Peacemaker: James Gunn Teases John Cena vs. Batman in DCU

James Gunn wants to see John Cena's fight Batman in the DCU. Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU officially kicked off last December with the animated Creature Commandos series. Gunn's Superman movie is now being released in United States theaters next month before Peacemaker Season 2, which is part of the new shared DC universe, arrives in August 2025. At CCXPMX 25 this past weekend, per ComicBookMovie, Cena and Gunn were both asked who they'd like to see Cena's Christopher Smith character fight at some point in the DCU. While Cena didn't have an answer, Gunn said that he wants Peacemaker to fight Batman at some point. At this time, it's not clear who will be playing the Dark Knight in the DCU, as no official casting announcement has been made. A Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is currently in the works and is being directed by The Flash's Andy Muschietti, though there haven't been a lot of substantial announcements since that project in some time. Peacemaker Season 2, meanwhile, premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. The season will have eight episodes in total. 'The new season follows Christopher 'Chris' Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost,' the official logline reads. Along with Cena, the cast of Peacemaker Season 2 includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, Michael Rooker as Red St. Wild, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Filion as Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord.

Marvel's The Fantastic Four Almost Has THIS Doctor Who Actor Playing Reed Richards Instead of Pedro Pascal

David Tennant, best known for his role in Doctor Who, recently shared that he had his eye set on playing Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel Studios' upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Speaking at MCM Comic Con, as per Comic Book Movie, Tennant was asked which superhero role he would want to play. He answered honestly, saying, 'In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction.' While the part ultimately went to The Last of Us and The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal, Tennant made it clear there were no hard feelings. 'Although if it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal,' he added. Pedro Pascal will lead The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Reed Richards. The Marvel Studios film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, and is expected to launch a new chapter in the MCU. The casting of Pascal as Mister Fantastic was confirmed earlier this year and drew attention from fans across the globe. The film also stars Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Julia Garner joins as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson will play Galactus. Although Tennant missed the chance to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a leading role, he is no stranger to comic book adaptations. He previously played the villain Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, a Marvel series that aired on Netflix. Following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel fans will face a long gap before the next MCU movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the next title on the calendar, releasing on July 31, 2026. This marks the longest break between MCU films since the period between Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 and Black Widow in 2021. The delay is largely due to the shift in release dates for the next Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday was pushed from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, has been moved from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.

New Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rumor Claims Three Villains Have Been Lined Up, And I'm Really Hoping One Of Them Ends Up Being Legit

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Now that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to begin filming soon and has a spot on the upcoming Marvel movies calendar, we've been getting more frequent updates on Tom Holland's fourth solo feature as Peter Parker. The latest rumor is alleging that three specific villains have been selected for Brand New Day. While I'd certainly welcome seeing this specific trio cause trouble, there's one in particular I hope ends up being legit, as it's someone we've already spent some time with in the MCU. This rumor originated from a now-deleted Instagram post from user Chris Higashi (via ComicBookMovie), who claimed that Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone were revealed as the Spider-Man: Brand New Day villains at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation in Las Vegas. Now scooper MyTimeToShineHello (again, via ComicBookMovie) is saying that Michael Mando is on deck to reprise Mac Gargan, who will become Scorpion. Mando, best known for playing Nacho Varga in Better Call Saul, first appeared as Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Needless to say all of this should be taken as a grain of salt for now, but I sincerely hope that Michael Mando is returning for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His version of Gargan was introduced as a criminal who wanted to buy from Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes, but Tom Holland's Spidey interrupted the sale. Gargan was left with some bad facial injuries and sent to prison, and while there, he met up with Toomes and asked if there was any truth to the rumor that he knew Spider-Man's secret identity. Related Stories Ahead Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Franchise's Flash Thompson Actor Shares One Hope For The Character (And I Have Mixed Feelings) Next Summer Is Going To Be All About Tom Holland, And I Need Everyone To Start Coming Up With A Fun Spider-Man Version Of Barbenheimer Now Toomes lied and said he wasn't aware who was underneath the mask, and the Spider-Man: Homecoming end credits tease of Gargan and his 'friends' wanting to exact revenge on the Web-Slinger was never followed up on. Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home moved away from street crime in favor of spotlighting villains like Mysterio and the baddies from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man movies. We did, however, get to see an alternate version of the MCU's Gargan become Scorpion in the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription. Considering that Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin is apparently off limits for a Spider-Man movie, Tombstone works nicely as a different crime boss villain to use, and I can easily see Boomerang being one of his subordinates. However, Scorpion is one of those classic members of Spider-Man's rogues gallery who still hasn't been fully adapted on the big screen. I would absolutely be game to see Michael Mando in that green armor and whipping around that cybernetic tail trying to kill the Webbed Wonder. Since casting information has started trickling in for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, perhaps we'll learn in the coming weeks if Mando has indeed signed on. For now, Tom Holland's co-stars on the movie, which opens on July 31, 2026, include Sadie Sink (who may be playing Peter Parker's daughter from another universe) and Liza Colón-Zayas.
