteristically quiet game with just five goals. Fremantle Sharks backed up their draw with Western Roar last week with a 33-goal thrashing of Rangers 72-39 Kasey Ridout was back to her best form with 43 goals, joined by Sophie Eastaugh's 20 and Mwai Kumwenda's nine. Ranger Aisha Morcombe put in a solid effort with 30 goals but remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder.

Stellar Monarchs draw with Workington Comets in cup tie

On a windy and dusty day at the GT Tyres Arena, the Stellar Monarchs made short work of the first cup tie of the year and were virtually through after Heat 5 needing only finishers in the remaining races. Team manager Alex Harkess said: 'It really was a match without any pressure, we knew what we had to do and hoped that everyone enjoyed their day. 'We made a pretty good start which laid the foundations, disappointed that we fell away a bit then showed what they are worth to come back and take a lead. Once again everyone showed a little bit of what they are capable of but it has to be consistent.' Monarchs had made a strong start with an opening heat 5-1 which must have settled any nerves, Justin and Kye heading home Troy Batchelor, who went on to ride unbeaten in the remainder of the meeting. The mega-reserve Victor won heat 2 followed by a race win for Jonatan in a continuation of his Friday night form. Things then proceeded to slip away from Monarchs as the Comets found their feet and showed themselves to be a much better team than they looked the previous night. Trailing 25-17 after heat 7 Monarchs then set about turning things back round. The outside line could be profitable but riders had to be bold to stay out wide under pressure. Both Grahn and Castagna took that route to great effect in winning heats 8 and 9 as the team fought back. There was a touch of good fortune to the 5-1 in heat 11 as Vuolas stopped on the first bend and baulked partner Hook, allowing Sedgmen and Palovaara to race clear. For a moment it looked like the heat had been stopped. Monarchs immediately capitalised in heat 12 with a good first bend work from Victor helping his partner to set up a Swedish 5-1 which is becoming a pleasing feature of the season. So the team were level. The team shared heat 13 behind Batchelor and ensured that they couldn't lose on the day with the fourth 5-1 in heat 14 from Palovaara and Thomson. An away win was denied after Comets had the choice of gates in heat 15 and took a 5-1 from the tapes. An away draw is welcome for Monarchs who now await confirmation of what will happen next in the knockout cup. Monarchs 45 – Comets 45 Full results here. On Friday night at Armadale, Edinburgh Monarchs won 65- 24 against Workington Comets. The full match report is here. Our involvement goes beyond just sponsorship, it's about contributing to a sport we care about and connecting with the local community. Edinburgh Monarchs fire Workington Comets into oblivion

The Edinburgh Monarchs put in a devastating display to swat aside a hopeless Workington Comets in their KO Cup quarter-final first-leg clash. The Capital outfit emerged 65-24 winners at Armadale to all but secure a last-four showdown with arch-rivals the Glasgow Tigers. Kye Thomson (blue) and Jonatan Grahn (red) blew away the Comets. Picture: Jack Cupido The second leg takes place this afternoon in Cumbria, but it would take something extraordinary to see anything other than Monarchs progress. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Having been on the wrong side of some pretty tight affairs so far this season, the Monarchs can take huge comfort that this one was all but wrapped up by the midway point. Three of the home boys obliterated the scoring charts - Victor Palovaara bagging 20 with six heat wins from seven outings, but middle pairing Jonatan Grahn and Kye Thomson didn't put a wheel wrong all night - both scoring paid maximums and a deserved heat 15 outing. The hosts registered eight 5-1s, not to mention a heat six 5-0, and produced 13 race winners in this completely one-sided affair. In truth, the Comets offered little resistance, if any. Troy Batchelor and former Monarch Jacob Hook could at least leave West Lothian with their heads held high. As for the rest of the team, well, they simply weren't at the races. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Monarchs were again running rider replacment after newcomer Oskar Polis sensationally quit the team last Friday citing an inability to get to grips with tracks here in the UK. The search for his replacement continues. However, Scandinavian Grahn has settled well in what is his maiden season in British speedway. The 24-year-old said afterwards: "It was an amazing night and I'm so happy for this performance from all the guys in the team and also for myself. It feels like things are going to click for me now. I had a goal before the season to score 10 points or more in a meeting so I'm happy. Speedway is all about what's in your head. We want to win every meeting and score as many points so we're going to Workington to win that too." Monarchs: Palovaara 20, Thomson 16, Grahn 13, Sedgmen 8, Castagna 7, Parker 1. Comets: Batchelor 9, Hook 8, Zischke 3, Bowes 2, Vuolas 1, Foord 1, Etheridge 0.
