Appleton Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony scheduled for May 26
APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The annual Appleton Memorial Day Parade and 'Moment of Remembrance' Ceremony is all set to go for May 26. The Appleton Memorial Day Parade pays tribute to the brave servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of American rights and freedom. 'Memorial Day is a time for our community to come together in reflection and gratitude,' said Corey Otis, City of Appleton Parade Committee Chairperson. 'Through the parade and ceremony, we honor those who gave their lives in service and reaffirm our commitment to remembering their sacrifice.' Appleton's Rock the Block revives neighborhood with Habitat for Humanity The yearly event draws hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators to Appleton. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day, with the route starting at the corner of College Avenue and Appleton Street. The 'Moment of Remembrance' ceremony takes place immediately following the Parade in Appleton's historic Riverside Cemetery, at the George D. Eggleston, G.A.R. monument in the 700 block of North Owaissa Street. Local 5's Tom Zalaski emcees event honoring volunteers throughout northeast Wisconsin Addison Walt, a 17-year-old junior from Appleton North High School, will be this year's keynote speaker. 74th Appleton Flag Day Parade set to honor both U.S. Marine Corps and Navy for 250th birthday
APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The nation's oldest 'Flag Day' Parade is just a few months and the deadline to apply is less than two weeks from now, with applications required by Tax Day, April 15. Appleton's Flag Day Parade has been around since 1950, and it annually honors a different military branch; however, this year's will be different and extra special. Tru by Hilton celebrates grand opening in Oshkosh 'The theme is 'Honor, Courage, Commitment,' which is the motto of the Marine Corps and Navy,' Appleton Parades Committee Chairperson Corey Otis said. 'Both are celebrating their 250th birthdays this year, so we're going to put them in the spotlight and honor both branches.' The parade annually gets over 50,000 viewers and participants from throughout the country. 'Flag Day is a celebration and a great time to come out with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate everything great about America,' Otis said. Door County residents speak out about proposed development for iconic golf course Otis added that with applications still open, they're looking for more service organizations to volunteer and help celebrate in the iconic parade. APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The City of Appleton Parades Committee is now accepting applications for the 74th Appleton Flag Day Parade and the 2025 Appleton Memorial Day Parade. The 74th Appleton Flag Day Parade, labeled as the biggest and best Flag Day Parade in the country is scheduled for Saturday, June 14. 'The Appleton Flag Day Parade is more than a tradition, it's a powerful reminder of what brings us together as Americans,' said Corey Otis, Chairperson for the City of Appleton Parades Committee. 'When we celebrate the red, white, and blue, we not only salute the strengths of our nation but also the unity of our community.' Appleton Public Library re-opens its doors after several delays over 17 years Every year, the Flag Day Parade honors a branch of the military, but this year, Appleton will spotlight both the United States Marine Corps and Navy, which each celebrate 250 years of service in 2025. The theme of the 74th Appleton Flag Day Parade is 'Honor, Courage, Commitment,' the core values of the United States Marine Corps and Navy. 'The Marines and Navy have defended our freedom since the American Revolution,' said Otis. 'Their service and sacrifice have been vital to our nation's strength, security, and unwavering spirit.' Fox Cities residents have honored 'Old Glory' on the second Saturday in June since 1950, making the Appleton Flag Day Parade the nation's oldest. The celebration annually draws more than 50,000 spectators and participants from throughout Wisconsin and the country to Appleton. Organizations interested in participating in the 74th Appleton Flag Day Parade and/or the 2025 Appleton Memorial Day Parade must complete and submit an official application before April 15, 2025.
