Kong shows the newly-launched 'Kuching Journey Planner' mobile app. KUCHING (June 5): The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has launched the 'Kuching Journey Planner' mobile application for commuters using the Kuching service. According to its chairman Michael Kong, the app, which allows users to track the live location of buses, is now available in beta mode on the Android Play Store. 'This app is designed to enhance the commuting experience by allowing users to track real-time locations of buses under the Kuching service, plan their journeys more effectively and access updated route and schedule information at their fingertips,' he said in a statement today. Kong emphasised that this is just the beginning, as the app is still in beta mode. 'We understand that there may still be bugs or areas for improvement, and we welcome and value all feedback from users. Your input will help us fine-tune the application and ensure it meets the needs of our community.' At present, he said the app is available exclusively on Android devices. However, he noted that they are actively working to improve it and will roll out a version on the Apple App Store once they are confident it is ready for full release. Kong encouraged all Kuching commuters to try out the 'Kuching Journey Planner' app and provide suggestions and feedback. 'The setting up of our mobile app within three months from the launch of our first route shows our commitment to make public transportation more convenient, reliable and accessible for everyone. 'This is another step forward in the modernisation of the public transport in Sarawak and we will continue in our efforts to uplift the public transportation industry,' added Kong.

Kong (second left) and others pose for the camera during a stop along the new route. KUCHING (May 22): The sixth Saujana-Kampung Benuk route under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching initiative has been officially launched to provide better connectivity for the community. Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak chairman Michael Kong said the new route is a significant addition to the city's growing public transport network. 'It is aimed at enhancing connectivity for residents from Kota Padawan, Bung Barau and Kampung Benuk to downtown Kuching. 'What is especially exciting about this new route is that it overlaps with the existing Saujana-Bau route at several key stops, including Timberland Medical Centre, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Farley Mile 6 Mile, and Mile 7 Bazaar. 'With this, commuters now have more flexibility and convenience in choosing between two service options for these destinations,' he said in a statement today following the launch. According to Kong, the first bus for the Saujana-Kampung Benuk route departs at 5.30am from Kampung Benuk and 6.30am from Saujana, with the last bus at 7.30pm on weekdays. He said the service operates from 6.30am to 8.30pm on weekends. 'Following our recent test run, we have identified 6.30 to 8.30am and 4.30 to 7.30pm on weekdays as peak hours. In response, we will increase the frequency of buses during these periods to every 30 minutes, ensuring that commuters have a timely and reliable alternative to private vehicles,' he explained. Kong said the launch is part of CVLB's broader mission to build a more accessible, sustainable and efficient public transport system for greater Kuching, while also helping to lower household transportation costs. He said public transport is not only a viable alternative, but also a smarter, more environmentally-friendly choice that helps reduce traffic congestion and lower household transportation costs. As such, he urged the public, particularly those living in areas served by the new route, to take advantage of the service. 'Your support and usage of the SBST Kuching services will ensure its long-term sustainability and growth, as we continue working towards an integrated, people-focused public transport ecosystem.' He also thanked the public for their continuous feedback and pledged CVLB's commitment to improving connectivity across Sarawak. bus route CVLB Kuching Michael Kong Saujana-Kampung Benuk

KUCHING (April 30): The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak today has introduced the Saujana–King Centre route as the fourth addition under the Kuching Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme. CVLB Sarawak chairman Michael Kong described the launch of the new route as a proud milestone and a reflection of the board's continued efforts to modernise and revitalise Kuching's public transportation system. 'We are working on another six more routes, which will be rolled out in the coming weeks to further expand our network and serve the community better,' he said during the launch according to a statement. Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen was also present and livestreamed his experience taking the new route via Facebook. Kong noted that the Saujana–King Centre route is a significant step towards creating a more connected, accessible, and efficient public transport system in Kuching. The new route will serve several residential areas including Jalan Rubber, Jalan Poh Kwong Park, Jalan Stapok, RPR Batu Kawah, and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho. It also provides access to key destinations such as the Sarawak General Hospital, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Timberland Medical Centre, The Spring Shopping Mall, Boulevard Shopping Mall, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4½, and Sunny Hill. 'We are heartened to see an increasing number of people choosing to ride our buses across the existing three SBST Kuching routes. 'With this latest addition and improved accessibility into key residential and commercial areas, we encourage even more members of the public to consider the bus not just as a means to get to work, but also for attending official matters, school runs, or daily errands,' he said. To further enhance service, Kong added that CVLB Sarawak has directed the operator to increase bus frequency to every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours (6am to 7am and 5pm to 6pm) to better serve working adults, students, and the general public.
