KUCHING (June 5): The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has launched the 'Kuching Journey Planner' mobile application for commuters using the Bas.My Kuching service.
According to its chairman Michael Kong, the app, which allows users to track the live location of Bas.My buses, is now available in beta mode on the Android Play Store.
'This app is designed to enhance the commuting experience by allowing users to track real-time locations of buses under the Bas.My Kuching service, plan their journeys more effectively and access updated route and schedule information at their fingertips,' he said in a statement today.
Kong emphasised that this is just the beginning, as the app is still in beta mode.
'We understand that there may still be bugs or areas for improvement, and we welcome and value all feedback from users. Your input will help us fine-tune the application and ensure it meets the needs of our community.'
At present, he said the app is available exclusively on Android devices.
However, he noted that they are actively working to improve it and will roll out a version on the Apple App Store once they are confident it is ready for full release.
Kong encouraged all Bas.My Kuching commuters to try out the 'Kuching Journey Planner' app and provide suggestions and feedback.
'The setting up of our mobile app within three months from the launch of our first route shows our commitment to make public transportation more convenient, reliable and accessible for everyone.
'This is another step forward in the modernisation of the public transport in Sarawak and we will continue in our efforts to uplift the public transportation industry,' added Kong.

Sarawak reaffirms position as SE Asia's clean energy hub at UK conference, eyes global partnerships, says state deputy minister

KUCHING, June 6 — Sarawak has reaffirmed its position as Southeast Asia's clean energy leader, sharing the state's vision for its energy plans at the Energy Export Conference (EEC) 2025 in Aberdeen, United Kingdom (UK). In his keynote address, Sarawak Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni emphasised strong policy commitment, sustained innovation investment and robust regional cooperation as the state's foundation for energy transition. 'Sarawak is proud to be a pioneer in Asean when it comes to clean energy development. Our participation at EEC 2025 reflects our readiness to forge new global partnerships and export low-carbon energy solutions to the world,' he said in a statement issued by his ministry on Thursday night. He said Sarawak's integrated strategy revolves around four strategic hubs – renewable energy, natural gas, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and hydrogen – each designed to foster regional resilience and sustainable growth. 'With over 70 per cent of the electricity already derived from hydropower, Sarawak is on track to further expand its renewable energy capacity by 2030 and 2035,' he said. He said Sarawak solidified its role as the 'Battery of Asean' by actively pursuing regional power exports to West Kalimantan, Brunei, Sabah and soon, Singapore. Furthermore, Sarawak leads Malaysia in natural gas reserves and CCS potential. It is also pioneering hydrogen development with flagship projects and dedicated legislation to attract global investors. Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel said global platforms like EEC play a crucial role in establishing resilient energy ecosystems. 'Our presence here in Aberdeen is a statement of intent. Sarawak is open for business, open for innovation, and ready to lead in clean energy exports,' he said. At the conference, Sarawak Energy Bhd shared its long-term sustainability agenda and cross-border grid integration plans while Sarawak Economic Development Corporation's subsidiary, SEDC Energy, highlighted ongoing collaborations with Japanese and South Korean partners to develop hydrogen and ammonia export capabilities. 'These initiatives underscore Sarawak's commitment to innovation and international partnerships. Supported by comprehensive policies and strategic roadmaps, Sarawak's clean energy initiatives are unlocking new investment opportunities and creating high-value jobs for a sustainable future. 'With international recognition from the World Economic Forum and upcoming events such as International Energy Week 2025 and the Sustainable & Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) 4.0, Sarawak is actively inviting global partners to join its journey toward a sustainable and inclusive energy future,' the statement added. — Bernama

JPJ: Sabah, Sarawak drivers can renew road tax at self-service kiosks from June 6 — if vehicle registered in 2020 or later

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 — Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax) renewals for individual private vehicles can be carried out at Road Transport Department (JPJ) kiosks in Sabah and Sarawak starting tomorrow. JPJ, in a statement today, said the renewal service will be available at 41 kiosks; 21 in Sabah and 20 in Sarawak. This service, however, applies only to private vehicles registered from 2020 onwards. 'For individual private vehicles registered before 2020, owners or their representatives must go to the JPJ counters for renewal,' it said. In addition, renewals can also be done via the MyJPJ app, mySIKAP JPJ portal, JPJ mobile counters, and JPJ strategic partners. Vehicle owners are also advised to ensure their motor insurance coverage is valid and active before renewing their road tax at JPJ kiosks, as the system will automatically verify insurance details during the transaction. 'This initiative is part of JPJ's ongoing efforts to enhance service efficiency and provide greater convenience to the public by digitalising its services. 'Through the use of self-service kiosks, users can carry out road tax renewals independently and quickly without needing to queue at the counter,' the statement said. At the same time, JPJ reiterated its commitment to expanding access to digital services, in line with the government's aspirations for a fully digital public service transformation and more efficient service delivery. — Bernama
