74th Appleton Flag Day Parade set to honor both U.S. Marine Corps and Navy for 250th birthday

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The nation's oldest 'Flag Day' Parade is just a few months and the deadline to apply is less than two weeks from now, with applications required by Tax Day, April 15.
Appleton's Flag Day Parade has been around since 1950, and it annually honors a different military branch; however, this year's will be different and extra special.

'The theme is 'Honor, Courage, Commitment,' which is the motto of the Marine Corps and Navy,' Appleton Parades Committee Chairperson Corey Otis said. 'Both are celebrating their 250th birthdays this year, so we're going to put them in the spotlight and honor both branches.'
The parade annually gets over 50,000 viewers and participants from throughout the country.
'Flag Day is a celebration and a great time to come out with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate everything great about America,' Otis said.

Otis added that with applications still open, they're looking for more service organizations to volunteer and help celebrate in the iconic parade.

(WFRV) – Many people know that hunting is part of Wisconsin's heritage; it's a widely popular activity, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking volunteers to help teach the next generation. The release states that volunteers should expect to teach and certify basic hunting education to students and hunters of all experience levels in practical skills. These opportunities are available statewide. Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs announces closure of Green Bay's Veteran Housing and Recovery Program location The DNR's Hunter Education Program has been offered for nearly 60 years. Since 1967, over 20,000 volunteers have educated hunters across Wisconsin, certifying more than one million individuals. According to the release, the program has significantly decreased the number of hunting safety incidents. The release added that instructor dedication and commitment have been crucial to the program's success, immersing them in a connection with the state's hunting heritage while building up the next generation. There are multiple skills and education classes available that need volunteers to lead, as follows: Basic Hunter Education A firearm safety class is legally required for those seeking to hunt independently. About 4,000 volunteer instructors are needed to teach standard and internationally approved lessons while also administering exams. Volunteers should teach at least one class and attend a recertification workshop every three lessons are beyond basic education, and the DNR, along with partners, offer additional education to teach hunters of all experience levels. Volunteers are sought to coordinate and instruct advanced programs; training is optional but provided upon request. The advanced hunter education programs vary from Outdoor Skills to the Learn to Hunt program. The Learn To Hunt program requires a minimum of four hours of pre-hunting instruction for participants, while educators must have at least five years of experience in the target species. Even though it's still the middle of summer, registration has already opened for the Appleton Area School District. The district encourages families, especially those with students new to AASD, to sign up as soon as possible to facilitate scheduling buses and assigning teachers. We've gotten together some answers about registering for school at the Appleton Area School District through its website. Keep reading to learn more. Enrollment and registration for Appleton schools opens in early July. For returning families, annual online registration through Infinite Campus is required for students entering kindergarten through 12th grade. New families are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible, either online through Infinite Campus or in person at the Appleton Area School District Welcome Center,2701 N. Oneida St., Suite C3, Appleton. If the new student is a sibling of a current AASD student, returning families can also use Infinite Campus to enroll the new student. You can also enroll online for Appleton Community 4K at You'll need demographic information, emergency contact phone numbers, name and phone number for your student's doctor and dentist, medical information, proof of district residency and language information. You can provide proof of residency with a lease agreement, a utility bill from the last 45 days or a home purchase agreement. Fees for middle and high school students range from $40 to $150. Fees for families with middle and high school students are capped at $250. You can pay the fees online.
